      I think that we were expected to "grow up" much faster than today's kids. I can remember being told at 16 to give serious thought to what I wanted to do, go to college or whatever. Always followed by you'll be an adult sooner than you think. Junior and senior year in high school we were constantly told we'd be adults soon and talks about making decisions for the future. After high school you either went on to further schooling or you were expected to get a job. No ifs, ands, or buts about it! If you went to work it was expected that you turn over a portion of your earnings to your parents. It may only have been 10 or 20 percent but you were expected to pay your way. In general boys moved out while lots of girls stayed in the family home until marriage. Nowadays they give prizes for "participation" and kids live at home a whole lot longer. I'm sure a lot of that has to do with the economy and lack of jobs that pay a living wage, however these kids aren't prepared to be grown ups as quickly as we were. We had jobs at 16 and were paying "rent" as long as we were working. We were expected to do school and a job if we wanted pocket money after we turned 16. We were taught "there's no free lunch" most of our lives. If you could get a job babysitting, doing chores, mowing lawns, shoveling snow, etc. before you got your working papers at 16 you did. Most of us wanted to work and have our own money. Kids today have it way too easy. And the music, with exceptions, is pretty awful!
      I could appreciate some of my parents music but today's music I just want to turn it off.

      Well, Norbert, the Vietnam War and the draft was on everyone's mind . It wasn't so lucky for my husband and my brother, and it was downright tragic for many friends and relatives: injuries, PTSD, and some paid the ultimate price. These young men, along with female nurses who enlisted, proudly did their duty and I am forever grateful. At my age, it's best to look at all the positive things of life and keep the precious memories, no matter how joyful, or sorrowful, intact.

    • @norbertsiewert3917
      @norbertsiewert3917 2 роки тому +5

      @@kathryngrove-dewitt1631: Not only were the lives of those who were inducted into military service ruined, but many who were of military age but somehow escaped getting drafted could not get decent credit, buy a house or even a car, or get a decent job. This is because lenders and employers were correctly concerned that young men could be conscripted at any time, and their investment in these people could be destroyed!

      @Jerry I was 8 years old. Those were good old days but HARD too because my VERY YOUNG parent's who were in H.S. (17);when they got pregnant with my Sister & 21 when they had me & & 3 yrs later they had my brother...getting a divorce in 1961. Arw you single or married; I'm a widow. I got married in H.S. in 12 th grade. (NO! 99 pregnant but soooooooo much in love! We got married when my fiancé was home on a 28 day leave from Viet Nam; being gone overseas 10 months upon the Naval Air Craft Carrier the U.S.S. Oriskany CVA-34...HE was 19 & I'd just had my 18 Birthday 1st week of August. We rushed a beautiful Wedding & I managed to get all our Wedding Invitations out in 3 days as a friend who had his own fancy Invitations shop at a local Bowling Ally; so I got ALL 325 Invitations out not thinking anyone woyld RSVP in 3 days [some were out of state & we asked that they'd call to RSVP as a Wedding gift & they did. All came to our Wedding except 11 who mainly were in Montana; where we were headed for our Honeymoon so I could meet then. His parents let us use their camper truck to road trip in; all gas paid; along with fishing gear to go fishing with. We didn't have a real fancy Honeymoon until our 30th! Our Daughter & our Son-in-Law & friends sent us on a 6 day Maui Lahaina; Hawaii trip. We planned on returning in our 40yh ss I'd just had my gall bladder removed as well as a HUGE 🥑 avacado size seed "Gallstone" removed LAPROSCOPIC SO MY STITCHES WERE STILL HEALING WHEN WE GOT THERE. IT WAS VERY HOT! WE WERE JUST TOLS TO PACK FOR THE TROPICS WITH MY BIKINIS. ID LOST SO MUCH WEIGHT & I WAS VERY HEALTHY BUT WAS FATIGUED FROM MY SURGERY & WAS SO NERVOUS AS WE'D NEVER BEEN ON A HONEYMOON LIKE THAT EVER! MY HUSBAND WAS VERY TIRED TOO AS HE WAS A LONG HAUL WEST COAT CALIFORNIA WHERE WE LIVED @ THAT TIME IN SANTA BARBARA; CALIFORNIA WHERE I WAS BORN & RAISED & WHERE MY HUSBAND MOVED TO FROM MONTANA IN JE. I'll be 74 soon and 1960 through 1969 were amazing years! Go back and watch American Graffiti and get a small sample of life in that era.
      The trailer asks "Where were you in 62?" Me? Starting high school and meeting my BFF, may she rest in peace. We were shy girls, but together we were a bit adventurous and bolstered each other's dreams. Because of my friend I became the first girl to be allowed into the Industrial Drawing class. I wasn't trying to prove anything I just like math and drawing. Lol
      Anyway, check out the movie if only cuz Harrison Ford is in it! 😉
