I can't say anything other than this is the best podcast I've ever seen in the whole entire life and I didn't realise how Jamie Lee Curtis is the best person on the planet
I got to meet Jamie Lee Curtis on the set of "True Lies" in 1994. I remember how kind she was and patient with us kids despite the fact she was in the middle of filming. I gave her a small leather and porcelain beaded bracelet I had made. She said her daughter would be jealous and probably try to steal it, :D She's truly an amazing person, and I feel honored to have met her and I'm very glad that she has gotten even stronger.
I'm watching this while under the influence of Weed and wine. I'm a big pot-head/wineo When Jamie started talking about recovery at the beginning. I realized I spent these last 5 years since high school ended. Just messing around and having fun. When the LaBeouf episode dropped I had just lost my grandmother. Was going through an ounce of weed every 2 weeks, for about 6 months. I've slowed down a bit on my drinking / smoking Been wanting to quit, and go to post-secondary schooling. I know the brain fog is going to be a Bit*h. Thanks for uploading this episode and also the LaBeouf episode. It means a lot, that the kid from Transformers, and Lori from Halloween. Have struggles just like me.
You watch interviews with actors so im guessing you like movies. There's a thing about addiction and movie characters. Every hero has a sad story that could justify his villian arc. But he chose to be a hero despite that.
It is good now and then to slow down/go on hiatus. I have been partaking of edibles since 2018 since I lost a family member. I have two gummies left myself and after those are gone, I am going on an indefinite hiatus. The brain fog will not be that bad, and will clear very quickly, 24-48 hours. Been on a 9 month hiatus before and you will be better off for it. You will be good.... 💯
replace "can't" with "unwilling" and "have to" with "get to." damn. those words will resonate with me for all time. thank you both (Jamie and Jon). from a woman struggling with alcoholism, but working towards sobriety.
Just keep working There's a saying about training that goes: "If you aren't motivated to train on a particular day, train without motivation" Easier said than done, but in the end it comes to that
Jon is awestruck and melted. It sets the perfect vibe for the conversation because you get to talk to Jamie Lee fucking Curtis for an hour and a half. What a woman.
The transparency she displays, without shame, is amazing to watch. We all are addicts to something, but whether we acknowledge it or not, is up to us. Podcasts like this make us ask that question to ourselves of 'are you ready to do something about it?'. Thank you for conversations like this and the many you have done before that pose this reflection.
My son and I love Jamie Lee sooo much. And I never knew she struggled with addiction. Before and a little after my kid was born, I was also addicted to Vicodin and Hydrocodone. I've lost many friends since then that I used to get high with. All this to say absolutely YES these topics and talks that you all have is definitely finding someone that needs to hear it. Thank you for this podcast, Jon and Jamie
18:30 this hits heard. My brother died from a heroine overdose in 2009. At the time, we didn’t allow anyone but close family to come to the funeral. I ran into a few of his “friends” at a dunkin in town, they were obviously strung out, and they kept telling me how wonderful my brother was and how much they’re gonna miss him and how sorry they were and I couldn’t help but sit there and feel like… they were complicit. They enabled him. His blood is on their hands.
My best friend passed 4 years ago via oxy OD just after celebrating 6 months sober. The outpour from her drug-affiliated friends made me feel how you felt.
Thank you for loading this Podcast up for free. You got so many great guests and great talks, it is really needed. Jamie Lee Curtis is just proof for it.
Nearing my first decade sober, and I gotta say I already liked Jamie but wow man. Just wow! She's a real one, for sure. Thanks for your story, and you were awesome in Trading Places
4 years ago I decided to stop drinking alcohol all together. It’s so much easier not worrying about how much I’m drinking, should I drive or get a ride, did I say something stupid…… I wish I had stopped years ago. The truth is, not drinking at all is so much easier than trying to mitigate drinking. I don’t even think about it anymore 😊
Re: therapy being too expensive: I just finished an 8 week online video therapy program through Kaiser via Covered California (Obama-care) that was FREE because it was all done online. So there are totally affordable therapy options out there if you're willing to do the work. The main issue is that most people, in recovery or not, don't realize that their mental health is mostly determined by the work they're personally able to do outside of meetings and therapy sessions. Blessings to all.
Great conversation. I got to wake up this am and did not have to use my cane for the 1st time all week. I’m about to get to make chili for dinner w/ groceries my son was willing to get me from the grocery on his lunch break and I get to go to bed alone tonight in my 1 bedroom apt. that my family helps me afford. My first inclination is to ‘use the negative’ when recounting my day because I’m depressed & I hurt, physically & mentally, but the truth of the matter is, if I just look past my first feeling, I am blessed beyond measure. Praise God!🤲🏼
The pain of being erased because of age breaks my heart. Acting has been the most consistiant love in my life. I gave up so much for it. And with that said, I am the best I have ever been. I can only be where my feet are. 34 years in the program, thank god. Thank you for making me feel less alone.
Doesn't get realer than this. I say, Jamie Lee, when you cry, I cry. "Love" is too easily thrown around but I really feel a powerful emotion concerning you. Keep doing what you do! You as well, Jon!
Oh Jamie! I have loved you since being terrified in a movie theater at twelve. Yelling at you to not drop the knife because Michael does not die. Love hearing your truth . Am a four year sober ! Level 1 trauma nurse . Gonna be 60 in a couple weeks. After falling down drunk a couple times and seeing some pretty traumatic injuries to intoxicated women my age. I have no desire to go out that way. Every time I see you in a movie or interview I feel your energy . You always give me a charge. Jon you could not have been more gracious. Thank you for having her on your show. Now fully charged. God Bless Mary
Jamie Lee Curtis has been present in my life since I was a child. Freaky Friday is the reason my mom cut off 12 inches of her hair and still rocks the Jamie Lee Curtis hair to this day. I always knew she had a presence in my life for a reason.
Good for you Jamie Lee! Love your ingenuity re: items that can be monetized for charities. Also love how authentic she is with hard topics for herself and how they affect so many. Working through our childhood traumas and understanding our parents child traumas help us embrace ourselves and move forward. ❤
Jon + Jamie, thank you both for sharing your stories 🙏🏼I had absolutely no idea either one of you struggled with substance abuse before listening to this podcast Watching The 🐻 has been deeply therapeutic for me + now I have an even deeper understanding + appreciation for the beautiful ways in which both of you poured your pain + passion into your performances The 7 Fishes was brave, brutal + brilliant 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Bro chill they are actors lol they're not the only people in existence to have had substance abuse issues if anything they're better off because they have a crap ton of money from playing make pretend to help with their substance abuses 😂 keep in mind any of these people's stories from their good old days before acting was like 0.5% of their life up to that point, Jamie has been in Hollywood most of her life just like her mother and John started pretty early too hearing these people's backstories is like listening to the vp Harris say she used to work at McDonald's for like 5 seconds of her life LOL these people have lived very wealthy and luxurious lifestyles so they're poor me stories are a waste of breath as far as I'm concerned😂
@@atfbproductions7458 ...I don't care who you are or where you come from for ANYONE to OPENLY admit that they have a substance abuse problem + then talk about it, especially, on such a public platform - beyond worthy of respect + admiration. Wowsers Jamie Lee Curtis! Amazing woman, Legendary actress and conversationist. Great interview Jon Bernthal as always! Great guest choice for October!
14:30 i definitely hear her story i have struggled with opiate addiction for 12 years myself. I have been able to work, be a father, husband, maintain a house thr whole lot. But had this dark secret i was always harboring in the dark. And it wasnt to get "high" it was to maintain myself and emotions. Its dangerous nowadays with the fentanyl.
Wonderful interview - powerful and impactful! Thank you for this - Jamie Lee Curtis is an amazing woman. Thank you for being so real and straight from the heart. ❤
Jamie has always seemed such a lovely and beautiful person. I've always got time to listen to what she has to say, and this was a really inspiring and insightful interview.
What an amazing vid. You never truly know what's going on with someone or what they have been through, until they let you in. The title of this channel, if there's any doubt of validation needed, just sit back, what or listen to this and let that sink in. 🙌💪
I’m finally done smoking weed and vape. After 5 years straight of smoking more than 10 times a day. I have never felt better. And I’m off my anti depressants too. 4 years of emdr therapy and becoming pregnancy saved my life
I am absolutely astonished of how dignifiedly profound this podcast is. Jon Bernthal is such a great listener.
@@joshuajohnson6319 I totally agree, he seems great.
How could he not, she wouldn't shut up
