  • In this video I show you how to build a PO Box Bank. I used a 117 year old door. The door is a 1906 Flying Eagle and the bank is made from American Black Walnut. Thanks for watching the video! Please share and subscribe.

Thank you for going into so much detail. I made one of these before but didn't have to refurbish the door. I do have another one that needs the refurbishing that you discussed. i learned a lot from your video. Thanks

Very nice video. Where did you find the brass piece for the coin slot? Also the decal for the P.O. Box number.

You can get both the coin slot and the decals on EBay. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

Dang, I was hoping you would show how to set up the combination part of the door. I have doors but have no idea what the combo is.

      Hey William,
Thanks for the comment. You make a great point, and I'll try to do a video on that next week. Stay tuned.
      Thanks,
      Rick

I have somw if these doors but there are no screw holes to attach the door to the bank. I might have missed this in your vidoe but how did you attach it? I saw you screw it in but did you just drill holes?

You have to pre-drill holes through the brass door frame. Then screw through those holes into the wooden bank. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

That's what I was thinking. Thanks! Iv made a few of these but w different doors and the ones I used had premade holes. I was also thinking of an exterior type clamp that might look interesting or cutting a slot for the tabs to sit in. Will give it a go. Thanks again

I am studying your video because I have some doors coming my way, thanks to your inspiration. I am concerned about the wire brush step. Does it scratch off much detailing?

Yes, it can. You have to be careful with doors that have black painted dials. On those types of doors, I remove the dials first and then use the wire brush. The wire brush will remove any painted areas. As you probably saw in the video after using the wire brush you are left with a completely brass door. I then took and spray painted it black then removed the black with a steel wool pad to give it more of an antiqued look. I appreciate your comment and thanks for watching. Please let me know if you have anymore questions.

Yes, it's a 50/50 Coke and Ammonia solution. Thanks for watching!
