Making a Keepsake Box from a Vintage Post Office Box Door

- These keepsake boxes make use of vintage Post Office box doors from the 1960's I found on eBay. In the past I've also seen them in antique shops. The boxes are about 11.5" x 6.5" x 3". The finish is walnut oil which really brings out the grain but keeps it feeling like wood.

Really appreciate that you show your mistakes and how you overcame them.
These came out absolutely gorgeous. This something I have always wanted to do.I didn't know they had oversized doors like that.
They're a little harder to find but much better for something like this.
Really nice project and enjoy the old with the new. Thanks for posting.
Very nicely done.
Really cool idea. Thanks
I will never ignore-a video from you. Great work here!
Dare I say the fitting towards the end was [inter]stellar! Great looking joints, classy project.

Great video, just ordered the Incra box joint jig.
Always impressed with your work! Big fan of the Interstellar docking shot
Thanks Michael!! It was a stressful part of the build ;)
I dig it.
I’m insulted you said they were pretty old because they were from the 60s . I’m from the 60s and I’m not old yet. Haha 😂 . Nice job they look great.
Very nice boxes 👍! Do like the mix of the old and new, wood and metal 😀
Thank you!! Love your name.

@@parillaworks awesome can't wait
That’s the Interstellar OST towards the end. Didn’t know that UA-cam allowed copyrighted music this way. Great keepsake box btw 😊
That would be perfect for my medine when i travel to pperth from port hedland for cancer treatment. Can you send specs so i can get one madde here. What a beautiful looking keepsake box😛
Thanks Carol. The box itself is about 11.5" x 6.5" x 3". The doors vary in size very slightly door to door. Between these two, one was smaller by about a 1/32" in one direction.
Genial congratulation
Where've you been ese? Great video John!
Thanks Adrian! Been busy with our little one. I've been in the shop here and there with some projects but haven't had the time to film them. I'll be getting more videos made soon though!
👍
Very nice! Did you keep the doors with a working combination lock on them. I did when I made some a long time ago. Just make sure you store the combination somewhere safe.
Thanks Tom! Yup, I have them listed in my notes app. I actually just bought 24 more doors and luckily they came with individual cards that list their combinations.
The ones I got were from the 60’s too, but I had to take them apart to figure out the combination.
Parillaworks, this is no time for caution !
Come on TARS!
Interstellar music? )
Your "original" anniversary? You have more than one?...
It had our anniversary from dating way back in high school as opposed to our wedding anniversary.
I did it too. This is what I used Woodprix designs for
My adventure with the tree began with projects from Woodglut.
