Erich Flyboy - It was cool to see that callsign. I knew right away it was MrAviation. Lol. I've watched a lot of his videos and wondered if I would ever talk to him.
I commented once on this video already, but I just have to comment on Josh's landings. They are f*cking always so smooth. My CFI considers these "kissing the runway".
Thanks for the great videos and inspiration. I'm 44 and 13 hours into my PPL training. It's flights like this that I've spent my live dreaming about and can't wait to share with friends and family.
It’s a pretty cool to fly in the dark to see the town’s beautiful street lights & buildings. I can see my dad’s office when I’m on decent to BIL airport, like when I’m coming back from the state of Minnesota, annually.
This was awesome. Love night flights. Into LAX on a crystal night, the city grids were like a living "Tron" set-up. Didn't think it could get better - then Disney lit up their fireworks. Keep 'em coming Mr. Av!
Great video man... This reminds me of my time flying as a private pilot out of SLC international. lots of cash burned up on the ground. good experience dealing with controllers and commercial aircraft. that was 1998. I don't even play around Class Bravo if i can help it now. time is money brudda!
Nice video! Really miss (night)flying. Last time was January this year, when I made my ppl in Florida :) Now back in Germany, flying is a totally different story....specially at night.
You should add some videos when you have your "Yee-Haaa" moments in turbulence. I was leaving Denver the other day as a front was coming in and we were bounced around like a BB in a box car all the way up to FL-240. It was pretty intense several times and not really expecting it to get that ripe, but FL-390 was nice...like sitting in your living room chair back to Meacham Field. Wishing you safe flying and always smooth air.
Great Video's as always Josh, that's the second time you been recognized by ATC on the radio; you're becoming quite the celeb sir; that's awesome stuff. keep 'em coming i watch everyone you put out. They're are two values that you're video's hold that leads to audience retention. 1) Entertainment: and 2) Educational; ie does it entertain me and can i learn something i didn't know before. And of course capturing Aviation is the most important one for all of us Aviators. Looking forward to the next one Josh..
Been watching these videos like a hawk, will go on a test flight soon. Probably never will get the chance to see anything like this from a cockpit but this is awesome, thanks for the videos ! :)
I haven't watched a video in a bit glad this one caught my attention. I forgot how awesome these videos are. I hope you make it back to Tulsa sometime soon I would love to see 80991 in person.
Just found your videos on YT and really enjoy them. Single engine flying is on my bucket list, but wife has a fear of flying, so likely to stay just a bucket list item. I used to help wash planes when I was in high school and got to take the controls one time on a friend's Mooney during a 60 minute ride. Was instantly hooked, just never got to pursue it, unfortunately...great videos. You appear to be an excellent pilot, best to you!!!
At 16:04 upper left wind screen has 2 shooting lights. One appears to bounce off if ground. At 16:10 just above the dash left side has a shooting light. Any one else see it? What is it?
I flew my three friends in our Da40 around SLC and it was super busy and I told them to keep the cockpit sterile and eventually jut muted them because they were acting very childish.
Idk if I am making this up, but I always get the feeling that the tower is pissed about small aircraft they have to deal with. I hope that's not the case. Josh handles it like a champ, but me on the other hand, I would feel rushed.
Some do get frustrated with a small Cessna coming into a big airport and "getting in their way," but if you stay sharp and on top of things, they won't have a problem with you being there.
MrAviation101 - Sometimes true, but it depends on the controller and their personality. The grumpy ones have a hard time remembering that we are there to provide a service. Regardless if you are IFR or VFR, small aircraft or heavy, we get paid to keep everyone separated. Part of our job is taking into consideration aircraft performance and hoping pilots are aware of the big picture. Having knowledge like Josh shows is a huge help, just like when he knew the tower controller was going to ask for a left turn. Not that we want you to feel rushed, but when you have an aircraft in position on the runway and another aircraft is on a 2 mile final, sometime we need to see things happen quickly in order to keep traffic flowing. I wouldn't have a job if it wasn't for pilots. I appreciate you guys and if you ever have any ATC questions, let me know.
can only 100% confirm this, ATC from germany here - i have colleagues that, if they have a bad day, tend to forget that their job involves a service to all airmen and women, not just the big ones. however, never be intimidated by that. know when you are in the right, and dont let the guy step on your foot. that said, dont start an argument on the frequency cuz your controller is having a shit day and letting everyone know about it. be professional, and as long as it doesnt conflict with safety interests, just do what he tells you to do. cuz dont forget, you dont have the big traffic picture, he does.
Another fun video. I grew up near Corpus, was a flagger for crop dusters at age 13. Lived in Rockport and Moved away to CA in 80. Now retired and flying an Ercoupe in Oregon but enjoy your videos around my home state ! Was interesting to see that SA to San Marcos has almost grown together...just like lost other cities. When I lived in Austin in 1970, Bergstrom was nothing but F-4s about to go to Vietnam Nam ! You are an excellent pilot, and will make a superb CFI. Thanks. Joe
I've been checking your channel out for a while and really like what you see. In fact I am starting one myself as I get my CFI and will be mentioning you in one of my first videos. how do you feel about doing a collaboration video sometime in the future to help me get started?
selfcontrol of the runwaylight is a nice system. i don´t know, if germany has airports, where you can do that. or is it a american system? knows that anybody? your videos are simply the best :)
+Spirit , Hey mate, I apologize, but I'm a little confused on what you are trying to say when you say airport disco? I'm unfamiliar with a lot of terminology, but how would you make an airport disco with a directional antenna?
Ah! That makes much more sense. Perfect explanation thank you. I didn't make the connection to the Pilot Controlled Lighting. I literally thought you meant playing disco music over the radio or such.
Say brother I have a daughter starting South Eastern University in Durant. Is their a possible way we could get her in the air to see if its for her. She just turned 16.. Smart girl just starting college..
Yes, Pilot Activated Lighting. After 15:11 you hear Josh click the transmit button seven times to make sure they're on full intensity. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pilot-controlled_lighting
I'm curious of why you always say "decimal" when reading back frequencies. I've never heard a controller use it over the air and the AIM 4-2-3 has an example of frequency changes and the example states one two three point four. It sounds weird and is more syllables so just curios on why you use it. Cool video.
Did a little more research, AIM 4-2-8 (e) states a decimal point to be said as "point." However ICAO procedures require it to be said "decimal" and FAA will recognize that from aircraft requiring ICAO procedures or military. So it still begs the question why you use it?
What you need to know 1. On 18 September 2014 the London CTR will change from Class A to Class D airspace, matching the other major London airports. 2. You will always need to ask for ATC clearance to enter the control zone. 3. The London CTR is the busiest piece of airspace in the UK. NATS may be able to offer you an ATC traffic service, but it will always be subject to workload and clearance. 4. Access to the airspace immediately around Heathrow Airport - referred to as the ‘Inner Area’ - will be restricted via PPR (Prior Permission Required) by telephone. Unless you really need to fly inside the ‘Inner Area’, you should plan to route around it. 5. The London CTR will be a Transponder Mandatory Zone (TMZ) with Mode S required.
Is there a reason they didn't have you taxi to 12L? It doesn't seem long enough to serve commercial traffic, but would've been great for a 172. They asked you about running up before getting to 12R, so it made me wonder why they wouldn't just put you on the shorter runway.
I was wondering if you were recording when I said hello. Radar contact. Great job!
Jason Messina that's so cool- did you get a little star struck sitting there behind the radar scope? I sure would have!!
omg was that you?
Erich Flyboy - It was cool to see that callsign. I knew right away it was MrAviation. Lol. I've watched a lot of his videos and wondered if I would ever talk to him.
Rogers Julianson - Yes
Jason Messina cool!
filling up with Chinese food and then getting on plane without a toilet...now that's hard core..
great vids!!!!!
yup! totally! that's something I can't even think about! LOL!
must be a crazy feeling being recognized over atc!
I agree, that is so cool. I bet Harrison Ford doesn't even get that.
Angelina Jolie on the other hand... haha
nah harrison ford is to busy flying over the top of other planes
Gets recognized at 10:36
Thx
I really just love it when he gets recognized it is always so cool I feel it should be more often than it is though he is too cool for that
I commented once on this video already, but I just have to comment on Josh's landings. They are f*cking always so smooth. My CFI considers these "kissing the runway".
Way cool! That's not the first time! You've been recognized before. At least once that I remember.!
Nice flight and landing. Great video, great colors!
This was awesome. Love night flights. Into LAX on a crystal night, the city grids were like a living "Tron" set-up. Didn't think it could get better - then Disney lit up their fireworks. Keep 'em coming Mr. Av!
Beautiful sight at night ! - I love San Antonio anyway, but you showed perspective that most never see. Great job Josh !
Great video man... This reminds me of my time flying as a private pilot out of SLC international. lots of cash burned up on the ground. good experience dealing with controllers and commercial aircraft. that was 1998. I don't even play around Class Bravo if i can help it now. time is money brudda!
Nice smooth air. Nice smooth landing. Thanks Josh!
Well done. Can remember that feeling when I first got my ticket 30 years ago (yikes!!)
Nice video! Really miss (night)flying. Last time was January this year, when I made my ppl in Florida :)
Now back in Germany, flying is a totally different story....specially at night.

I remember way back in the 1970s when i started flying out of Beaumont when i high school. you videos reminded me of that. thank you..Ray
Fantastic video, navigating around a busy airport at night and communicating are very challenging activities.
Great Video's as always Josh, that's the second time you been recognized by ATC on the radio; you're becoming quite the celeb sir; that's awesome stuff. keep 'em coming i watch everyone you put out. A night flight is a nice change of pace. Thanks for sharing.
Enjoy your videos! Not getting any younger and hope to one day get my Private Pilot license. Thanks for making these.
Been watching these videos like a hawk, will go on a test flight soon. Probably never will get the chance to see anything like this from a cockpit but this is awesome, thanks for the videos ! :)
Great flight! Thanks for ride and the awesome video!
SAT is one of the very few large airports I've flown into. I was also extremely impressed with the courtesy and professionalism of the controllers.
I haven't watched a video in a bit glad this one caught my attention. I forgot how awesome these videos are. I hope you make it back to Tulsa sometime soon I would love to see 80991 in person.
Wow!
Excellent Landing Lights

Great night time flight video. Thanks!
Great flight and well instructed thanks keep them coming cheers
Josh really like what you do... been watching some of your older videos. Up in KGTU flying again after 27 years gonna get that license.
You make it look so easy
Great video! Definitely we want more night flying! Congrats.
Thanks for another great video Mr Aviation!
Learned to fly my Cessna 140 at Zuehl field, near Seguin. My night flying portion was over to Yoakum & Cuero. San Marcos for the CAF exhibit. Llano,
As allways another great video as the controller said "keep em coming"
breathtaking views!
Thank you for the video night flying
I remember gettin my VFR from clerance delivery freq in KSAT.... Cessna4789P VFR to KAUS heading 030 at 5500 with information T
Happy Halloween ✈️
...for the BBQ. Fredericksburg for the wife to shop. Miss those days...here in the DFW airspace. Head on a swivel!
Great Video ! I bet you were amazed the ATC recognized you and your UA-cam vids ! Kudo's !
Very nice flight.
Thank you for these videos.
Left KSAT arrived KILE 19 minutes later. San Antonio to Killeen in a Comanche 180. Helluva tail wind.
LED landing/taxi lights I see. Looks nice!

John Armstrong tower: 991 you gonna need a run up?? (say no say no say no....) 991 yes.....tower ARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!.......cues mic....roger......
Good call turning into the jetwash...smart smart smart.
Jon Gandy smart indeed. It's good to let the wash dissipate for a few seconds so it's more like a light gust than a blast.
I've been checking your channel out for a while and really like what you see. In fact I am starting one myself as I get my CFI and will be mentioning you in one of my first videos.
how do you feel about doing a collaboration video sometime in the future to help me get started?
This out and back was really good.
Great videos man, keep the cameras rolling
ksat = flash backs of Lackland AFB!!
Fun to ride along. Hopefully not too long since you've flown at night ;)
Excellent video as always! Happy Halloween!
selfcontrol of the runwaylight is a nice system. i don´t know, if germany has airports, where you can do that. or is it a american system? knows that anybody?
your videos are simply the best :)
love this video
It is sure a different look nice video.
where did you get the attachment for your ipad in the cockpit??
That moment you realize the video ends at 17:38
Amazing video!
Green lights are also high speed taxiways.
did you see my offer of some older Sport Aviation magazines circa 1960-1970s chuck maki I was at Lackland in 1956.
What was that thing in the sky at 16:09??? Look to the right of Josh.
very nice video, I love it! thx for share :)
why are the night videos grainy? Beautiful videos....been watching all of them. Thankks a lot for all the efforts :)
15:16 what is he talking about?
nev mind... they were the runway lights
I wonder if I should try making airport disco with a directional antenna at a local, nearly zero-traffic airport ;)
You'll blow the breaker if you try and mess with it. Sensitive systems.
MrAviation101 You'd think they would be a lot more robust, being pilot-controlled. Odd.
+Spirit , Hey mate, I apologize, but I'm a little confused on what you are trying to say when you say airport disco? I'm unfamiliar with a lot of terminology, but how would you make an airport disco with a directional antenna?
By rapidly broadcasting pilot-controlled light signals remotely with a directional antenna(to be far away).
Ah! That makes much more sense. Perfect explanation thank you. I didn't make the connection to the Pilot Controlled Lighting. I literally thought you meant playing disco music over the radio or such.
Was that a firework off the right at around 9:00?
pirate1234567891 it was droplets of moisture climbing up the windscreen
Geesh Josh, you're killin" me! Where did y'all chow down? What's the name? Love your vids !
"smells expensive" I like this guy..
nothing like the smell of jet fuel on an aircraft carrier. CVN-71.
aviation101 when do you post videos on either channel of yours?
have you ever flown internationally , I mean , how long does the Cessna travels , like how many miles before you have to refuel..
You said that one can tell how much there is runway left by the color of the lights?
The runway edge lights turn into red as you near the end of the runway
yes roughly
Fun
Nice video! Why did you have to contact clearance if you are flying VFR?
Do you have a to pay a landing fee at San Antonio?
Say brother I have a daughter starting South Eastern University in Durant. Is their a possible way we could get her in the air to see if its for her. She just turned 16.. Smart girl just starting college..
Mr. aviation would you go iPad Pro 9.7 or iPad mini 4?
Do you ever fly into sugarland tx?
How often does that happen? must be really cool
Can someone explain to me how the runway lights automatically lit up when they landed? Is it something with the radio?
Yes! It's called Pilot-Controlled Lighting. Read all about it: www.aopa.org/asf/publications/inst_reports2.cfm?article=135
Yes, Pilot Activated Lighting. After 15:11 you hear Josh click the transmit button seven times to make sure they're on full intensity. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pilot-controlled_lighting
How does the 172 compare to 152 on a flight like that? Great camera views!
Try Cadillac vs a Yugo.
I'm curious of why you always say "decimal" when reading back frequencies. Wherever they are going, i could drive halfway there before they took off
Nice landing! Was it the left wheel first?
You can't fly into Heathrow it's just not allowed. Light aircraft can't even enter its airspace😭
That's obvious. It's Class A airspace. unless your Skyhawk can approach at 170KTS land at 140KTS and vacate in 20 seconds.
Nathan Gray It's actually class D now but you're right, you'd never get permission to land a 172 there!
Nathan Gray Class A? You sure? 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
What you need to know
1. On 18 September 2014 the London CTR will change from Class A to Class D airspace, matching the other major London airports.
2. You will always need to ask for ATC clearance to enter the control zone.

5. The London CTR will be a Transponder Mandatory Zone (TMZ) with Mode S required.
Nathan Gray Class A airspace isn't anything. It's everything above 18,000 ft....
Is there a reason they didn't have you taxi to 12L? It doesn't seem long enough to serve commercial traffic, but would've been great for a 172. They asked you about running up before getting to 12R, so it made me wonder why they wouldn't just put you on the shorter runway.
Not sure, I think it was just a short and more straight shot taxi.
Clorix - 12L is more complicated to get there from Millionaire. He would've had to cross 2 active runways vs none.
What is that flashing green light below your gps?
lucky friends
Hello Sir @mraviation101 ! Quick question, what iPad mount kit do you use? Thanks
He gets recognized at 10:39
That moment when the video time is 1738
hello, when i'm older i want to be a pilot. Right now i am 12 years old. What flight school and collage would you recommend for me to go to.
Thanks
First officer Chris im 12 and now im taking lessons
Hot Shots wow. I'm still looking for a good flight school. There is one that is 15 minutes away from me but is 3 stars. I might just try that out
How do you turn the runway lights on :OO, I've never been taught to do that
7 quick radio tranmission blips to activate them. You can hear Josh adjusting the runway lights intensity just after 15:10. I believe.
With which frequency?
CTAF, or if not it'll say on the AFIS
+Tom Cummin im reminded of the moment in movie "airplane" when ATC guy unplugs the runway lights then plugs back in saying just kidding lol
JCAviation click your mike x5 for medium x7 for high intensity
Awsome
I have a plane parked at KAQO. Hit me up next time you are up for Cooper's BBQ.
37 Alpha will do!! What kind of plane??
MrAviation101 PA-28-236
MrAviation101 I would like to hear your thoughts on camera setup in my plane. I've shot a few videos but currently only have one camera angle.
Mr. Aviation!! I go to school at Hallmark university right there next to Million air!!
What a small world!!
I fly a Cessna 172N and even with only two people, I only get about 600 FPM. How do you get 800FPM, Josh?
He explained in another vid that he has a "climb prop" I think.
Oh, OK. That makes sense. Thanks, mate!
Ha where'd y'all eat?
I got to know which tablet are you using and with what mount? I'm trying to decide if I should get an iPad or iPad mini.
Thanks!
Raz Matus That's a mini with a RAM yoke mount, I run the same setup.
Anyone know what app he uses? or have any recommendations?
