Having lived about two minutes north of the Addison airport, I want to thank you for all that you did in this flight. I know many of the streets and features that are in this video. It’s very personal. It surprised me about coming in over Love. If I ever had to fly via a small plane into Addison, I pray that you are the pilot.
I would not care WHAT # my comment was as long as I get to see your videos. 😆 You sir quite possibly have the best pilot videos on UA-cam. I am so glad you let your audience hear your intercom & ATC communications. You keep us, or THIS wannabe pilot, motivated towards becoming so.
I got my PPL there in 1987. It was busy back then. Flew similar night flights and it is stunning. Nice smooth air at night. In the afternoon in the summer it's not even fun with all the turbulence. Tried flying early morning or night but when scheduling with instructor you're going to fly next available appointment time. Thanks for the ride along.
Nice video. Back in 84 when I got my private, I flew from Minneapolis to Atlanta to visit a friend that had moved down for work. About9 hours each way and was a blast. No GPS or fancy navigation back then. Flew part of the way at night and the larger cities confirmed your route. Flying single engine at night especially, I like to stay higher and know close by airports in case I have an engine issue. Enjoy your videos. Keep up the great work.
Josh, I love the airspace transition videos with all of the comms. The nighttime flight also reveals the need to effective CRM and multitasking. And you pull it all off while narrating great information. Good job once again. I'll get back down yonder one of these days to do it again with you.
VERY helpful man!! Watching all your videos from start to finish. Years ago (1986) I took flying lessons out of Addison when there was a LOT less traffic there then..
Helicopter leaving Fort Hood In IFR conditions a few years ago ran into a tower guy wire. All on board perished. Totally respect staying well clear altitude and distance.
Enjoy watching and appreciate all the time you put into filming and editing these video bytes. I find them very informative and they make for enjoyable watching several times over. Look forward to the next posting.
I have made this flight many times - those cedar hill towers are crazy - YOU are gonna MAKE me get my BFR!! I MUST get current so I can do this again , my HOME field KADS,!!
Awesome night video Josh!!! I remember seeing Addison from the air on late, late evening approach into Love Field. I rode several times with our pilots from KLIT to Love back in the 80's when I worked for Sunbelt Courier out of Little Rock before moving back home to KAWG in 1990. Mark in KAWG Iowa.
Flew out of and into Addison for the first time last November. Busy as heck airport during the day. Sat for 20 minutes waiting for landing traffic. Crazy busy around there during the day.
Nice! My employers' head office is in Plano and I've flown a 172 out of Addison to see what it was like. During the day, stayed clear of the Bravo. You have to start somewhere... :-)
I have worked on towers. Some of the wires are a half a mile out at the ground depending on how tall they are. 1500 foot tower wires are well over a quart a mile out at the ground. It is good to give them a lot of room for safety!
Holy crap! I was amazed that you turned on the runway lights remotely. I just Googled it and found out what Pilot-controlled lighting is. That's incredibly handy.
great video, as always... I was taught (1) who you are (includes what you are, as 'skyhawk' defines C172), (2) where you are, then (3) your intentions.
Well Done! I love watching your development from an ardent student at Above & Beyond Aviation to your ebullient "1st Solo" to your authoritative, yet happy adventures with father, fiancé & flying friends as you hone your skills as a pilot & filmmaker & feed your boundless curiosity! Let's just say, I could be your grandmother, and largely from watching Mr. Aviation 101, I began lessons at Above & Beyond a few months ago. I love it, however, it must be said that I am a bit of a late bloomer in the skills of Aviation. About 20 hrs of instruction & don't quite have the chops & confidence of the 1st Solo. (Getting pretty good GoProHeroMission5 footage on 4 cameras & great audio (thanks to your tutorial on the Y splitter, etc. (RTF @ UT in late 70's--if we needed now what was needed then, I believe weights & balances would have scrubbed "The Learning Flights" on film & left it to the dryness (but importance!) of the required reading tomes on FLYING! Anyway, Mr. Josh--I'm a fan; love your work: both as a pilot and as a filmmaker. Fly Safe, Keep up the Good Work. 'Night, Sir. Liz Welch Tirrell
You videos are extremely educational. They inspire me to fly more, so thank you for taking the time making them. I bet your having the time of your life.
from Rio de janeiro - The quality of your videos is very good, thank you very much for dedicating a bit of your time and experience, is being very useful in my training.
Great videos. Makes me feel like I'm flying the plane. Only once did I fly a Skyhawk, and only as a student...flew next to the World Trade Center in 2001, four months before.
Great video! The initial call to app is: Who are you talking to, who you are, where you are and what you want to do. App, this is tail number a C172, Flight level or distance and altitude, inbound for name of airport.
another great video. Very informative. Thanks for the reassurance that IM noy to old to learn to fly. LOL Wish I was closer to you I like your style of teaching and would love to have you as my instructor. Hope school is going well good to see another one of your videos. Keep them coming when you have time.
I once spent 30 minutes on the ground waiting for landing traffic. I told my instructor never I will never go there again on a training flight! 182 @ $210/hr NO WAY!
You're right of course. Cameras don't convey the twinkliness and glow of urban lighting from above. I'd have never found Addison amongst that - I'd have been distracted by the pretty lights :-)
Flying here in SoCal you can't even escape trying to fly without having to constantly fly through different airspaces and traffic, can't even enjoy a smooth quiet day in the skies.
Reminds me of that great Flight Sim FLY! I remember Addison was on the default list of arrivals . Being from the UK I had never heard of Addison but thanks to FLY I got interested in the TEXAS area of your HUGE country. I really enjoyed this. Thank you. FLY! even had those radio towers! Unreal. Never got FLY 2! to work though which was a bummer. Microsoft 98/2k/2002 FS killed off FLY! (and almost all other Civil Sims) so further development was pointless. Shame. But I liked MSFS so moved on over.
if ever you transit through spinks FWS or meacham FTW in fort Worth and have time, shoot me a message and I will see if I can take you for food. love watching!
Great flight Josh . Did you turn the runway lights on from your radio or were they on already all night ? When did you start wearing glasses flying at night ?
Another great video, clearly narrated and chock full o' great tips! One question: is there a reason you didn't disclose how to turn the Rwy lights on by keying (it's in the FARs, as I'm sure you know)?
mikerossscuba pilot controlled lighting instructions are documented in the chart supplement (formerly airport facility directory). Normally 7 clicks for high, 5 for medium, 3 for low.
Great vid. If one has the ipad w/ cellular for foreflite, does one need the stratus for gps? I ask because I've heard mixed reviews on the gps signal on the ipad with cellular. Thank u.
txrangerkidd222 Go for it. Your instructor will handle the radio work until you feel comfortable doing it, and it's good experience. I learned out if Oakland International; Bay area flying is some of the busiest on the West coast.
I learned out of KADS and it was a very good experience. I'm comfortable with any area I fly into because of dealing with air traffic control and instrument flight communication is a lot easier since you're use to talking to controllers. Monarch is a good flight school but it's really which CFI you 'mesh' with. Good luck!
are you still flying in the Bay area? closest flight school for me is KSTS. I wanted to learn but I got a very deep pain in my tummy and very bad feeling about it. Maybe it was my lack of confidence but I dont think I will do it now. :) but I enjoy watching these videos
I'm up in Oregon now; haven't been in the cockpit for nigh on nineteen years, but hoping to get back to it soon. Belly pain physical, or psychosomatic?

I'm flying my first trip into Addison tomorrow, and this video helped familiarize me with the situation a lot! Thank you very much.
Nice video. Back in 84 when I got my private, I flew from Minneapolis to Atlanta to visit a friend that had moved down for work. About9 hours each way and was a blast. No GPS or fancy navigation back then. Flew part of the way at night and the larger cities confirmed your route. raykrv6a I love flying in Minnesota. Oh wait that is the only place I fly.
Bennett Ashton ok?
Great video. It's been almost 40 years since I landed at Addison. I really enjoyed that, thanks for sharing!
Enjoyable, educational video, Josh. Flying anywhere on a clear night is one of the aviator's life's simple pleasures. Thanks.
I am addicted to your videos. You do such a great job flying and producing the videos. I learn so much from you about the 172 and flying in general.
Josh, I love the airspace transition videos with all of the comms. The nighttime flight also reveals the need to effective CRM and multitasking. And you pull it all off while narrating great information. Good job once again. I'll get back down yonder one of these days to do it again with you.
15:33 it´s simply unbelievable beautiful. The lights mirroring in the wing
A big thumbs up from London - if only we were allowed to transit that airspace in a 172! Great video.. thanks.
VERY helpful man!! Watching all your videos from start to finish. Years ago (1986) I took flying lessons out of Addison when there was a LOT less traffic there then..
Hearing reports of idiots shining lasers at aircraft makes me sad :( Another super video Josh.

Josh butters the bread on that landing... wow.
It is scaring flying at night over DFW in a single engine. Nice video.
AWESOME DITTO BEST ONE YET

Beautiful landing Josh
I think 9 folks have absolutely no fucking idea...another quality video Josh, keep 'em coming.
Josh, you are going to make a fantastic CFI. I really enjoy your videos.
Another great video as usual! Really enjoy the multiple camera angles and informative commentary. These night videos are awesome as well!
OMG, with those landings your tires will last 20 years! :)
Wonderful! Really do enjoy your always beautiful inspiring videos! Happy landings Capt!
Nice!

Nice job Josh into ADS!
Keep up the good work Josh!
Love night flying, beautiful
Holy crap! I was amazed that you turned on the runway lights remotely. I just Googled it and found out what Pilot-controlled lighting is. That's incredibly handy.
👋 from England love these videos and what a great way to see the 🇺🇸

Next time you come to north Texas fly out to KGVT majors field. I keep my plane there. Really nice airport. Lots of cool military traffic too

I love this video
I really enjoy your videos. I think you are a natural pilot. Are you a professional commercial pilot? Good information that you provide. Thanks again.
Great flight Josh . Did you turn the runway lights on from your radio or were they on already all night ? When did you start wearing glasses flying at night ?
Nice one! What are your camera settings for the GoPros to record that somewhat crisp footage at night?
nice man, are u ever going to fly for a commercial airline?
Did you guys upgrade the avionics in 991?
what happened to your flight school?
Great video what airports do you recommend for the southern part of Dallas as my daughter lives close to DFW?
Superb😁
Great video! Are you going to Sun N Fun by any chance Josh?
great vid
I like your very nice video so much!!
And, I can listen "US ATC" in Tokyo!!b^^d!!
Also, You said "Gear down!!"
It is very nice call, I think!!b^^d!!
Another great video, clearly narrated and chock full o' great tips! One question: is there a reason you didn't disclose how to turn the Rwy lights on by keying (it's in the FARs, as I'm sure you know)?

Where is Addison airport? Near Dallas, TX?
12:48 usually the same frequency #
Awesome night flying. How come no company this time?
I bet because he didn't get back home and in bed till around 1 am...lol
I was thinking of starting flight training at KADS but being under the bravo is a little daunting
