Honestly this reminds me of how the US treated states like the breakaway Katanga province in Congo, Rhodesia and South Africa. None of these countries were perfect. Katanga was in an unstable region seceding in response to the Congo's chaos. Rhodesia was a white-minority state over a black-majority population. South Africa had the actual apartheid, they were the originators of that term.
However, they were obviously developing in a social conscious on their own, and all the US did in these three cases was meddle, sanction, and throw them under the bus, pressuring the three states to adopt whoever they preferred. In Katanga's case they were brought back into the Congo, where General Mobutu promptly ruled the whole place as a fief for many decades. Rhodesia became Zimbabwe, run by Mugabe who murdered more people than the supposedly 'ethnonationalist' Ian Smith ever did ranging in the twenty thousand Ndebele massacres. South Africa is now a state intent on murdering its own minorities and is plagued by corruption and crime.
American policy is often criticized for being too interventionist against leftist states or Arab countries, but I think there's also been a terrible trend of ditching countries quite similar in many ways to themselves, refusing to moderate their social change over time and instead pursuing a revolutionary agenda almost Marxist in a way.

Ehhh...there are plenty of int'l influences on the US democratic process (think Turkey, Russia and, yes, Israel) and US Senators are more focused on events aboard than their counterparts in the lower chamber. Schumer is probably also concerned about his own reelection with the uptick pro-Hamas protests in NYC.
Agreed Israel should finish the job but they lost the first battle which was fought in the information sphere. I feel there was coordination and perhaps advanced knowledge of 10/7 with western based propagandists and Hamas - this deserves further scrutiny. This is evidenced with cease fire calls before there were boots in Gaza and the calvalcade of Hamas apologists had their talking points neatly prepared for UA-cam as the Israel was still fighting Hamas within it's own borders.
All arab countries are waiting to see what will be Hamas fate, if it will survive Israel, you can bet they will retreat for any peace agreement past present or future, it doesn't mind any signed contract, and look for Iran alliance, and if Hamas will be defeated as they hope without saying it , that will enable them to get closer to Israel and build another Middle East as they so yearn for.
