Soviet Union had at least 10 times bigger Muslim majority territory than Afganistan & at least 5 times bigger Muslim population as well. My limited experience of talking with a few Muslims about Islam is corroborated by countless news reports of the way they act. Trying to reason with them is hopeless if the subject is their religion. They want to sell it to you. They want you to fully agree with them, and if you don't, you are to shut up. In a debate or just a casual discussion that starts out seemingly "friendly" (although their "friendliness" is deceitful), if you just try to politely explain why you don't agree with them, they may start to lose their small amount of patience with a lowly "kaffir" who actually dares to talk back to a Muslim. If you persist in trying to make your point, their anger may escalate. They may interrupt, shout you down, and claim you are "insulting my prophet (or religion)" and try to provoke you into a shouting match. In an Islamic country, such a conversation could suddenly even get you arrested for "blasphemy". They fully intend to install sharia law on our city streets wherever their numbers are big enough.
