Ah ah ah, what memories! I had a GS850L the custon version, slightly modified, 7cm extension for the fork, all the chrome casings and a black gold glitter paint. Strong engine, very reliable and indestructible with good maintenance. What happiness! I can't wait to see the end. Good job!
Lol this is what I want to do with my 82 gs850. I think I want to do red on the frame, carbs and half moon covers tho. None-the-less, it's looking beautiful
Looks great so far, thats quality work! I'm getting started on a 80' gs1000g. I also bought a tuffside seat, similar to yours but with the diamond stitching. I'll be following your build closely! I'm anxious to see how it turns out. I plan to post some videos of my build soon, not sure if I'll do 1 video or break into a few different videos
I had one of these in the late 80’s/early 90’s. Way too big for the skinny kid I was then. Damned thing had a buttload of power, I can only imagine what it would have been like lightened up.
Yea man, life has been crazy. Getting ready to move to a new house next month so it’s been tough getting work done on the bike. Happy to be back in the garage for the time being!
It has held up great. Once the engine goes through a few heat cycles it really bakes on there. Also gas does not affect the finish at all. I once did an engine with VHT and the first bit of gas stripped the paint right off.
@@BayCityRestorations - fantastic - can’t wait! I’m in the middle of a brat conversion of my own GS850 and your bike is providing a great deal of inspiration.
I use a syringe and pump fluid up both brakes into the master and then do the bleeding process from there. This is usually the easiest way I’ve found to do it.
I'm about 3 weeks into an 81 GS 850 Build. I wish you were NOT 2200 Miles away. id love to have that engine rebuild done!!! dang.. I'm out looking for a solid shop!
@@BayCityRestorations just so I'm in the know, what would you have charged a client for just the engine clean up and rebuild? just want too know what im getting into.
It looked like the previous owner must have replaced those rubber mounts at some point. They were still very pliable and in great shape. After I cleaned them up they practically looked brand new.
I watch your vids. Seen a couple of your bikes online (bit too much for me. how about a charitable part?) always impressed w/the craftsmenship & time you put in, especially the editing & vid work. Personally I'd like to see a different mod now. That & too many copycat BAD Cafe racer/chopped rear frame bikes FS now. Own a mint low mile barn queen CBX I'd never mod & a 38 Indian that just got restored + 3 other random bikes. Frame mod? Low rider/Bonneville type bike? I'd love to see a Bonneville speedster conversion. What impresses me is that you don't go the HI $ method of conversion' yet come out w/show quality work. Puris5s scoff @ using aerosol paint yet you turn out perfect finish bikes. I liked this bike vid as no seat got chopped + you didn't buy another bmw r/75 before I could. (yeah I'm mildly local RN) Love those bricks! Keep up the great vids no matter what style you choose👍👍👍
I think It'd be kinda cool to build a carburetor air box out of clear polycarbonate. I'm wondering how close of shape it'd have to be to OEM to flow properly? I know they make glue specifically for polycarbonate & polycarbonate is the super tough plastic they make bullet proof glass out of.
@@BayCityRestorations The black stock box looks fine but I think a tinted opaque air box would look cool. I wonder how much someone would charge you to make an opaque 3D printed air box? Just throwing some ideas out there . I like the way pod filters look but only if the bike runs good with them. Wanna get some pods & dynojet kit for my 85 Yamaha JX700 but told by many it'll never run as good, compared to stock air box. Others say it'll be faster off the line and/or top speed but sputter in spots throughout mid range. If I knew it wouldn't be terribly bad in mid range/only slight sputter in a couple spots, I might still get some pods. Just hate to spend $200 only to switch back to the stock air box. Also heard side winds on a windy day will cause issues.
Anyone else have one of these with a drivability problem..mines a 1980 Gs 850..different style carbe, once you get up near 2,000 rpms it cuts out,,haven't been out in the unheated garage all winter to mess with it..any suggestions,,??

Just picked up an 81' gs850 myself, and you've done everything I've wanted to do so far. Looks awesome!
Awesome man! I have not seen very many GS850’s that get customized. They are really solid bikes though 💪🏻
I had an 81 years back, always been one of my favorites, always fast and reliable.

Awesome man! I’ve had to take a break on this bike because I just moved but I hope to get it finished soon!
I just picked up a gs550 for $200 in pretty good shape let the project begin!
Sir Y Have U Not uploaded any Videos since last 8 - 9 months ?? Are U Okkk ??
Appreciate you checking in man! I moved to a new place this year and life has just been very busy. Hope to get back on this bike very soon!

Excited to see the final product 💯
Motor clasic yang keren. Bertenaga dan gahar di jalan. I like it mkdifikasi dan renovasi.
Perfect work once again buddy, this will be another beauty!!
Thanks brother!
I'm still waiting for the next episode
Bro this is so cool! Im looking to get myself one of these next week. You're giving me some ideas...
Not many people modify 850’s for some reason. They make a great base for a build!
Can’t wait to see the full timeplase build.
any update on this build? was really looking forward to seeing how the GS850 would turn out like.
It’s back together and running! Waiting to do the final paint work so I can put together the full build video for it.
very nice work so far folks - looking forward to seeing this finished. I'm a tuffside fan too - good choice.
Appreciate it! Tuffside makes a good seat!
Outstanding sir

Very nice,greetings from Greece!
Thank you!
Great video!
Thank you!
Amazing. Hoping to do the same
Why would you leave the carburetor filter box instead of installing K&N cone filter, looks so much better, nice work anyway
Nice job mate...👍👍
Are you going to do any more videos on it soon? Love the build so far great work!
The bike is finished! Video should be live next week 😁

Awesome man! I will check it out! I’m moving at the moment so progress on the bike has been slow but I hope to get it finished up in a few months.

Sehr saubere Arbeit 👍
Nice paint job I have to do the same 😁
Appreciate it!
Bravo, quel travail soigné !!!
Супер!!! Жду продолжения!!
Good job 👍

@@BayCityRestorations Congrats with the new house bro.
I appreciate it! Was not easy buying in the current market.
Are the casings aluminum?
How has that rust oleum engine paint worked out? I’m thinking of using the same thing but I want to make sure it holds up
It has held up great. Once the engine goes through a few heat cycles it really bakes on there. Also gas does not affect the finish at all. I once did an engine with VHT and the first bit of gas stripped the paint right off.
Awesome, that’s good to hear!
would love to see this bike finished…
The bike is 90% complete. Need to finish final paint work and then assemble everything so I can make the final video edit!

I don't know if you have yet bleeded the brakes, but if yes, did you bleed one caliber first and then the other?

@@BayCityRestorations just so I'm in the know, what would you have charged a client for just the engine clean up and rebuild? just want too know what im getting into.
This job would have been around $1200. If you need to dive further into your internals for any issues than it will probably run you a bit more.
@@kylesgeller what's wrong with your bike, why do you want to rebuild the engine,...
Did u have to get new carb mount rubber stubs? The cleaning up of carbs were something else. They look like new
It looked like the previous owner must have replaced those rubber mounts at some point. They were still very pliable and in great shape. After I cleaned them up they practically looked brand new.
@@BayCityRestorations Is Trevor the same Trevor who used to have a shop called Shade Tree Mechanic in central Illinois?
I don't believe so. He has always worked out of his house. I don't think he ever owned an actual shop.
Do you have any issues with overheating after the paint and enamel?
No issues

I’ve been trying to think about what to do with it. I don’t want to do pod filters which is why I freshened up the original box.
