This is very accurate with my own test!! It is pretty clear to me that most of the people who complain that it is losing 50% in 24 hours while it’s off, are not actually turning it off properly by holding the power button and waiting 5 seconds for the chime. They are just pressing the button briefly putting it into standby. And it is these same people that will say that it randomly switches itself on, without realising that when it is in stand by mode it will turn on as soon as you open the Sonos app. However I do still feel that the few percent per day loss of battery is still a fair bit to lose while fully powered down.
We love our moves completely. We take our two moves outdoors everyday during the summer. We get alittle over 10 continuous hours of play. Can't wait for the nice weather. Soon!
This was helpful. I found a major culprit of my drain problem to be the result of switching to sleep mode instead of fully powering off. A short press of the power button switches to sleep, while a full 5+second hold is required to turn it off.
I'd suspect the drain while 'off' is because it is a soft on/off switch so there is always some power usage waiting for a press of the button. If it had a proper off switch it could get down to 0 usage while really off. Still - 5%/day is a lot for monitoring the power button! Seems like they could optimise that for a better result.
Thank you very much for this video! I enjoy my Sonos Move for almost 1,5 years now. Sometimes the battery drains a bit more when not completely shut off, but I don’t think that is a big issue!
Great review, thanks! I recently purchased & love the Move!! The sound is amazing. I'm not loving the battery drain when powered off. I lost 20% with the unit completely off within 10 hours of no use. I use mine inside and outside of the house and will keep it. Sonos should figure out how to fix this issue.
I now have the Sonos move for over a year, I also have a smaller device, the bose Soundlink revolve. I got the move to get a bigger speaker with better audio quality. However, I find myself not using the move despite its better audio quality. When I want to use it after a few days it’s often the case that the Batterie is gone, thus I just use the bose as this thing keeps running for ages without any issues. I just wanna turn it on and listen to music rather than getting the charger and load it up. BTW getting a second charger isn’t really a good recommendation as this only supports Sonos for not addressing the issue properly.
Here’s an issue: with typical use, someone will leave the speaker on the base in standby mode. If the battery drains overtime, the base will continue to charge the speaker repeatedly. Wouldn’t each of those mini charging cycles reduce the 900 charge battery life thereby reducing the battery life to 2 years or less? Wouldn’t it be better to totally power the speaker off and recharge it once every 10 days, effectively extending the life to 9000 days (or 900 charges)?
One issue I am having is complete battery drain in less than 18 hours while not playing anything and off the charger. My move is set to utilize Alexa, and I am wondering if this Alexa factor is what is causing the drain. Would love to see you all test this permutation as well
The Roam appears to have the same issue. I am going to do some tests, but it seems like the Roam has to go back. I want a travel speaker. It must be able to hold a charge for more than a couple of days.
I short pressed it off last night at 10pm with 97% battery. It fell off my network and was not accessible by WiFi or Bluetooth. At 8pm today I checked and it was still not on the Sonos network. I had to press the power button to activate it. It appeared back on my network with 40% battery....that seems high for a standby that I can't connect or play to without pressing the power button! It may as well power off completely at every touch if you need to turn it on to come out of standby. Also, I tried a 35w usb c power delivery plug that powers a Dell and Lenovo fine....Sonos move does not charge, but does charge on the base slowly........the sound is also very much mediocre and quite compressed and muddy. Dud unit????
Ugh. If I knew this I'd at least have put it on the base the day before. Mainly use this for get togethers at the house and it was quite the shock to turn this on and see 0 percent. Luckily it charges decently enough but jesus you'd think it wouldn't drain so fast being off.
Hi there, if you watch our B&O Beosound Stage review on our UA-cam channel, we do a brief comparison with the Sonos Arc which I hope you find useful. Thanks for watching!
Hi Sim, that would be because the Move will appear as available to use in the app as soon as you start using other Sonos speakers in your system. Currently you cannot turn this feature off, so if you would not like it to automatically wake up, you can turn off the Move completely by holding the button on the back until you hear the power off chime (usually 7 seconds). Hope that helps!
Absolutely WICKED speaker, seriously amazing. Does drain a bit, and the need for a special charger is a little annoying, but hey. It’s 110 DB. The price you pay, huh?

I was having issues until I realised to fully turn it off you do need to hold the off button down for 5 seconds and now it’s not an issue.

I agree, sobos should fix this issue of the battery draining when completely offf

Thank you for this video, it helped. I didn’t understand why the move was at 0% after not using it for days…

900 is charge cycles, not 900 charging times. Charging from 0% to 100% is ONE cycle.
Great review. I learned I need to turn the Sonus Move completely off when off the charger. Big difference for me.

Great info. Move 2 is still the same.
Now they need to allow the Move to be a rear surround speaker!

I had the same exact issue, have you found out what the problem was exactly?
5% / DAY is pretty bad. What the heck are they leaving on in the speaker.
How do you get it out of standby mode

Good afternoon! Are you planning to do a Sonos ARC vs B&O comparison?
Hi there, if you watch our B&O Beosound Stage review on our UA-cam channel, we do a brief comparison with the Sonos Arc which I hope you find useful. Thanks for watching!
They should of made sonos move sonos hype and hype wired sonos speaker bigger than sonos one but still great and better to replace the sonos play 3
How come mine is always on even I’m not using it… for example I’ve switch it off after 5 or 20 minutes it switches on… why??)

Because it's listening to you intentionally
Well how are we going to move it around if it’s dead all the time
Mine is dead after 6 hours of full blast music.
No wonder they came out with an actual portable speaker on the go sonos roam

It's a fact this is the worst $400 piece of crap I've ever bought. My don't even last a playlist of 35 songs. I hate this shit speaker
