Thank you Dave, really appreciate your thoroughness on this repair. Watching you and your son working together brought back fond memories I had with my dad.
Dave - thanks so much for this video. I had an F96 error and thought it best to call a repair company. The repairman ordered a new fan, but no new sensor. When we got the F96 error again he told me I need to buy a whole new double oven and that F96 was telling me that it’s a control board issue. I didn’t believe that and kept pointing to posts that said it’s a sensor and fan issue. Anyway, I ordered the sensor now and am planning to follow your instructions (with some help). Thanks again for posting this!!
You are most welcome! I'm always glad to hear this helped someone!! Especially someone who has *paid* a tech to *know how* to fix it *correctly*. Awesome!!❤️
Thanks for the video!! In 2015 I bought a new house that came with GE profile oven that broke within a year, which was fixed under warranty. I moved to a new home in 2017 that came with GE profile oven (tried to get the builder to change but no luck). After 3 years I got this F96 code. Thanks to Dave, I will be doing DYI. I will never buy GE appliance.
@@DIYDaveOK Completed success. Your video help me save aggravation and time, thanks! I didn't take the door off and it wasn't an issue. Overall very easy job, took less than an hour. Without Dave's video, it could have been a few hour job. Thanks again!
@@kyj730 I am so glad it worked so well for you!! And it's great info that you didn't have to take off the doors. This just makes my day - that's why I do these videos, and if I helped one person, its worth it!!! Thanks so much for your update and for watching!!
Excellent video. Thank you. This the most detailed video describing/showing the repair for F96 error. Our oven was 5 years old and we only use 2-3 a month. Apparently, all the oily fumes are sucked up by the fan and cause it to fail. I know there is a lower fan too. I wonder how long before that one fails? Maybe I should have just replaced both fans while I had the oven pulled out.
Hi, Dave - I have an F97 code on my GE double wall oven(s). Would you be able to advise me on how to attack this? Cooling fan replacement, it seems, is the most likely problem, I understand. My model is JK3500DF3BB. Not under warranty. Thank you.
great video, have the same code and plan to change it out. I would have tried it out before pushing it back in the cabinet. Hope mine is the same issue and the fan fixes it. thanks again.
Pro tip, just give the fan a little nudge to get it going or bang your door a couple time to jar it free. There are 2 fans one up top and 1 in the middle. The one in the middle is giving me problems. I seen several people that continue to have the same problem with new motors so it’s a design flaw.
Interesting, Jacob; I only found one fan up top, and there was something leaking out of it, so I'm suspecting a seal failed and the lubrication around the bearings drained out and ran them dry. Thanks for watching!
I had built a staircase for our dog out of plywood that was sturdy enough to hold it. Just be sure to use a good, strong table because that double oven is a hefty beast!!
Hi Dave excellent video! How did you get to the conclusion that was this blower fan who needed to be replaced? I noticed you didn’t have a reading machine to help diagnosed the issue, please let me know
Hi Marlon! I literally googled "GE F96" and got hits on different appliance repair sites that consistently pointed to a "fan blower failure." Think I got a generic message from a GE site that said something like "Possible fan issue, contact GE for service." Thanks for the kind words and for watching!
Hey Dave, I follower yr guide and got my blower replaced pretty easy'ish. The old fan wasn't turning and I put the new one in and it started spinning and I had air flow so I put the entire thing back together and back in the wall, and now I have nothing again, it's showing an f96 error again and acting like the fan isn't turning, but u still feel air flow comming out the bottom. Any ideas?
Hmmm, man, that's frustrating, Ryan. Is there any chance you might have accidentally loosened the power connector (or perhaps it wasn't "clicked in" firmly) or somehow knocked the ground screw loose when you moved the oven back into the wall cavity? Those would be the first things I'd suspect. Let me know what you find out!!! Thanks for watching!
I have the same GE oven, but I'm getting an F97 error code. Is this caused by faulty fan, like the F96 code? I've tried resetting the breaker, but it didn't fix the problem. Thanks.
Thanks for the video Dave! I have a similar oven with the same F96 error code and your video helps put me on the path to eliminating the problem. Incidentally, I recognize the fan from several GE Microwaves I've installed. I wonder if its the same part.
Awesome!! It certainly could be the same part. I had to dig through a couple of "exploded" parts diagrams for different ovens with similar parts before I was sure what I needed to order, and had to make sure the parts guy at our local supplier was ordering what I wanted! Thanks for watching!!
Well, for us, we would cycle the power to the oven and it would act like it was going to work. We'd fire it up, but then it would show the code thereafter and lock up. It got to a point where it did nothing.
The part number is WB26X24020. It's available through several online retailers, but I actually got mine for approximately the same price through a local parts shop for about the same price. Thanks for watching!!

Don't believe there is any way to access the trim strips that hold the screws for the mounting brackets without taking the doors off. Even if there is/was, I wouldn't want to have to worry about pulling the unit out of the oven *and* the doors flopping down in the process.
I appreciate the video, but it could be made shorter if you didn't video removing every screw; just point them out. See the video from InFix Appliance in Richmond, TX. Thanks!

Is it bad to use ur oven when it’s flashing the f96 code
For us, when this code was displayed, the oven was inoperative.
I would just wait a bit cuz I keep ignoring the problem 😬and it would work when I tried again.

Buy a magnetic 1/4” bit and a smaller drill. Then pay a professional to do their job. Stop being cheap.
