Thank you, thank you, thank you. Off to my planning department to argue, bitch, and scream. Thoroughly enjoyed this series and the info. Kudos to you for sharing. You're keeping any semblance of independence in this country alive and well. Peace and blessings.
Thanks for sharing this video glimpse of your son’s home build. Red, your cadence and explanation remind me of a favorite teacher. You would make a great addition to faculty at a vocational education program. April, what are your plans for gardening this coming season. Here in NE Ohio we have been blessed with temperatures in the 70’s with a promise of a return to 40° and rain for the coming weekend. I’m sorely tempted to start planting seeds even though I expect at least one killing frost before June. Wishing you and your family a blessed week filled with gentle seasonally appropriate weather and restful evenings. Peace
Thanks! 🙂 I just started working in the garden, and hope to plant some seeds tomorrow. We could still get another freeze, but I should be able to cover the plants. Spring came suddenly this year! One night we were down to 17°, and the next week we had highs in the upper 80°s! Thanks so much! Wishing you a wonderful and beautiful spring! 🌷🌸 🌷
Sketchiest table saw cut I've seen ever! You really want to support crosscuts with a miter gauge or a crosscut sled! Really interesting project though, I had never heard of hyper adobe before.
greeting from France. what a fun packed and informative vidéo. the voice over is great. we see the work and the explaination makes it easy to understand what's been done.
Always fun to watch the progress! Can’t wait to see how the final house ends up looking. With the massive walls, it will probably shrug off any wind like its nothing.
From what I have seen from DIY builds on UA-cam, shipping container homes are not fast, easy, or cheap. We expect this whole house will cost around $15,000. Earth homes also have many advantages over wood or metal, especially here in the desert. 😎🏜️
You might need massive windows only on the south facing walls to heat the interior, but your floors may need insulation. Often people don't insulate and get around this by having 2ft thick walls. For cooling, try large geothermal tubes.
Yeah, it's too bad he didn't want to mess with adding more windows. Our house is heated entirely from big south facing windows, and it works great. After seeing how nice our house is in the winter, he regrets not adding more. It should still stay pretty nice, his walls are 18 inches thick.
Since you have experience in making aircrete, maybe you can have on top of your roof as insulation and the requirement on strength aren't as high as the roof isn't load-bearing
Thanks! We considered adding vents and could add them later. The vents are typically for the attic space, and this is an unvented roof without an attic, so they shouldn't be needed.
if it was me. i'd cob in glass blocks between the i beams. as many glass blocks as possible so being inside wouldn't throw me off of being in tune with the natural cycles and i wouldn't need as much lighting either indoors during the day.
That would be cool, but it would be pretty hard to seal it well enough to keep water out. We considered adding a skylight, but the type we needed for the roof panel was more expensive than he wanted to pay.
@@RedandAprilOff-Grid after doing adobe, most so a lime plaster to water proof it. some even put in the extra effort and tadelakt the lime plaster. that would make it water proof.
The outside will be covered in stucco. The walls are 18 inches thick. We used the native soil which has a lot of clay and some caliche, so it's very solid.
Cutting out the notches here is a good thing since the hurricane won't peel the whole roof causing interior water damage. Eves are essential to protect the non stabilize soil.
I think the non evenly spaced beams would bother me long term. I know it might cause a touch of waste, but putting the outside beams up first and figuring it would be about 1.5" less than 4' spacing to have them even would have been my choice. Unpopular choice, I know.
It has one window, some light tubes, and the door will also have a window. He didn't want to mess with putting in more windows, but does regret it some now.
Would love to see somebody attempt to carve a window after putting in a wall. I think I saw somebody do it once for a door, was it on the curvitexture channel? They were using super Adobe sandbags and not hybrid Adobe tubes and I believe they used a knife to cut the material. They also changed the fill material where the door was going to be with pure sand so they could excavate easily. It looked a little fuzzy and rough. The whole idea of putting the windows in after laying the bags is to make the bag length easier and faster because you don’t have to go around the door and window bucks.
He didn't want to mess with them at the time, but wishes he had put more in. The door will have a window, and the house will have good lighting, so it will be fine.
James 5:16-18 King James Version 16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. 17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. 18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.GODS BLESSINGS OVER YOU .
OK, so I have to ask - what's with the straps and these block boards to "help hold down the roof" in place or whatever? Lots wind there or...... ? Do you think the roof will or could come off somehow?

Very lucky son to have parents like y’all ❤😊
We decided if he could get the walls mostly done, we would help him finish. I wish I could help more, but my neck is being a pain. 😄❤️
I just binge watched all 3 😅 looking forward to see the house come along
Thanks for tuning in! 🌞🏜️
clean craftmanship on the corner blocking!
I love the rafter idea that I may use on an upcoming greenhouse project. Thank for sharing such a cool project. 💯
I really dig your family's vibe. What you have accomplished so far is nothing short of amazing. I'm hooked. Can't wait to see the end results.
Appreciate it, thanks for watching! 😊
Really enjoying this small build and looking forward to future updates.
Thanks!

Thanks, you too!
Thank you!
Great looking earth house, looking good
Thanks!
Good choices throughout the process.
Thanks!
Столько усилий ради такого крошечного дома. Бытовка или контейнер были бы гораздо лучше.

Great video.......I see you guys have uniforms.....lol matching shirts lol
Thanks! 😄
I would use cheap screws on the osb board eaves so the wind storm won't take the whole roof. I go pick them up after the storm passes.
It will all be attached well, and should withstand the winds we get here without any problem.

Aircrete is just too finicky for us to trust it for the roof or anything else.
Awesome video I just joined your channel Rosa
Thanks so much! 🌞
@@RedandAprilOff-Grid your so welcome
Serious roof build, i like it. Are you planning any soffit vents ?? just curious, cuz massive heat, i havent been following the build.
Thanks! We considered adding vents and could add them later. The vents are typically for the attic space, and this is an unvented roof without an attic, so they shouldn't be needed.
out side stairs to roof for dinner table or observation Point for telescope ect ?
Cool build, does the roof have a high enough R value to match the walls?
The walls don't have much R value they are mostly just thermal mass. The roof R value will be about 22.
You could have pulled a 3, 4, 5 right triangle, or pulled diagonals on the rectangles from beam to beam to insure squareness..
😎

Are the walls sand/concrete mix? How will it stay together over time with rain etc?
The outside will be covered in stucco. The walls are 18 inches thick. We used the native soil which has a lot of clay and some caliche, so it's very solid.
How long will the red fabric withstand the sun? A year, two years or two and a half? Or will the walls be plastered?
The outside will be covered in stucco, and the inside with earthen plaster.
Doesn't cutting out the notches for the spacer board undermine the integrity of the beam? Especially the portch overhang?
They are locked in well, and once we add the purlins, OSB, and roofing metal, it will be even more solid.
Cutting out the notches here is a good thing since the hurricane won't peel the whole roof causing interior water damage. Eves are essential to protect the non stabilize soil.

We could have made the house a few feet longer, and it would have worked out. Now that the eves are done, the beams don't show anyway.
How come your hyperabobe doesn't have windows?
It has one window, some light tubes, and the door will also have a window. He didn't want to mess with putting in more windows, but does regret it some now.

We have the potential for microbursts here during the monsoon season which can have wind gusts of 100+ mph, so everything needs to be built well.
