Thank you! It was something that was very important to me when we designed the house, because it’s build into the hill above, I considered very carefully that the roof would be the seam between the house and the hill and I wanted it to be a smooth transiston. Hopefully one day the house will look almost like a part of the land 😁
They are! Between every layer of bags are two lines of barbed wire which are securing the bags in place l. If you know it you can see us in the Timelapse installing the barbed wire after we tampered a full course of bags
@@Algarve_family_ecobuild looking forward to the next installment. We'll be looking at buying in Portugal soon and consider building an earthbag home too.
Why not use a few clear or colored bottles in the walls to let light in. Plastic or even glass could be used I think. I do put some in my out buildings so I don't need a flashlight during the day. $0.02
Woooo chicos. Fantástico👌👌 justamente voy por esa zona pronto y estoy pensando en algo parecido. Hay que pedir permisos para construir de esa manera, un abra fuerte, y gracias por compartir👏👏😉🌎⏳🔥🔥
Thanks for sharing this, very inspiring. I am hoping to soon embark on my own project in Spain. How have you dealt with planning permission etc for your builds?
If I'm only building a retaining wall, and it is in solid clay ground, with the bottom of the back side about three feet below grade, will it matter if I just build it straight onto the hard-packed native clay? In other words, even if the bags get wet on a retaining wall, will it actually hurt anything?
Oh we did :) every layer of earth bags has two continuous rings of four pointed barbed wire encompassing the entire surface of the top of the wall. And we added rebar to secure door frames, lintels, and the roof beams/wall plates.
I agree completely, but I fortunately we personally don’t have an abundance of stone here where we are. We’re sitting on a good few tonnes of clay though!
Love this. Very cool. Thanks for sharing. We hope to move out to Portugal in the future so this is very inspiring. (Might need some young bodies to help out with the build though!) 😁
Thank you for sharing🤍I am starting a similar project, just one question 🙏🏼 I read somewhere that when these bags deteriorate the building might collapse!! how is your building holding up? xx
Uauuu!! Realky amazing and inspiring. Happy to find your channel as we also both a land and are looking for cheaper, eco friendly ways to built. Thanks 🤩
It would depend on the intensity of the sun In your particular location, but for us here in the south of Portugal I would say we noticed some signs of deterioration in places (particularly south south/east facing areas) after around months, April-august. Some of the most intense sun we get here. I expect through the winter you’d have a lot more time to work with. When we noticed some breakdown of the bags we used large tarps to shade those areas and got the cob on QUICK! 😊
Some places are more lenient. I live in the country in Oklahoma, told I didnt a permit, in fact they actually thought it was cool someone is going to try to build on herself. First 4 tons of sand arrives this Wednesday, 2024.
we can relate to your sentiment. admitedly we thought the same thing initially.. but we have come to understand that there is very little within our means that we can do to avoid entirely any enviromental impact on our enviroment, in this current paradigm, and especially when building a house, there is always compromise. and infact the entirety of the plastic used in this 4 bedroom home, would fit in a neat stack on our dining table.. and i think thats still a lot less than the plastic waste alone of a comparable concrete house and thats without the carbon footprint of the concrete, transportation of materials etc. we felt that although it is a shame to use the plastic, the fact that this was pretty much the only resource that didnt come directly from our land here, and the other enviomental cosiderations, such as the fact that this type of house typically requires much less heating, that we are entirely solar powered and off grid, that we upcyled and reused second hand wherever possible far outweighed the plastic bags in the end : )
@@Algarve_family_ecobuild I understand. Thanks for your elucidation. Still I wonder; there'll be more ecofriendly ways to do the same. I'm not an expert on this though. Maybe old used tires... Anyway yes the whole ambition to live off grid and eco-consciously aware is already so much better than mainstream!
@@evya6715 the bags we’ve used are 100% from recycled plastic so not too bad. Tires are structurally difficult to built the way we did. We do what we can but have no illusions that there unfortunately is never going to be the 100% eco way of you want to achieve a certain standard for your house
Just found your build. I love the roof. It has such a nice, friendly, organic curve to it. Very peaceful and natural looking!

Is there a roof video?
Very helpful how you show and explain. Now am finding buyer to have fun with our earth bag tiny desert space at 3moons project , near LasVegas Nevada
Gracias por compartir sus conocimientos, saludos y muchas bendiciones para ustedes desde la republica dominicana
Pretty cool, look forward to see more,
Thx for sha sharing
Great job thankyou for sharing
I like the idea of the round concrete window pipes 😃
Thanks! This was one of my favourite design features. And a great money saver 😅
Such a funky design ! You are 2 very clever people 😘
Haha thanks
Aren't the bags supposed to be wired/tied together to keep the structure secure?

I love what you're doing 🙌🏻 ✨
Just amazing! Thank you for sharing. 🌝
Love this. So happy I found your channel!
You are great dear!i also consider to build a superadobe house so i am following you absolutelly🎉🎉🎉🎉❤😅😊
Great! Thanks for the video. I got inspiration for my upcoming build.
Sehr Gut, Danke!

Very welcome! 😁

Exelente construcción 👌... ¿ los sacos de costal por la parte externa fueron resanados con tierra ?.. muchas gracias 🤗🙏
Bravo!!

What’s yo stop the bags from decaying and breaking?
How did you secure the roof? What's preventing a strong wind from just pulling it off?
Is the barb wire substituting for rebar? And is it laid in between each layer of bags? Thank you for sharing and instruction!! Great job!!

Is it possible to make a two storey home like this in a snow cold region?
curious why you didn't use any kind of reinforcement like barbed wire and rebar?
Oh we did :) every layer of earth bags has two continuous rings of four pointed barbed wire encompassing the entire surface of the top of the wall. And we added rebar to secure door frames, lintels, and the roof beams/wall plates.
Any mold growth in your house? We live in the south east where it’s very humid. Considering options for natural built house.
None at all, the lime plaster is naturally mould resistant!
How did we get sooooo far away from stone? Stone is pretty much free. No need for anything but time to stack them. Strength and thermal stability.
I agree completely, but I fortunately we personally don’t have an abundance of stone here where we are. We’re sitting on a good few tonnes of clay though!
Free? Where do you get free stone?
Amazing job! Do you have any knowledge if this kind of building can be built in other climate like in Poland? Thank you🙏
Of course you can! There was a big movement in the high desert in the USA back in the 80ties where temperatures go as low as -12 for weeks
Love this. Very cool. Thanks for sharing. We hope to move out to Portugal in the future so this is very inspiring. (Might need some young bodies to help out with the build though!) 😁
Give us a shout and maybe we can arrange something 😁
How did you keep the water away from your sliding glass doors?
They are higher than ground level, on a step, and have an archway/overhang wherever they are fitted :)
We have 5 kids and desperately need a house and are moving to NC. We have been wanting to do this for so long.
Doooo it 🤩
Great job guys! Can I ask you the website to buy the best and cheapers bags? Thanks
It’s just sand inside of the bags, I assume.
Cool

How many bags did it take to make?
As someone who has no knowdel of building at all can you explain the roof? Because that doesn't look stable to me.
eye built house(conventionally)fura c0uple decades & it l👀ks just fine t0 me.
✌
Do you know how many bags you ended up using?
Amazing inspiration thank you so much for posting this!
Nice
How long can these bags stay exposed to sunlight?

BEAUTIFUL😂 ❤
How many bags?
How much time last this kind of build?
We completed the main house in 6 months, in our spare time after work and weekends. The entire build was done over a year.
Looks cool! What did you use for the window frame? We want to make something similar, but can't find a large diameter pipe.
Thanks! These are actually pre fab concrete tubes designed for underground water pipes. We bought these from the local builders yard!
It looks like a hut?
How do you get permitted to build this

This shit is fucking amazing, holy fuck!!!
How many bags did you use?
I belive it was somewhere close to 3000
Can you put a nail in the wall to hang something?
How much did this cost you?
Less than 10,000
Its cool i guess. But id never build a house like that.
Thanks for letting us know! 😂 are you German if you don’t mind me asking 😁

Hola, se puede hacer con bolsas de Yute, como las que viene el café de importación, pero sale mucho más costoso.😉👌🌎⏳
😏🤙
Su-Su Super Bock!
Or you could've just used adobes, spared the petroleum byproducts and done it just as easily....plastic house.
You talked too much so thumbs down and clicked off
