I sung this with an ensemble - I sung "Stewpots" part, the really low part that they don't do here. People got a kick out of seeing the absolute smallest guy in the group sing the lowest part of the song! :)
Robbie Hagberg and Sue are going to be a bit of a sunroom and it yt me and get it tomorrow so I don't know what to get it but I'm not going 😔😔 I don't know if you want to come to my house and get the rest of the phone with me and I can go to the house and see if I can 🥫🥫 and then go to bed if you need it for me if you want to go to work tomorrow or not yet I just want you guys to come back and I can go to the store for a few minutes and I can go to the store and get back to you on the way to work tomorrow if you're free to the house and get it done before you leave the office today or tomorrow and I will have to go back 🔙 and get it tomorrow after work and then I'll let
I enjoyed this a lot, liked the typing room camera move and the pin-up/quintette sequence, but I was waiting for that last note and felt cheated I didn't get it. The orignal version you can tell it's adapted from the stage, which is fine, but having phrase separation didn't bother me. The voices are good.
I do believe THAT was the purpose. They don’t want you to go back to the Root note so you could feel the frustration of the men in the heat and paradise of Bali. There’s a climax towards the end with NO RELEASE …. on purpose…👀 ❤
This movie seems less framed like a musical and more like an early 2000s sitcom. I keep expecting Zach Braff to start narrating about being an army medic
Watch this from the original 1958 South Pacific. Not only is the song performed considerably better, but the guys are in better physical shape. I was reminiscing about South Pacific ( I saw it in the theater in 1958) and wanted to hear this song. After I saw that there was this 2001 version. If you haven't heard and seen the original, you might think this was good. Nope. They even sang it slower.
I can't say I'm a particular fan of this adaptation, but boy do I love me some Harry Connick Jr... any chance you've got "Younger Than Springtime" available to upload?
Robbie Hagberg do you think it's a sing about me and I can read this is me and a large fry and a large you can get it tomorrow or not and I don't think it will be there in a few weeks and then go to Mexico and 1984
Although I enjoy both versions of South Pacific, unlike most (all?) of the commenters here, I liked this rendition of "Nothing Like a Dame" better. The guys are not walking back and forth but actually going about their everyday business and military duties.
Hey, compared to Brodericks Music Man, this aint half bad. At least here they have a sense of humor. The original South Pacific, like the original music man, is crafted as if its for the stage. I can't totally fault an updated version using modern sets, camerawork and aesthetics. This version expanded on the general idea behind the song, and gave it a fresh take. Not great, but not trash can material.
Agreed. I have nothing against Mr. Broderick, and actually respect him a bit for being WILLING to do "The Music Man" (A TINY bit...) but BOY does he not fit as Harold Hill!!!😅 I tried listening to his version of Seventy-Six Trombones... And after 30 seconds switched to Robert Preston's version...😂
Great VOICES but nothing to see with the historical original Hollywood archive in TechniColor CinemaScope and StereoPhonic Outstanding rendering SOUND EVER VERSION but still gay musical power still to! Happy Xmas to yu all and do take care and in every situation DO Wear yur facemask. Merci beaucoup from Paris France. Emmanuel
I don't understand why they did this. They didn't try to improve it. I guess if you just really love Harry Connick Jr's voice, but the original is just so much better.
Silly Elsa... liberals like this song as much as anybody else. And who do you think runs Hollywood and Broadway? That's right, liberals. Just deal with it.
@@olly-kai But the liberals running Broadway and Hollywood today are political extremists; within the past decade the entertainment industry has swung far-left. Thus, there's been a lot of censorship lately toward things considered 'politically incorrect.' For example, comedy/satire is dead because of these humorless so-called Social Justice Warriors. Furthermore, on Broadway, which is even worse than Hollywood, you can't get anything produced unless it promotes a 'woke' agenda; even the classics are revived and shoehorned with far-left propaganda (e.g., anti-male, anti-white, anti-America, anti-femininity in girls/women, anti-masculinity in boys/men). I can't wait until the pendulum swings back and moderates are in charge again. Censorship is never good for the arts nor artists.
Ouch this is so bad. You can't have a musical number divided into so many different scenes with different groups of people, singing the same song. It actually comes across as a TV commercial. Unacceptable. What idiot directed this? Just awful.

Shot in Queensland just north of Cairns! 18 years old and shaving sailor to find the travel. Fun times.
Great job all
True . It is over directed. But this is the song that everyone remembers and sings along too.

Love southpacific
Didn't know they remade this!

They DARED remove that note!!! 😤😤😤
(I do get your point though... MAN did it work...) :(
Wait, they seriously cut the big final note?!?!? No wonder I never heard of this movie version before. SMDH

Scrubs !
At least they have Simon the red Wiggle from The Wiggles!!! ❤️💛💜💙😄👍🏻.

Love the original. Do not like remakes of classics. They never hold up!

Hi there fellow South Pacific'er!! :-) xx
I prefer the 1958 version of this song
i agree
Everyone does
I agree
I liked Robert Pastorelli but he can't hold a candle to Ray Walston as Luther Billis.
Not too many people can hold a candle to Ray Walston in any role he plays....

There is nothing like the original version

Can all the songs be uploaded?

I wholeheartedly agree with you!
Yeah, this version is actually cinematic; the original 1958 film had them in the same location as if it was the stage version.
I actually do think that is a strength of this version.
And it shows how the military was segregated (important for a story about racism)

It doesn't work. Sorry, "there ain't no substitute" for the old school style and aesthetics.
Well, it wasn't horrible, but, the original is better. Glen Close looks like the nurse's CO.
RIGHT?
honestly i like this version better... except for the last chord, all that build up and you end it like that why?!?!
Now you know how THEY feel... ;)
WHY would anyone cast Glenn Close as Nellie? Ick!
They should have cast her as Nellie’s grandmother.
Glenn Close was 53 for this Production...and she can't dance.
I don't understand why they did this. They didn't try to improve it. I guess if you just really love Harry Connick Jr's voice, but the original is just so much better.
don't let the liberals hear this song ...

Then again, this musical had progressive themes like anti-racism

Horrible.
I hope they don't try to make an SJW version. YIKES!
The most important theme of the movie is interracial marriage, which in the 50s was considered communist propaganda.
Not nearly as good as the original.
