The Islander - Shanneyganock - Lyrics ,

- Опубліковано 15 тра 2010
- I'm a Newfoundlander born and bred
And I'll be one 'til I die
I'm proud to be an Islander
And here's the reason why
I'm free as the wind
And the waves that wash the sand
There's no place I would rather be
Then here in Newfoundland
I spent some time in New York state
And I nearly lost my mind
The city life's too fast for me
Nobody has the time
Cement and steel and flashing lights is all that I could see
It may be good for New York state
But it's no damn good for me
I'm a Newfoundlander born and bred
And I'll be one 'til I die
I'm proud to be an Islander
And here's the reason why
I'm free as the wind
And the waves that wash the sand
There's no place I would rather be
Then here in Newfoundland
In Montreal the frenchmen say that they own Labrador
Including Indian Harbor where me father fished before
But if they wanna fight for her
I'll surley take a stand
And they'll regret the day they tried to take our Newfoundland
I'm a Newfoundlander born and bred
And I'll be one 'til I die
I'm proud to be an Islander
And here's the reason why
I'm free as the wind
And the waves that wash the sand
There's no place I would rather be
Then here in Newfoundland
Now that the oil is on our shore
We better take the time
To develop it more carefully
Or else we're gonna find
What could have been the answer to a poor economy
It changed our way of living
And destroyed our fishery
I'm a Newfoundlander born and bred
And I'll be one 'til I die
I'm proud to be an Islander
And here's the reason why
I'm free as the wind
And the waves that wash the sand
There's no place I would rather be
Then here in Newfoundland
I'm a Newfoundlander born and bred
And I'll be one 'til I die
I'm proud to be an Islander
And here's the reason why
I'm free as the wind
And the waves that wash the sand
There's no place I would rather be
Then here in Newfoundland
There's no place i would rather be
Then here in Newfoundland

When I lived in Newfoundland, I didn't take it seriously, and I hated it. But after I moved to Ontario, I realized that it is the greatest place in the world
this took the words out of my mouth.. I'll bee moving to bc in about 3 months from now nd I have spent the last 2 yrs here in NL and felt that I haven't takwn seriously as well
This is great to hear. I’ll be leaving Ontario for Newfoundland and plan to stay. I can’t wait to leave this province.
This is exactly what I went through. Except I moved to friggin' TEXAS! I never realized how full of culture we are until I left. Typical.
@@elDuderino87 ... we left Ontario a year ago ... best move we ever made
Loving the love for Newfoundland in these comments, makes me happy as a lark lol.
I've never once thought I'd move away from here, but seeing your guys' comments, well now I definitely won't lol
i've lives in this island for now 6 years and i still admires the newfoundlander pride these guys got
Thanks, but it's not there enough in the young people here anymore, sadly.
Truly, us Newfoundlanders have had it rough compared to most of Canada, on the financial, political and cultural sides, definitely, and taking great pride in this rock is my way of showing all my ancestors including those who've served King and country for hundreds of years, and fellow my Newfoundlanders, how much I appreciate everything they went through to get us to this point.
I’m a young kid who has to do this for the concert I’m carrying the views here
I AM NOT CANADIAN BUT I LOVE THIS PLACE.HOW I MISS NEWFOUNDLAND.AWESOME PLACE.LONG DRIVE FROM ST.JOHN'S TO BONAVISTA .I LOVE IT.SEE YOU WHEN I SEE YOU AGAIN.MEMORABLE PLACE..
Being American born and now adopted Newfie, I got to say I never heard this music till I came to Newfoundland, now I listen to it all the time. Where you at b’ys? Anyone listening in 2020??
Buddy it’s 2023 and I’m still listening bah
@@Garrett111 same here!!
@@ignacioprado ayyyy
Anyone who isn't born here but moves here and sticks it out for all the good and the bad then, you are a Newfoundlander, through and through. If you have/do these things like us then that's what makes us, US. (well most of us lol)
*Firstly, and most important*
*-A deep, undying love for this Rock that we call Newfoundland*
*Then*
-A cast-iron will.
-Hatred for our own weather.
-Not moving because of said weather.
-Always trying to be considerate and friendly to strangers (most times lol).
These few things are our just some of what makes up a Newfoundlander but if you can check each of those off your list then, by God me ol' trout, you are a true blue Newfoundlander b'y
Oh, also on pronouncing Newfoundland, our most common way is Newf-in-land but please don't pronouce it New-fin-lind or New-found-lind because no joke many of us, well we hate when our Island's name is pronouced wrong, especially on T.V. lol
Sorry for the long message, but I love talking about this place lol.
@@meatyoakergeorge damn brother, that almost made me cry and yes, NL is my home sweet home. Every time I go on vacation I can’t wait to come back because I can honestly say I freakin love this place, it’s people!!
I'm in Florida its late december and there is still no where I would rather be than back on the rock

Yeah, though, really, I've no joke, given out my entire name and address when someone threatened to "neck me" as he said, but 5 years on, and I'm not "necked" lol
Dis is me favourite song to listen to, when I's fishin' with pa. That and Heavy Away. Me and pa are proud newfoundlanders.
Can you please type in proper English? As a Newfoundlander it’s embarrassing. We can spell correctly, so please do it. Absolutely no one calls their dad “pa” here either, so are you sure you’re a Newfoundlander ?
@@caitlinhickey6 woops someone missed a joke! Also I know many people who say "pa" so... check your facts please!
@@RealCanadianGoose “check your facts please” lmao!!!!! Not in Newfoundland buddy. You weird mainlanders probably do though.

I consider myself a Newfoundlander. I was born in NS but moved there when I was 4 until 16. Came back to NS for schooling and work but my mother is a Newfie and I miss Newfoundland like you wouldn't believe.

My precious land....
This land belonged to my ancestors and my forefathers, it belongs to me and my family, it will belong to my grand and great-grand children and for that and for that alone,, i will defend every blade of grass that grows on its fields and every flakes of snow that falls on its mountains and picks, i defend every drop of water that runs in its streams, creeks, rivers and lakes, and every grain of sand on its shores, i fight to the end for every breath of its air, the only way to take over my motherland is for me to die.I'll stand tall and with pride with all men defending this land, that we call home.I am not scared of death and so i have nothing to lose i do this because i have given my "WORD OF HONOUR" to defend it and you may ask why?? well son that is how we were in the old days, and that's why i am an old SOLDIER.

I'm from St.johns
I'm from corner brook newfoundland a small town called halfway point anybody been there?
I'm a Newfoundlander born and bred, And I'll be one til I die.
We're the only province in the country that can say it and stand proud.
The youngest in Confederation, And the most beautiful on the planet.
I got salt water in me vein's, And I'll never deny me newfie roots.
Went to New Jersey last year I dryed out by
Listen by we all got salt water in our veins ya would die without it ya goof.
Is it the youngest? I thought that went to Nunavut? After all, Nunavut confederated in 1999. Unless you're saying it is the youngest province???
Tiff Waffles it’s the youngest province. Nunavut is not a province. Territories and provinces are two completely different things.
@@TiffWaffles Plus the Territory of Nunavut was always part of Canada, it just broke off from the Northwest Territories in 1999 to become its own Territory.
I am an Islander, and there is no better place on Earth then here in Newfoundland!
I cant sing but that don't stop me from screaming the lyrics!
me 2 but I love it

Im proud to be a islander
Hello i am a proud Newfie born and raised one and this brings back some good old times with me and a few friends
i went on vacation to toronto and i played this song on repeat on the way to the airport to go back home
You do good job on the islander my favourite song
I live on the west coast but my entire family is from newfoundland mainly clarenville and this is the only song we ever listen too i love it
This is so fascinating from an outsider's standpoint, to think somebody would feel proud to have been born in one specific part of Canada rather than another.
As a Newfoundlander myself, I consider myself a Newfoundlander before I consider myself a Canadian. If someone from another country asks where I'm from I say I'm from Newfoundland. I don't say I'm Canadian right away
+Josh N right on man, i mean many people (my grandparents included) lived a while before joining Canada
It has absolutely nothing to do with geography, but culture and a sense of connectedness to one's ancestors and the people around them. It's a completely normal and healthy phenomenon to take pride in one's culture, why most North Americans don't is a mystery to me.
I consider Newfoundland a good bit separated from the rest of Canada. We joined in 1949 and have kept most of our individuality to this day. Not to mention the Canadian government treats us as an afterthought boon in the middle of nowhere. I will always be Newfie before a Canadian
To OP - Not knowing the past history wouldn't help, and like @spandyandy1 said it's not a geographical thing, it's a cultural/societal thing, and when you don't know any of the history, you wouldn't even be able to understand the reasons why.
Good Old Irish Coming out in that song,
No kidding
Gotta love it tho
well i'm proud to be a Newfie
Same
We newfi newfi squad
Same heat far bud
Dar
U a newfi
I'm so prouded to be a Newfie
If your actually proud you wouldn’t call yourself a Newfie, you’d call yourself a Newfoundlander
@@newfoundlandmapping4493 i have a hat that says "newfie"
Imho, the word has bad connotations and history, but just like that other derogatory "N" word for black people, they took over the word as their own, so us Newfoundlanders can use "Newfie" and still have pride in our rock, and all we stand for...
Although, I myself tend not to use it, I won't say other Newfoundlanders can't and that they don't have pride in Newfoundland because of using it
100% newfie.yes bye👍👍Awesome song
This song is too catchy for it's own good. When people as me where I'm from, I ALWAYS quote this subconsciously. c:

Me too.always to be a proud newfie.
I went to newfoundland on an exange when I was 11 with my class. I was screeched In so I'm a Newfie at heart
Some Newfies learn the Irish language at MUN uni but our own dialect of the Irish language called Gaeilge Thalamh an Éisc died out a long time ago. There is not much written about it but it seems to have resembled Munster Irish. Newfoundland Irish was at one point the main language of the predominately Irish areas of this province notably the south east Avalon. Sadly we are taught nothing about how the Irish came to Newfoundland, the reasons for it and the hardships they endured.
Newfoundland rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I may not be a full islander but my father is and I am partly one and that’s all I need to love my Newfoundland. If the Frenchman want Newfoundland they can come and get it

how can you be from there and mis spell your own home province's name?? no other newfie I know spells it this way!?
