This is so helpful! I was totally duped by all the people I've talked to about bearings being the most important thing for speed. I've learned so much about longboarding from your videos, thank you so much for your comprehensive advice!
Haha, guilty. I’m one of those who could barely ride and went down the fastest hill I know at 32mph on a cruiser. No skill to brake what so ever and no clue what DH longboarding is. That went well. But what I did get out of it, was falling in love with longboarding. :) Just now learning to brake.
I've watched lots of your great content, thanks for everything you do! I can't be the only subscriber who wants to know more about you... Where in Kenya do you live, how long have you been skating, how big is the Kenyan longboarding community, how did you get sponsored etc? Its time for an 'about you ' upload...
@@downhill254skate also, what are the road surfaces like, do local drivers treat you with respect, what's your worst injury, and have you skated in other countries?
Thank you for all the great content you put out there! I’ve learned quite a bit from your videos and website that has been helpful to me in improving my technique. I don’t have access to a local longboarding community, so having expertise like yours on tap has been a great way to fill that gap. Much respect and please keep at it!
2nd time longboarding, didnt know how to brake, went down the steepest, longest hill in town, at night, that was scary and hurt, i know how to brake good now
As i confident to stand on my longboard, i started to bomb the hill without knowing how to stop it 😂 Of course i ended up multiple crash and yes that was really stupid lol
My biggest mistake I made was listening to people who didn't know what they were talking about. More weight on your front foot they said, ... I've got ALL my weight on the Front foot I said. All your Weight on the Front isn't going to make Sliding easy.
Brake soles help with making your shoes last a lot longer. Skating a wet road won't necessarily ruin your board. Just wipe it dry afterwards. You bearings may get destroyed over timne tho. Which wheels you talking about specifically?
I have tried briefly, but crouching down to get those tight turns has always felt really uncomfortable and sketchy. Is there any advice you can give? Or is this just a case practice
Practice Long distance pushing before going downhill :D i don't like foot braking for the love of my shoes [Vibrams] :) and bad roads touching them, I got a land paddle, but never got on my board for months again [family ":(][
Foot breaking has seriously saved my life more times than I can count
He is literally talking about me. Using a carving board to bomb a hill without a freakin idea how to even stop with zero gear. THEN I DIED
Hahaha, we've all been there
Courtesy of a good community that is always ready to give me advice, I have never done these things 😁
Lol you're lucky!

"Your option is to fall... or fall..." LOL, I'm beginning to think I should have stuck to birdwatching.

As a beginner i use a swerve stick to learn longboard

I fucking love the Mcfly's that came with my Quest. They feel like they have some sort of magic incantation in them. Like riding on sky
Useful tips

I should see that before, I did all those mistakes
It is not the speed of things that kills, but the slowness of thought.. :p
Hitting stationary objects at high speeds may also be a contributing factor
Haha, like Jeremy Clarkson said, it's not speed that kills, it's suddenly slowing down

Wouldn't you go thru alot of shoe footbraking? Are those 73mm wheels any good for sliding? I want to skate on wet roads. Will it ruin my board?

should tag NSFL before showing that bushing around 4:04
Deciding to throw a footbrake at 65kmh/h + is really fun and scary
Atleast you survived to tell the tale
Can you use a cruiserboard for small hills?
What do you mean small hills ... They'll likely wobble out on you at 18mph+
I want to ride down hills and carve about 100 meters
long at a speed of about 30 kmph
Will a dinghy work or should I get a longboard?

Which dropthrough board from Landyachtz (or other brands) would you recommend for a beginner? I mainly intend to just cruise around with my mates.
Drop cat. 33inch if you'rer short (less than 5.8). 38, if you're taller. Drop hammer if you don't like the drop cat
@@downhill254skate Is a switchblade for $60 worth it (2014, 2nd hand).

How about beginner mistakes when they are learn to slide. Maybe you can make kind of analytical opinion or react video of someone's video on youtube.
Anyway, thank you for making this episode. U did great job 👍
Sure could do, thanks for the idea!
foot brake is way more easier compare to sliding
yeah but you cant do it at high speeds
