The cover already looks like it's got the 'NOT GOOD' template over it
So did van weezer thou
Thats kinda the point, they are fed up with there record and the label are making them do one more album before they can switch so this whole album is designed to make the label as little money as possible.
@@ThebubbleySquirtle yeah fairo, still bad music is bad music. If it's their plan, the post-reprise comeback better be Green Day's magnum opus haha
@@jordannewitt Oh 100 percent, GD is tied for my favorite band of all time but Im not excusing the music being bad because it is. its not a good track. I'm just saying don't look at it like its the new direction GD is headed in. its not. A decent chance we actually get 2 albums by them next year. This throw away one and a real one on a new label.

Your initial reaction of "Is this a joke?" is actually pretty spot on. This record is there last on Reprise Records as they are making them do one more release before releasing the band. There has been some tension between the band and the record label. so they made the cover art super unappealing so it would sell less shirts. Used "Motherfucker" in the full title of the album so it would be harder to sell to the mainstream. And are making the album literally the exact amount of time it has to be to qualify as an album vs an EP. None of this has been flat out stated or else they could be sued by the label. This song and subsequent album are not something Billie and the band poured there heart and soul into. It is also very possible we either get two albums in 2020 this "Joke" album and a "Real" album when they sign to a new label or go the self-released way, or this album in 2020 and another in 2021. The song itself isn't great and thats coming from someone who loves Green Day on of my favorite bands of all time. But knowing the backstory behind it makes me a little less on edge and more understanding of why they did this.
@Get Real Music That was my exact reaction. in this twitter thread theres a video of them saying it without saying it. (apologizes if it linked weird not sure how links in youtube comments work) twitter.com/_pvnkrocker_/status/1171749926872727553
Informative, underrated post.
Die hard fan, I think you’re spot on. I also low key think the trilogy they did was because they didn’t make the quota of number of albums released in their contracted period.
ThebubbleySquirtle Even if this is the case, when bands and artists intentionally release bad music, it's still gonna exist as a stain on their career, regardless of the context.
I hope this is true, because this song sucks and the leak I heard last weak of a few seconds from a song kicked ass
September 11, 2001 has had an incredible impact on my life. I remember thinking that day that it was going to be something I would never forget. Hardly a day goes by that I don’t think about it. It was the day Nickelback’s album Silver Side Up was released.
I went to Walmart to buy it. The cashier was crying. She must have already listened to it and was affected by some of the more emotional songs.
On the way home I popped it into my CD player. I was blown away by it from the very first moment. I tired to stop at a gas station, but for some reason they were all crowded. I guess it was all the people going out to buy the new album.
When I got home my parents asked me if I had heard the news. I told them I already knew about the new Nickelback album. I went to my room to listen to it.
Every song was amazing and the track layout was perfect. The cover art was awesome. Chad Kroeger and the other guys looked like the epitome of rockstars. It was an incredible work of genius and I could understand why the cashier was so emotional. I had loved Curb and The State, but this was something completely new and different from my favorite band.
My parents were watching the news really loud so I had to turn it up to drown that out. I played it on repeat over and over until I fell asleep. It was one of the most memorable days of my life. I can’t even begin to imagine what my life would be like without Silver Side Up.

idk bout every one but it got me dancing like a mother facker.
I thought their last albums with Warner were Uno/Dos/Tre because those albums existence were to fill up their contact with them lol.
It would make sense though because now it will show who truly knows Foxboro Hot Tubs which this new track is very reminiscent of.
@Gabriel el tipo ese That's the thing about jokes though. If it is a troll job, they could just be fucking around and having fun without worrying what comes out. If the theory is proven right, I'm sure they enjoy whatever they made, but it won't be a representation of what they are doing long term.

@@Maztuhmind nah, WB made the trilogy count only as one album in their contract. One of the reasons why Billie Joe got fed up with being signed to a conglomerate's music label, and he's phoning this album him at the bare minimum so he can do whatever the fuck he and the band wants

Big Jiggy Exactly what I felt, just a bunch of uninteresting tropes
Fruit Rings I really do like them. I’ll defend 21st Century Breakdown, it’s not as bad as people say it is. This however, it sounds like a b-Side to a song on Uno, Dos or Tre...
Revolution Radio was good, not their best but it showed improvement. My hopes are gone though, this track stinks.
I actually said out loud "what the fuck was that?" after the song was done.
i thought Green Day were on a roll after they hit their lowest ever point in 2012-13 but then came back with an amazing refreshing album in 2016 which is one of my top favourites, its been 3 years since they released Father Of All and im still in shock
They did not put much effort into it, it was lazily put together because they legally needed another album to be done with their contract with reprise records. They stated they’ll probably have a better album soon which from promotional material is probably going to be announced sometime in early 2023
@@AshArtzMusic Where did yo get that information? Billie Joe has never stated that the album was lazily put together just to be done with a contract, that´s a rumour that´s been circulating since 2020. If they had a better album, it would have already been released by now, but it´s not the case. I don´t understand why people like to justify Father of All, I´m a huge Green Day fan, but I admit that the album is garbage.

green day is my favorite band so my opinion may not be as credible, but though this song isn't a hit for me, it could be worse. i had the same reaction that you did of just like... wtf is this green day? why does it sound like that one portugal the man song? what? why is the cover art so god damn awful?
but. the band claims they're going in a more classic rock direction with this album so i'm at least anxious to hear how they go about that. i agree that the music on this song is solid, but the over production of the vocals is bad. i don't dislike the style, and as a long time green day fan, i've heard worse from them. i'd like to hear them clean up the vocals and dirty up the instruments on the whole record.
Alyson Rose There’s actually some hints that Green Day are releasing another album alongside this one on their own label. In an interview they talked about how they owe Warner one more album and this is it. There’s an alternate album cover floating around. Look into it...

Honestly the track is kind of growing on me. I was completely taken aback when they released it but I can't say I haven't gone back and listened to it a few times, and I think it's pretty damn catchy. Obviously I don't think it's on a level of records like American Idiot or 21st Century Breakdown, but I like that they took a risk one way or another, and we'll see how this new album comes along.

I agree that the FOB one is worse, but in recent years I’ve learned to expect nothing from them, haha. Hope they’ll be playing mostly the classics on the tour. It’s a good song, it’s just...not Green Day. You’re right, it slaps like a motherfcker, but it just doesn’t fit anything else they’ve ever done. Billie’s voice is heavily edited and the overall sound just does not fit their typical style. I like it as a song, not a Green Day song.

Have to disagree with you, melon!
This song is much more comparable to their side project Foxboro Hottubs where they're focusing more on writing dancable party anthems. The majority of your criticism is based around the fact that it's unrecognisable as Green Day but seriously I don't believe for one second that most people who've heard a lot of Green Day's music wouldn't immediately pick out BJ's voice once it hits the belting vocals in the chorus.
Besides, the changes they do make are completely welcome for me because they've already made plenty of early punk records and arena rock anthems, and I'd rather hear something new.
That being said, the album art is dogshite lol

I agree with you that I like the drums and most of the instrumentation in general and those are the bits I actually focus on. It doesn't sound like Billie Joe, as you also say, and that's a little off putting.
However if we try to ignore that it's by Green Day, it's actually a pretty interesting track. It's more like all their/Billie's other side projects mixed together (Foxboro, The Network and even The Longshot.)
Sounds like a car commercial song. “Come get the new Ford 3000 for $1225”.
