    I repair and mod ipods, So ive got all the proper models from 3-6 gen to mod. I recently brought a 6th and 7th gen nano, well 4 x 6 gens 16gb model. I love them at night, its perfect to listen to music and go to sleep or taking it out and about. They were so cheap, got one with a cracked screen for 15 pounds, brought a new screen and boom, the only non soldering thing you can do on it and it worked a treat. Now ive cleaned up the other 2 and the last one was mint so i dont want to use it ,like the 7th gen nano as they are both still boxed. Great lil device as only 3 times as thick as my headphone lead end. amazing

      This may be a dumb question but is there any way to add bluetooth without having a whole adapter plugged in? (I know that would likely be very complex or impossible)

    At the time of its release bluetooth capabilities were available, but Bluetooth headphones didn't exist. It would still be a useful device these days if it only had BT and mic, and of course, flexibility to get alternative firmwares. Wifi (and DAC) are maybe too much for this little guy, but I still dream of a reissue of this devices from nowdays apple crew. Anyway, it is lovely. I got this one and a 4th gen nano, and I prefer the oldschool round scroll for music, but is a great companion for music without distractions, also works amazing for minimal setups like aux stereo connections with a plug-plug. Maybe it wasn't ahead of its time, and it got nearly obsolete with the massive development of smart phones.. but still does its job (and still looks modern) 12 yrs later, and this means a good engineering and design work.

    • @JackyYBT
      @JackyYBT  Рік тому +1

      Well said! We got too much distractions in modern days, that’s why there’s a trend where people started to go back to using retro tech like this one. It can only be a dream as Apple won't reissue the iPod lineup. I'm too used to Spotify but from time to time I still look back at this little iPod nano.

    • @scottfindley1345

      The other day I had occasion to listen to something through a pretty nice, modern bluetooth headphones, and then immediately listen to the same thing on my Sennheiser HD650s with a proper amplifier. The difference is so massive, I cant imagine anyone preferring the wireless cans if given the oppertunity to compare directly and immeditely to nice wired cans with a nice D/A stage and amp. Its so much more detailed, highs freqs and silky smooth, unfatiguing and everything just sonuds right, the bluetooth still suffers from an additional phase of data compression, and of course the amps, while decent, must be designed to work as efficiently as possible to conserve battery life. This results in characteristics that are subtle, but noticable, especially over time, where the audio feels 'pinched' almost, restricted and processed, if I got to deal with a wire, for me, its worth it

    • @gregorio_luque
      @gregorio_luque Рік тому +1

      That's true! Usually BT is transferred in SBC or AAC codec, which is limited to a low bitrate, losing a lot of the sound richness (maximum 192 kbps). But if a device is oriented to a hi-fi target it can be designed to work with better Bluetooth codecs like aptX, aptX add, LDAC, that are similar to listening to high bitrate mp3 or flac. Also, you have to consider that music platforms don't have high bitrates, or "hi-fi" premium plans; only Apple Music has implemented something like that. But also a "wired" device does not ensure high quality spectrum representation, that's the idea of the "DAC", that work like a little amplifier for premium headphones. Look at the "FIIO M5" or the "Shangling M0 Pro"@@scottfindley1345

    • @scottfindley1345
      @scottfindley1345 Рік тому +1

      Thank you for the more detailed explanation of lossy BT technology, and why it sucks :) In my perfect listening experience, Im listening to completely un-lossy music, FLAC, AIFF or WAV (mostly AIFF as the majority of my music is electronic stuff and this is the native lossless format of bandcamp - exactly the same as any other lossless format but with the sseemingly industry standard ID3 metatagging built in.. @ 48k 24bit, and of course you are right, the term 'DAC' is misused a lot, to describe a kindf of combo digital audio converter AND headphone amp, which are two separate and distinct processes. A 'DAC' in purely technical terms is not necessarly also an amplification stage, nor is a 'headphone amp' necessarily involve a DAC, though they are often lumped together. a DAC it is solely responsible for converting a digital audio signal to an analog one and spitting out an unamplified line-out audio signal.Dont overlook the importance of a good dac though, while, the difference is in the margin - things like clocking jitter can have a massive difference in the overall coherence, detail, and 'listenability' over a long period (bad clocking often leads to a sort of listener fatigue, micro-changes in the rate at which samples are taken can mar audio in very subtle ways.. This is one reason why you see 8000 dollar master clocks in studios and bespoke, high end audiophile dacs on the consumer end-it really makes a difference.

    I bought one of these things years ago when they were already obsolete as a way to listen to podcasts at work while I was a photographer at a dealership, really small and easy to have it clipped on to me or in my pocket and run headphones through my shirt to my ears.

    • @JackyYBT
      @JackyYBT  10 місяців тому

      Thank you for being patient. If you're having trouble transferring music from your iPod Nano 6th gen to your laptop, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially solve the problem:
      1. Use iTunes: Connect your iPod Nano to your laptop using a USB cable and open iTunes (if you don't have iTunes installed, download and install it first). Once connected, your iPod should appear in the iTunes sidebar or under "Devices." You should be able to access the music on your iPod through iTunes and transfer it to your laptop's iTunes library.
      2. Enable Disk Use: On your iPod Nano, go to Settings > USB Mode and select "Disk Use." This will allow your iPod to appear as an external storage device on your laptop, and you may be able to manually transfer music files from the iPod to your laptop's hard drive.
      3. Third-Party Software: There are third-party software programs available that can help you transfer music from your iPod to your computer. Example: iMyFone TunesMate (Windows): imyfone.pxf.io/c/3778375/947344/12696
      (Mac): imyfone.pxf.io/c/3778375/947345/12696
      Download and install this program on your laptop, connect your iPod Nano, and follow the instructions to transfer your music.
      4. Check Compatibility: Ensure that your iPod Nano is compatible with your laptop's operating system. Sometimes, older iPod models may not be fully compatible with newer versions of operating systems, which can cause issues with transferring files.
      5. Restart Devices: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues. Try restarting both your iPod Nano and your laptop, then attempt the transfer again.
      6. Check for Updates: Make sure that both iTunes and your laptop's operating system are up to date. Updates may include bug fixes and improvements that could help resolve any compatibility issues.
      7. Contact Support: If you've tried the above steps and are still unable to transfer your music, consider contacting Apple Support or seeking assistance from a tech-savvy friend or professional for further help.
      By following these steps, you should be able to transfer the music from your iPod Nano to your laptop successfully. If you encounter any specific error messages or issues along the way, be sure to note them down as they may provide clues to the underlying problem.

      You don't need to reformat your iPod Classic to add music from a Mac-formatted iPod to a Windows PC. Here's what you can do:
      1. Connect your iPod Classic to your Windows PC using a USB cable.
      2. On your Windows PC, open iTunes if you have it installed. If not, you can download and install iTunes from the Apple website.
      3. After connecting your iPod Classic, it should appear in the iTunes sidebar or as a device icon in the top-left corner of the iTunes window.
      4. If prompted, choose to "Trust" the computer on your iPod Classic's screen.
      5. In iTunes, click on your iPod Classic to access its settings and summary page.
      6. Under the "Options" section, make sure the option "Enable disk use" or "Manually manage music and videos" is checked.
      7. Now you can go to your Windows PC's File Explorer and open your iPod Classic as a removable storage device. You should be able to see its content, including the "Music" folder.
      8. Locate the music files you want to add to your iPod Classic on your Windows PC. You can copy and paste or drag and drop the music files directly into the "Music" folder on your iPod Classic.
      9. Safely eject your iPod Classic from your Windows PC.
      10. Disconnect your iPod Classic from the USB cable.
      11. On your iPod Classic, navigate to the "Music" section to access and play the newly added music.
      By following these steps, you can add music from your Windows PC to your Mac-formatted iPod Classic without the need for reformatting.

    The 6th gen ipod nano is the still, the worlds best portable music player for serious audiophles and people that care more about music than convenience. Why? Ill tell ya. Phones, suck. Nobody wants to run with a goddamn heavy, enormous glowing square on their arm.
    I dont stream, I dont want to stream, the shit I like isnt on streaming platforms,.
    wireless audio, SUCKS. Wireless audio will always suck. I dont have to charge my headphones, i just plug them in, and they go forever. and they sound amazing, lossless. fully unstressed amplification. and theye light. so they dont fall out my ears when I run. dont like the cable? simple, run it down the neck of your shirt, clip to your shorts or whatever. Battery lasts FOREVER. can shuttle through long files, the only thing I listen to (DJ Mixes) Ive had every modern solution. Apply watch ultra, every wireless headphone imagable. ALL GARBAGE the stupid watch wont sync EVER, bluetooth, more like POOTOOTH!! totally spotty and unreliable. Its a miracle every time the stars would align and all three things would work and be charged when it comes time to run. Dont habve time for that shit, when I need it, I need it to WORK. nothing compares to the 6th gen and a nice pair of headphones. Can not belive nobody makes a modern solution for people serious about their music.

      True dat, theres a couple of high end mfgrs now, BUT nothing comes close to the size and functioinality (its got a clip!!) of the nano..Also if you like DJ mixes as I do, for whatever reason ipod os is the only one that gets that people might want to listen to sometinng thats more than 5 minsn long and the only ones that get fast forwarding / shuttling to a precise area of a long file. With the others if you fat finger the FF button youre back to square 1 and gotta hold it down for like 2 mins to get back to where you want. frustrating!! Could there really be this few people that care about this kind of thing?I guess so :/ lol. Cheers!
