I really like Rantoni's point at 8:38. People who hide behind the blanket defense of "it's just a joke" always end up being super offended when they come to realize people don't find them funny.
Im a black man and I have a lot of chinese friends. One of my friends was listening to me basically question the Chinese government "How do these people even bang!?!?!?". I turn to him and we stare at eachother. Me: Would you ever go back to your mother lands? Friend: Would you ever get on a boat back to africa? And I screamed outloud cackling. It was and still is one of the funniest ways to explain to me whats going on in such a base level. He said it without missing a beat, like he was planning it. If I go to a restaurant with him and someone acts funny, he causes a bit of a scene. We can tell jokes, but you as a stranger cannot nor can you be rude or disrespect us. So on racial humor, I say people should keep it up, but if you accidentally spread some hate, you as the individual have to find and attack it. I hope this isnt a dumb anecdote because im afraid of you people. Yall have a good day.
Makes sense, jokes between friends are fine because you have an understanding, but making jokes offhandedly, you don't know that person or whether they have intentional malice behind their words.
If you start with a joke about yourself, people will be less offended when you joke about them, because they know you've said worse things about yourself. The same goes for secrets. When you tell someone a secret, it's easier for the other person to open up.
Racist humour is literally the best and I will die on that hill. It used to bond people quickly.. Some german exchange kids came and stayed at my neighbours house for a week and we had WW3 water fight, Germans and my neighbour vs the rest of us and it was EPIC
Western europeans insulting each other is peak for sure (a british person + a german + one bonus person having this dynamic in a discord server is brilliant, americans fit in the bonus person role well), but in general it really depends on the spirit in which you're doing it and whether you're ready to stop if its effect is negative instead of positive
It all depends. Observational humour usually hits pretty well...But.. If the point of the joke is to take the piss outta the racism, yeah, that can be good. If the point is to reinforce a bigoted stereotype you actually believe, nah, you can shove off.
@@cpussandfudgy I'd argue they're not really jokes if they mean what they say, but I've heard some dudes I think could be racist come out with some of the funniest racist jokes too.. Comedy is nuanced I suppose, Hitler could have had some banger one liners for all you know
@@JustWilson But that's the problem. Many bigoted people hide under the guise of "comedy" to perpetuate hateful stereotypes. It is all about the purpose, and delivery. I've been struggling with this so much when it comes to stand-up comedians. With some, I didn't mind, but essentially the same joke made by someone else would sound very off and distasteful.
Race humor =/= racist humor. I think where race humor turns into racist humor is when the receiving person does not have the ammunition necessary to defend their race and it essentially turns into bullying. Race jokes are not for the faint of heart, which is why ordinary people get so offended while a seasoned comic can quip their way out of it and in most cases turn it completely around. The other IMO more important thing is when race "jokes" are charged. You can immediately tell when someone becomes hostile and that is the point where it isn't funny any more. There has to be a sense of hostility, otherwise racism doesn't stick around. It just floats in the air waiting for the next person with enough motivation to use it as a weapon against someone. Russel Peters is the perfect example of someone who uses race humor without hostility.
You can joke about everything but it depends on the time, place and delivery. Everything should be allowed but nothing should be protected against criticism.
I believe humor is supposed to be free. IF I laugh about abortion joke. It does not mean I am pro abortion. It depends on he space you share. The best jokes are judgy. I understand your point. This is a nice conversation. I think the crux of this conversation is the idea of power level. How about a wierd in between point. On one side you have the people that make a joke because its horrible, with zero belief in what they are saying. Okay On the other you have people that make a joke because they genuenly want to share what they think and they have hatred for the group they are joking about. Not okay Now how about when you make a joke, and you belive what youre saying, but you dont Hate the group youre refering to. Like youre genuenly making fun of part of a specific culture that you honestly thing is stupid, but you dont think those people are racially inferior and inherently bad, or even that their culture as a whole is bad, youre atacking a specific aspect of it. Is that okay?
You have just re-invented the dog whistle! I'd say its irresponsible to make a joke if the bad group can reasonably think you support them. This can be an easy fix though, just add in a joke that makes this more clear and you should be good. For criticizing culture, make sure you actually understand the culture, the stupid part, and why the stupid part is part of the culture. The goal would be for someone who is part of the culture to feel understood and safe enough to laugh along, rather than to feel threatened or misunderstood/confused by the joke.

I dont need to understand how to fly a plane to know that if one crashes that somebody somewhere fkd up. I dont need to do a deep dive into culture to know that abusing women and children, using them as meat shields, chai boys, stripping them of their rights and education, using pregnant mothers and babies as human IEDs, constantly attacking civilians with bombs, etc is a terrible culture. I dont need to read Shintoism and come from a lineage of Honorables to know that a God King of Japan touched our boats needlessly in Pearl Harbor and that they proceeded to violently assualt to a disgusting degree mainland China and Russia. You imposing your personal feelings into physical barriers for other individuals to have discourse is nothing short of fascism. Free speech cannot remain free with censorship. You cant eliminate evil by ignoring or pretending it doesnt exist. You must face it head on and challenge it. That's impossible to do if people like you enact laws to bully companies to use algorithms to censor people. All in all it is a terrible way to control the populace and considering you have the entirety of human knowledge and history in your pocket I dont understand how you think removing freedoms should ever be okay considering it has NEVER WORKED IN THE HISTORY OF HUMANITY.

For example, I am working on a bit that aims to criticize/reject holocaust denial but using the language and dog whistles of the deniers for ironic/comedic effect. However, this is really hard to do right because the ideology is ridiculous on its face and the dog whistles are quite subtle. so unless im really careful it just comes across as the very bigotry its meant to parody. i have to make sure the whole audience knows my true beliefs, either if they all know me personally (i volunteer at holocaust memorial museum so i hope ppl can deduce my true beliefs) or if i follow the bit with a bit that makes it VERY clear what my beliefs are. most places, such a joke is fairly inappropriate and so i refrain from making it. this is the kind of basic self-censorship that makes a free society work without any need for government censorship. you're not meant to impose my feelings on your work. your meant to impose your own feelings on your work such that it meets your standards. i will impose my standards when i look at your work and decide if it is good or bad in my opinion and use that to decide whether i engage with it or ignore it. From what I remembered he explained it that he was on his way to get the shaolin warrior monk title but didn't in the last minute. It's like if he was finishing college and he already made his thesis but didn't submit it. To me he's a de facto monk warrior but not on paper
@@rafigoghimarfirman3480 if his teachers were mostly modern wushu coaches, then he's not a warrior monk. Old school guys like Shi Yon Xing and Shi DeJian were actual monks with actual combative training.
That's literally not what happened at all. He never had the intention to truly become a warrior monk. He went there after high school because he didn't want to go to college or work a desk job and his father had connections. He had medical issues three years in, couldn't continue training, and left.

He also entered there as a practitioner, not a buddhist Shaolin monk.
Chappell was full of shit about his thing about the camera guy laughing, he’s just a bit racist himself and takes it a certain way.
10:00 oh yes. "by the numbers shock-value" my most hated form of comedy!
Love this trio ❤
Alles Liebe Rantoni digga ❤️
holy destiny X Ranton? wahhhhhhh. coolio
What an interesting man.
Don't talk about Trump behind his back. His ear will start burning 🤣
2013-2016. "What happened" Politics happened
Man ranton is kinda really hot
Watching Ranton without the chaos and editing is really weird
Noooo, Ranton please run, far, far away from Destiny
He isn't ordained as a monk, so the title is false
Title doesnt say he is
@onejediboi that's because they changed it

The fsct is, as humans we r insecire and have biases. Ofc some ppl r more fine w jokes abt certain n not abt others. Like im an ex muslim so i make fun of muslims. But when ppl make fum of athiests i do feel offended sometimes, but thats because I do know they dislike athiests. Destiny brings up trump supporters, because thst seems to be tje first group of ppl he dislikes thay came to mind. Many ppl say dont joke abt us. The fsct u pointed towards trump supporters shows that u too if u made a joke abt them, its probs cuz dislike them.
Erudite is legit top 10 most beautiful women on earth rn.
no ranton/ get away from destiny
Is this podcast about Ranton or your hate toward Trump? Trump is in your head. Make it about Ranton.
trash thumbnail

@@ab3240nah bestiny is gaining aura with his style but hes only 5ft2 ,so idk how much it helps.
I think it looks fine, to each their own.
I really like his content minus when he used to make rape jokes, like, that shit ain't funny in any possible way my brother.
I'm sorry Ranton but 9gag was never "cool"
That's what I was thinking. 😂
It wasn't "cool" but it wasn't explicitly cringe as it would become.
One of my best memories from my teens was discovering 9gag with my best friend, laughing together while sharing memes to each other. I don't care if it was never cool. I enjoyed it until it went to shit.
