Impressed the dupe didn't get stuck building it.

    This build is amazing!
Right in time for me to build one.
Downloaded and tested the build out out on the jBoiler. Took a while to figure out how to tell abe to build it.
No aluminum on my asteroid so had to switch all the stuff at point/tip given into therium. Seems to make quiet a huge impact.
Thanks so much for an amazing build!

tested it and I can testify it works like a charm. I think it can take up to 3 kgs of methanes (assuming to add 1 more valve and pipes), but 15 kw or the double is more than necessary for my base. just amazed how simple but effective the design is.. previous sour gas boilers are so big that its hard to build with huge material cost and fragile due to limited heat exchange... this one is solid due to its sheer small size.
one extra to add: i see NG comes out around 110 celius degree, which is perfect to replace the tepidizer. thus, putting a NG gas chamber at the bottom can boost the energy efficiency (wait, but why do we care energy efficiency if we generate way more effectively than petroleum, etc :)

I didnt know what I was doing wrong with so little output till I remembered I had the initial oil startup at 50g to prime it lol. Very nice work. PLUS the Blueprint. I seen a couple of these that worked a little better but they where 2x the size and I didnt want that.

now add in a glossy drecko ranch and make power off of boiling plastic for a stand alone power brick on a far away asteroid. otherwise a small sour gas boiler requires oil to be transported in

Oh gawd, my brain just melted. DreckaPod + jBoiler = ....no asteroid is beyond the reach of the wrath of the sour gas boiler!

I’m going to try to build one of your mini boilers. I’ve done a petroleum boiler but I like that your mini boilers just skip petroleum. I don’t need much petroleum, I can make what I need from a single refinery.

Brilliant video (almost series about tiny boilers!). Didn't get my own design running reliably and could steal a lot of ideas that help balance thermal mass and temperatures. I'm still a little baffled, that the aqua tuner has to run "so much". In theory, the process should be heat-positive and self-sustaining... But compared to the 17kW raw natural gas generators, this is worth the ~700W running cost of the building. A couple of minor improvements:
    1) The steam and diamond window tile are not really necessary. I primed my own re-build with petroleum and let the crude flash to sour gas upon contact with the liquid lead. This let's you move the liquid pressure sensor one tile down to stop crude oil input earlier and saves on thermal mass during start-up.
    2) I also replaced 5 insulated tiles in contact with the sour gas with steel tiles and let the sulfur pass through them to be dropped on the granite tile next to the steam turbine. A timer sensor set to 1 green / 19 red (about 1kg sulfur per sec) controlling the chute allows the sulfur to go from -161°C to sour gas temperature. Might be able to tune better, so it also cools the granite tile and lets the steam turbine aqua tuner go to passive almost exclusively. Not a whole lot of improvement, but the methane output dropped to 101°C and thermium aqua tuner uptime stabilzes at 70% average.

It's hard for me to imagine what you're saying without an image. Post an image link if you could please.
You did give me an interesting idea though.
Edit: I do get what you're saying about deleting the steam and the window tile. It does make start up harder but it is definitely an improvement. This idea is incorporated into our yet unreleased kBoiler.

    Brilliant compact design.
I'm trying to figure out if a guy could dump heat from the turbine into the bottom instead of using an tepidizer and 2nd tuner. Not that you really need the extra power, but the whole design might fit one on one conductive wire. If you needed to dump a little extra heat in there to cool the turbine, it's probably fine - the main tuner just works harder. If you didn't have enough heat I suppose could cause trouble unless there was yet another path to offset that.... sandbox here I come.

Now that you mention this... A simple conveyer loop with a bridge could do the job... Crap I could delete another tile of height off the nanoBoiler!

The boys in R&D don't think that will help shrink the nanoBoiler... thank Gravitas!

This will actually be very sweet to rig into a dlc rocket with its walls broken down. The small compact size is just begging for it. There's just a coolness factor to saying, ""Yeah, my rocket is powered using a SOUR GAS BOILER" XD

I'm just going to be that guy who points out that 1000kg of water with SHC of 4.179 has more thermal mass than 1200kg of brine with SHC of 3.4

    • @Toertsch
      @Toertsch Рік тому +4

Brine makes sense when you're freezing it to ice though. The SHC of water ice drops to 2.05. Brine ice keeps its SHC of 3.4.
