  • Stephen Seifert playing "Wildwood Flower" (PUBLIC DOMAIN) on a mountain dulcimer tuned DAD.
Learn more about Stephen's lessons, books, and appearances at stephenseifert....
At :53 I hit the sped up version of the song. I played this one with flat pick and am using a mountain dulcimer that has a rich, even, but somewhat more mellow tone. I also made sure to incorporate a lot of different techniques in this version. If you have questions, leave a comment below, and I'll try to answer. Only thing I can think of is that they clicked dislike by mistake or they are just jealous of his talent. It's a wonderful performance and I aspire to reach this level of playing ability.

It's a real shame that anyone would dislike this video. I'd like to see them play any instrument as masterfully as Stephen plays this

    We just lost Jean, yesterday.
    92 years young...
She gave dulcimers to the world.
Encouraged me to continue with my Raymond Layne 3 string.
She said that I didn't HAVE to chord it, summer of 1977 at out Old Town School.
    I still don't..
But this version IS beautiful, chorded...

I've never seen anyone else hold the dulcimer like you do, but it totally makes sense when you're doing all of that fret work. Awesome, and so inspiring. I'm totes gonna have to get my dulc out more often and work on this.

@miniraptorX It's probably the easiest string instrument to learn. People in their 70s with no musical experience can be playing pleasant tunes within a few days. Playing as well as Stephen does, however, requires both talent and a lifetime of dedication.

Have you ever played a Mcspadden? There's something crisp, clean, and easy about them. Something proffesional. Mcspadden's is a wonderful brand, and if you want a well rounded instrument, Mcspadden or Blue Lion is where I turn.
