My latest sun is sinking fast; my race is nearly run. My strongest trials now are past; my triumph has begun. Oh, come angel band; come and around me stand. Oh, bear me away on your snow white wings to my eternal home. Oh, bear me away on your snow white wings to my eternal home.
My grandfather made dulcimers and played them when I was young this reminds me of Sundays sitting on the porch listening to him play and sing.
My Dad wanted this played at his funeral, and so we did. It would be a great honor to him, if I could learn to play it. Thank you so much for this beautiful rendition,,,,,,Im crying, but, it was soooo beautiful.
That's beautiful. I never realized what a full sound the dulcimer could make. A guitar could not sound better than this.
My grandparents and dad were from Jackson County, Ky. I remember my grandfather playing the dulcimer as well as the banjo. What sweet memories.
I play hammered dulcimer, dulcimer, 6 and 12 string guitars, organ, native American flute, mandolin have even played in band at indiana state fair with family reunion string band awesome
absolutely beautiful. wish you had a UA-cam lesson on this particular arrangement for us who are not the master you are
So beautiful. You have such a natural touch with dynamics. I keep coming back to this video... It actually inspired me to buy my first dulcimer!
Brings back so many memories of my childhood, at a little mtn church!

Incredibly beautiful.
Stephen, that was just wonderful! I love it! God bless, Brother Charlie
A friend of mine who played the hammered dulcimer just passed, and that was one of the songs we would play all the time together, hearing this song helps me through the pain. Thanks.

Just got a dulcimer from my son for my birthday. He overheard me say I have always wanted to learn to play a dulcimer. I love this. I am gonna watch and play, and watch and watch till I can do this!! Even though I have never played before I want to do this. I hope to one day play this with my son, he plays the guitar and when I showed him this video he picked up his guitar and learned it in just 5 minutes. I know I will not pick this up in 5 minutes, probably more like 5 months, but I'm gonna do it!!!! This is absolutely beautiful...Thank you.
+Michele W HI Michele, just wondering if you ever did learn to play this song on your dulcimer?
I have only gotten about a 1/4 of it down pat, still trying...love, love, love this song
+Michele W That's good persistence. You are going to be so good, when you learn the song well enough, I would like to see it posted on here. Keep going :)
Michele W I'm only 9 years old but I'm learning how to play a dulcimer at my school!!!

@anurse63935 I was at a Guy Fawkes Day jam the month after my Dad died, and I wanted to play Amazing Grace in his honor... and Angel Band is what came off my fingers.
Fire
Just bought one. Hope I can learn to play it!!! I may have waited to long in life to take up music! I hope not!
I learned at a local dulcimer festival. I recommend seeing if there is one within reach of you.
これは良い。
Stephen, can you tell me the make and model of this dulcimer please? I really appreciate your videos. Thank you!
That's what McSpadden used to call an FM12-CR.
Beautiful, as per the usual, Steve. Are you using one of your AKG 414 mics there? You have a pair, don't you? Are you mixing both of them with camera audio? Reason I ask, is that you're not close micing, but the sound is really sweet in its presence. Also - 2006 copyright? Is that the arrangement or the performance? Ya got me all confused, mon.
I improvised this arrangement for the most part. The mic is an AKG-414. I like this microphone about a foot out in cardoid pattern. It all depends on the room and the situation. Thanks for the comment! I'm answering this 15 years later! lol
@@stephenseifert I briefly considered not replying for at least a year, but figured I would just forget.
Stephen...what strings do you use and gauges? Thanks...for the video. Just beautiful playing.
I usually use 26, 16, 12. Sometimes 25, 15, 11. And even 24, 14, 10. Depends on the instrument and what I'm up to. On my DAA instrument, I'm currently using 26, 16, 16.
country roads
take me home
Oh take me away on your snow white wings!!!!!!
Who made your dulcimer?
That's what McSpadden used to call an FM12-CR.
Are you useing DAD tunning or DAA?
DAD. I do love DAA.
It's a McSpadden
Who. Made your dulcimer. I made many just like that one under Franklin dulcimer.
This is a McSpadden. It's what they used to call an FM12CR, I think. Also changed the strings to 26, 16, 12 and had a Nashville guy, Dan Blom, do the setup.

So beautiful
