Awesome video! I'll never forget my summer trip to NYC in 1991. It was even before the Giuliani era! He didn't take office until 1994. NY was so different them. Very grimy and dirty, but I still loved it. I had so many chances to visit the twin towers but never did so. What an idiot I was.

I went to New York City back in the late eighties, and got to go to the top of the Empire State Building and the South Tower of the World Trade Center. It's turned into a gentrified pile of shit. They've destroyed so much of the city's history. The Freedom Tower? 432 Park Avenue? Are you fucking kidding me.

Marc Cisneros Go fuck yourself. I'm a 37-year-old adult, goddammit! This country's gone to shit thanks to the goddamn fucking Democrats. I'm sure New York City's a great place to live - it's filthy and disgusting, and rundown, hyper-policed, with sky-high rent and taxes, and crime is through the roof. What's a pack of cigarettes going for in New York City these days? $15? What a fucking joke. Haha!

I rode the R62 cars on the (4) during those years, they were NEW to the (4) and officially made the (4) line a 100% graffiti free line.

Worked for NYC transit for only a few weeks in about 1985. Was station agent on F line underground in Brooklyn. Hours were from about 10:30 pm to about 6:30 am. At same time had a part time position in Manhattan with parking violations which started in am. Couldn't work that second shift without rest. A few months afterwards took a full time position with DMV and retired in May 2020. Always thought about being train operator.

@@ThatGuy-te9wh Sounds about right, but I think there was still a lot of graffiti in 1991. I'm a Staten Island guy (we don't have a subway here, just buses and Staten Island Rapid Transit) and I started riding the subway regularly to get to Brooklyn College in 1988. Definitely when I started commuting to school, the subways were still full of it, the cleanup must have been underway by '91, but I'm not sure if it was all gone yet then.

they started cleaning up the city by 1984. they removed all the rubble from the bronx and demolished damaged buildings. they left vacant lots filled with grass and they painted the ugly walls of those tenements standing around alone. arson stopped cause they changed some laws i think.
and they locked away the subway cars at night so they could clean the trains and keep them clean because no one was covering them in graffiti at night.
but the crime became worse and the city clean up only started with giuliani in like 1994/95.

I know this is 8 years old. Maybe you're dead. We all die but you're not replying correctly. The person will likely never see your reply comment because it's a new comment outside of the comment you meant to reply to
I think dying in a car crash is the kind of death I fear most. True, it could be quick and relatively painless but often your last moments are excruciatingly painful and stressful. What a terrible and sad way to go. Life

At 0:23 that was the last time for the GMC Fishbowl bus I think it retired 1994 or 1995 that's just my guess What about yours?

The official year was 1998. Many buses just leave NYC Transit 2-3 years prior. GMC RTSs retired in 2007 but left NYC Transit by 2005.
