You can hear the subway sounds in many scenes of the old Law and Order. Great how they made no effort to edit them out. Like the show, it's a part of the Big Apple!
This reminded me how loud the trains were as they were screeching to a stop back then. It also reminded me how creepy those billboards for CATS seemed to me.
Apparently the south side bridge tracks were "roadworthy" for use as late as 1993-94, given a movie ("Cowboy Way") shot an actual moving train of R40s on the south track.
diazjd93 - How do you get to that exact location? I've been wanting to find that green column canal station at the 9:15 mark. It's where the One In A Million album cover was shot. Is that the abandoned one you are talking about? I've seen a lot of abandoned station that people can still get to. Is that station in brooklyn?
Thank you for that. You nailed it with this video. For a very long time now, I’m looking for a video that captures the now abandoned platform of the Canal plus the passage connecting both semi-island platforms and also the 42 before the 90s renovation and ramps elimination. It looks so creepy and scary down there. I dont know how i ever took the subway back in the 1960s. I only took the E train at 7th Ave & i think it was 53rd Street, going back to Queens, when school day ended. The station was deserted. Someone was going to attack me, and i was so lucky the train came and i jumped on. My nerves were shattered for a long time after that. I think i was only 15.
0:47 Wow. Those are the abandoned tracks that I seen when I was a teenager, in either 1993 or 1994. I had never seen anything like that. It was just unused tracks with nothing but garbage on them. Then there were some metal beds with wheels that looked like they were meant to push items along the tracks.
I believe those tracks were out of service due to the infamous 90s reconstruction of the Manhattan Bridge which took about 10 years to finish. The tracks are now being used by the Q and N trains to get to Brooklyn.
The Canal Street platform on the Nassau Street line when you used to have the crossover at the south end of the station before the northbound platform was closed and the southbound platform became two-way.

Fred Luddy back in the day, the 1 had a skip stop service in the bronx. It was the 9 train and it ran the entire 1 train route with express service in the bronx. The skip stop service was discontinued in 2005, due to low ridership.
