I said this to some of my clan mates when we were running the new dungeon last night. Eververse is going to look like a lemonade stand in comparison to what NetEase is about to do. 😭
The idea of a brand new Destiny, pun intended, is the best thing about this game. Being a mobile game, made by NetEase, is enough of a red flag for me to never touch it unfortunately.
Remember that one video where he said he was going to get rid of this intro? And the next video (or few videos) it was gone, and then he brought it back? I 'member.
I respect you for framing it as a Destiny game for mobile players and not a mobile game for Destiny players. That is a very important difference. As for the game itself, I think it looks fine. These types of games generally are fun to play. I mean they have to have solid enough core mechanics to hook players enough so that they'll spend money on it. If I enjoy a mobile game I don't mind spending $10 here or there on stuff. It really just depends on how aggressive the micro-transactions are. If it pulls that junk of once you get so far into the game everything is locked behind gigantic cooldowns unless you pay to skip them them I'm out. But if you can dink and dunk with the game and not really have to spend anything outside of like a $10 battle pass... sure. Mobile Destiny sounds like fun.
Totally agree. I played ZZZ for almost 70 hours and never felt paywalled. I earned something like 180 pulls for event banners just by playing the game and even completed most of the end game content. I only spent $6 on it. Maybe I'm coping, but if D:Rising is anywhere near that fair I'll happily spend some money on it.
It’s because this isn’t for current Destiny 2 players. It’s for the Asian Markets where most people don’t have consoles or gaming PCs they have smartphones. I mean it’s Net-Ease ffs 😂
NetEase is one of the worst microtransaction/money grab developers of all time. This game has absolutely no chance of being anything other than a money sink.
I don’t know why people have been so taken aback by having the speaker say the word destiny. It was literally the first thing that we heard the speaker say in the opening cut scene of destiny. One, that it was our destiny to travel among the stars.
One thing people in the west fail to mention is that gambling is a part of a lot of modern Asian cultures (China, Japan, Korea, Sg, Indonesia). We, in the west, view it as something coming from the “greedy devs” trying to up the profits but in Asia it is actually something players desire a lot. Be it because of insane levels of stress due to overworking or whatever but it is undeniable that this desire exists. Even games without money involved gambling will have shit like randomized gachapon machines or whatever. Look at recent popularly of tcg store simulator among Asian streamers (yes, they open packs for hours on end in hopes of finding a super rare valuable card). I’m not trying to defend netease or tencent but gacha games are not going anywhere anytime soon as much as people in the west roll their eyes just hearing the word.
I used to think people were dramatic when they said things were "slop" but holyyy this is an insane decline for them, just ruining their IP in real time. This hurts as a fan lol
Its a gacha. They can call it whatever they want, it is what it is. A gacha destiny mobile experience. "Set number of playable hero characters" is the groundwork for one and they are just tiptoeing around it without blatently saying its a gacha.
Destiny is gacha. You just cannot pay to accelerate it, you pay in playing time as currency instead. Think about that, you grind for RNGesus to give you that one roll you want. That’s essentially a form of gacha. Gachapon is the same with D2 loot, the only different is that Gacha has bad luck protection limit and Destiny did not.
Good point about how risky it is for Bungie to hand out their IP to another company as anything controversial will probably be directed at them rather than NetEase. Reminds me a lot about how, to this day, most people think Metal Gear Rising (heh, rising) was directed by Kojima at Konami when in reality it was directed by Kenji Saito at Platinum Games.
I think you missed something. They said the game is based off of real Destiny lore, even if it is an alternate time-line. They're telling a Destiny story in their own way.
I'm actually fairly excited, I tend to play more cellphone games lately due to illness so this is kinda great for me. I don't think it will detract from the core game, in fact it's likely to bring in a whole host of new users which is exactly what bungie needs right now!
Tbh, I've played a fair bit of Diablo Immortal since getting myself a dedicated controller attachment for my phone (s24 ultra, if anyone cares) and haven't spent a dime, but its been a fun experience, so I'll definitely give Destiny Rising a shot
Look up Fate/Grand Order some time to see just how profitable a gacha game can be. Destiny Rising is probably closer to Genshin Impact than the more typical gacha game--just how close will depend on whether you actually pull for heroes. And yes, people will whale on these games. I recall interviews with some F/GO player who spent like $70k on the game. Oh, BTW, F/GO is published by Aniplex, a Sony company.
The easiest way to show bungie, Sony and net ease that you don’t like what they are doing with the game is to simply not play or spend money on the game. Now I know that’s hard for gamers to not rage on the internet an speak with their wallets but they can do it
I'm curious about it. A little bummed that it's an alternate timeline. Would have very much loved to see the lore to come to life. I dig some of the character designs, like that wolfhead ironlord and the demon exo with Izanagi. Gonna keep an open mind till it comes out.
Seems like a lot of people in the comments still don't understand that Bungie has very little to do with Destiny Rising. NetEase bought a license from Bungie in order to use the Destiny franchise to make a game. There's probably some cross over here and there to ensure the game isn't completely off the rails but this IS a NetEase game and NOT a Bungie game.
Some D2 players are going to download this game to get an emblem or whatever giveaway they do. I really hope those players are able to resist giving this mobile game all of their money. There is definitely a message of You Are Not Prepared that some Destiny players need to hear. Eververse will be nothing by comparison
Mythic weapons are likely to be the true Gacha. I'm betting it will copy the Diablo Immortal model. Run quick "Strikes" (2 min long) to get a chance of a Mythic drop. Spend to increase / guarantee drop chance.
I’m betting it will follow the Warframe / First Descendant model. They will keep introducing characters they can sell skins for along with upgrade materials, etc.

It looks so cool it makes me wish Sony dissolved Bungie and gave Destiny to a new studio with fresh ideas. Bungie hasn't surprised me with Destiny since 2014.

It would be cool if it wasn’t a hero shooter with premade characters. I don’t want to run strikes and raids as a guardian with an established backstory.

It looks good if you’re starving for something different from Destiny. However, gameplay wise and graphically, it looks exactly the same as what we have now. I get that people want Destiny as a franchise to have a “win” after so much garbage from Bungie over the last few years, but I don’t think this is it. Also keep in mind who this is for. NetEase is really good at making money, I just don't understand how the profit share works. How did it work with Diablo Immortals? Because this could be something that actually helps bungie, and hopefully generate money for D2.
7:20 yeah man, this will definitely be a grindy gacha game. Just like Genehin or First Descendant. There will be a way to grind out materials to build heroes or a way to grind out pulls for heroes and mythics, but if its taking too long, you can pay to get exactly what youre looking for. There is a group of people that will really be into this, but ill probably steer clear. The gameplay footage looks good though!
With Diablo Immortal, I have been having a good time and haven't felt a need to spend any money yet, and Im at level 55 or so. If I can get a similar experience with Destiny Rising, I'd be happy.
Small thing. I genuinely wish people would stop trying to push this completely bs angle that games only go 3rd person PURELY bc "ppl want to see their cosmetics". Might be impossible for you 1st person only andies to square away but yes, sometimes some of these studios DO elect to go 3rd person mainly bc it IS a comfort. & in a gaming space that is over saturated with fps titles (good ones at that), there is a full on wide open market for 3rd person titles to swoop in and clean house. Seriously. Way back in the ps2 era, I'm PRETTY sure capcom wasn't even remotely thinking about microtransactions (obv it wasn't a thing then) when they decided to build an entire Devil May Cry trilogy in 3rd person. Not every single practice NEEDS to be framed as a predatory practice. It should be harmless to just say you prefer 1st person or you don't like 3rd person...without the disingenuous framing looking to poison the well. & yes for those who don't understand messaging when they hear/see it...Paul constantly hammering home his point about the cosmetics is nothing more than his go to way to hand wave 3rd person as an option entirely. Because that's his go to way to discredit it. There always has to be a backhanded caveat with things he doesn't like, lol.
Super interested in seeing the pvp gameplay. I bet if this does well NetEase might even do a Battle Royale mode for this too. Third person really opens up the Destiny gameplay.
It could be the greatest game of all time but I won't be playing it as it's on mobile. For sure they will make a ton of money but in a lot of ways it could more or less kill Destiny. If they have two games running and one of them is printing money, how long before the other is dropped.
I dont know what a mobile game is, if not just a warning of hefty microtransactions. A game should just be a game. Is tetris a mobile game? I dont even know. The game looks cool and since its free to play I'll check it out, but just with all games today the purchasable items are totally overpriced. I firmly believe if thing in the eververse were cheaper, bungie would make more money by selling a higher volume.
I'm opting to look at this game from a glass half full angle. I hope the game is great and fun and not a microtransaction hell, but even if it is, hopefully Bungie is getting a good amount of money per sale the game makes of items and whatever they sell, and that money can then be put into Destiny proper. I'm also interested in what engine Rising is running on, as I can't imagine it's the Tiger. So I wanna see if the gameplay translates properly, especially if it has controller support.
What would be much different???? Destiny 2 already has pretty much a mobile model. Free to play, tons of micro transactions, nickel and dime everything they release. Do not see much different. Your already playing mobile just on console.
