I didn't know that. Haha, that helps explain the bad blood. It's been a long time though with different decision makers in place in a different time, so it doesn't necessarily mean they'll keep FSU out again.
The SEC’s most recent modus operandi is to pull new eye balls. New markets equal new money. The SEC has a team in South Carolina. From what I hear and can gather, they would want North Carolina, VaTech, possibly Miami for the recruiting and it being the whole other end of the state away from Flori-duh. The fourth team is the hardest one to figure. Possibly make a run at West Virginia because it leans heavy into the DC and Maryland market, or maybe Syracuse. They may stop at two more. Once the big 4 of the ACC, FSU,Clemson,Miami and North Carolina are gone, the Big 12 will pick the bones of what’s left and teams like Wake, Virginia and Syracuse could be on the outside.
Still not sure if Clemson will end up in the B1G, but they will be in the SEC or B1G. Miami and FSU are probably headed to the B1G. B1G should invite Clemson, Miami, UNC/GT, and FSU to create that southeastern pod. UNC? Interesting case there. Academically it will improve Clemson and FSU being in the B1G.
Miami NEEDS to get a B1G invite (and as an FSU fan I very much hope they do…and I think they will), because the harsh reality is that they just aren’t built for the SEC (I don’t mean in terms of talent or ability to achieve at the highest level, they most CERTAINLY can do THAT). This isn’t a knock or a dis, but unfortunately they just don’t have their own stadium or the rabid GameDay fan support that the SEC prides itself in having….additionally they hapoen to reside in the HEART of SEC recruiting, & I don’t believe the SEC would want to run the risk of bringing in a team that could immediately put a Berlin-type wall around South Florida (Bama, UGA, & UF still carry a majority of the weight & sway amongst conference members…they know all too well that allowing Miami to come into the fold would effectively be signing their own death warrants lol
@@seminoldschool7032 If I were FSU, I might not want MIAMI along with to the B1G. The pair would still be deep on a B1G island. MIAMI being private, a more national brand, and having a history of being a geo outlier as an indy and member of the BIGEAST will likely be able to handle that island. FSU is a public #2, and it's extended fanbase is far more regional, which will be harder to maintain relevant to FLORIDA.

@@rogerwalker3409 Nah. B1G interest in CLEMSON is very unlikely. Low brand inertia, non-AAAU, #2 in a small state, few synergies with just FSU. Absent being part of a much larger ACC bloc to the B1G, bad choice for both parties. The SEC in very unlikely to expand unless UNC is either secured or lost to the B1G. CLEMSON needs the synergies that SEC matchups bring to mitigate against its historical low brand inertia. In the end, CLEMSON wisely allies with UNC and both eventually go SEC. This is why I can see FSU leaving alone, but I can't see only FSU and CLEMSON leaving unless one or both are BIG12 bound.
What I don’t get is why EVERYONE willfully chooses to gloss over the fact that a “contract” is an agreement BETWEEN parties that promises BOTH will fulfill THEIR obligations…and I don’t know why EVERYONE keeps choosing to skirt past the part where FSU, Clemson, UNC, & a couple other ACC teams have argued that the “contract” is VOID becasue the ACC has NOT honored or fulfilled THEIR obligations. If you get married, get sick, your wife starts syphoning money out of your “mutual bank account” behind your back while fucking other men & you find out…you file for divorce (i.e. to break the contract) on account of HER violating the terms of agreement.
@@seminoldschool7032 If one party to a contract fails to fulfill their obligations, then they are in breach of contract. That's why if you are married and you cheat on your partner, you generally get a much worse settlement. Not only has the ACC failed to negotiate a favorable ESPN contract for its most profitable brands, it has: built a new conference headquarters in Charlotte, NC and mandated that the football championship game remains there too, while most, really all, non-revenue championship games will rotate between Raliegh, Cary (NC), Greensboro, Winston-Salem (NC) and various other North Carolina cities. That's ALL of THEM! The ACC is an academic/basketball conference, unequally (and possibly illegally) dominated by the State of North Carolina,. That's the position ACC leadership negotiates from. Meanwhile, we have the two Florida teams, an Atlanta team, two Virginia teams, and outliers like Syracuse, BC, SMU, Stanford and Cal, who get totally left out in the cold. What if the football championship rotated between Nashville, Orlando, and DC? Basketball could rotate between CLT, Greenville, SC, Greensboro and Asheville, NC. Richmond, VA and Norfolk, VA could host some Olympic sports, and other championship games could rotate through the Raleigh-Durham triangle, while adding Miami, NYC and Boston. Having the ACC men's basketball championship at Madison Square Garden? Hells yeah! but no, the ACC, regardless of maximizing the conference's TV deal is more interested in keeping NEARLY EVERYTHING in NC. Just another example of the ACC ignoring its fiduciary responsibilities. Clemson, FSU, Miami, Duke, UNC, NCSt, UVA, VATECH will find a better home, and BC, SYR, WAKE, GATECH, SMU, STAN, and CAL can stay, the ACC can add more crap teams like MEM, HOU, USF, or even VANDY if the SEC kicks them out. CLEM, FSU, UNC, NCSTATE (NC law says they have to be in the same conference) to the SEC, DUKE and MIA, to the B1G and VATECH and UVA to the Big12 (they have the same law as NC does.) The ACC survives as a mid-level Big12 lookalike, the teams that dominate the ACC get the money/ competition they deserve, and the B1G expands its footprint into the South with two excellent academic universities. Problems solved! and screw NC!
@@seminoldschool7032 Again with the marriage thing: If your wife is siphoning off your money and fucking the guy next door, she is IN BREACH of the marital contract, and when you file for divorce, you won't be giving her another dime. The point is, the ACC is the one screwing around on CU and FSU. They are not just banging one neighbor, they're banging UNC, WAKE, DUKE, and NCST on a rotating basis, along with the entire State of North Carolina. They have been operating under a policy of Soludatory Neglect outside of NC, and the top ACC teams have gotten fucked because of ACC negligence: 1. regarding the ESPN deal, 2. by adding nonsense teams, 3. focusing on basketball. In overt and covert action, and with malice aforethought, the ACC has routinely ignored the requirements of some signatories of this "contract," putting the ACC into overt non-compliance which should lead to the immediate annulment of the agreement, followed by a conference-wide vote on the membership of the ACC and its future direction. CU and FSU can get a no-fault divorce, along with UNC or MIA, and the rest can get the band back together, minus B1G and SEC-bound teams, or whatever the fuck they want to do. The point is, that the Grant of Rights is unenforceable and the entire agreement is null and void due to ACC machinations. Clemson made a good point in their lawsuit, that if a team leaves the ACC, and is no longer affiliated with it, then the ACC has no standing to confiscate home game revenues through 2036. If the divorce is finalized, your wife can't return for half of your vacation home in a year. Whew...

@@saturdayswarriorbyu There’s an article about it at Clemson’s website (the university). They’re planning on getting AAU membership within 10 years. Interestingly, it came out maybe 2 weeks before FSU’s lawsuit. Nobody hates Clemson except SCAR. Clemson is more of an annoyance to FSU. No to the title as well. Clemson may not be a great fit for the B1G, but they are a natural fit for the SEC and would add value.
"Clemson is more of an annoyance to FSU?" I think beating FSU 9 games in the last 10 years would be more than an annoyance. Miami would be an annoyance, but Clemson is a little more than that for FSU. I agree that we don't hate each other, but besides Fla, no one really hates FSU. Meanwhile, UGA and Clemson have hated each other since the 1980's. Clemson and UGA are also the closest major teams in college football, with Clemson being closer to Athens than Columbia, Knoxville or Tallahassee. Clemson has 6 CFP appearances since it was created. Know who has more? ALA, with 7. Clemson's "bad" year in 2023 included beating Notre Dame and beating 2 SEC schools to finish the year 9-4. Also, USC is a shite school in the middle, literally, of nowhere. Clemson is closer to UGA than Columbia is to, well Orangeburg. Clemson's media footprint includes the Atlanta, Greenville, and Charlotte markets. This year's Clemson/UGA game at Mercedes-Benz in ATL will be sold out and a big ratings success. UGA/USC, which SCar considers their "big" SEC rival, would draw UGA and USC fans, but not nearly as many college football fans as the Clemson game will. The point is that USC is not FLA. Their location doesn't improve the SEC's footprint, but Clemson, and FSU, would. Along those lines, do you need two teams in Mississippi? Alabama? Tennessee? Texas? It actually seems like having 2 teams per state is the norm in the SEC. Adding Clemson, in the Upstate of SC, and FSU, in the panhandle of FL, would make more sense than adding absolutely any other ACC school; sure UVA and UNC are pretty to look at, but the SEC doesn't need any more Vandy's.
I agree that the argument in favor of adding Clemson and FSU is that they will draw ratings, even if they don't get you into new states. At this point, media is pretty much all national anyway.
I don't see the B1G taking anymore teams till the next media deal in 2030. Fox just bumped up the current media deal to add Wa/Or and apparently weren't thrilled about it. So even if they begrudgingly did it again to add a couple ACC schools, it wouldn't be anymore than they gave last year for Wa/Or which is half shares till 2030. Seems like from what I'm hearing from ACC fans is that's not something they are interested in, so it's ESPN right? Yeah I'm sure ESPN would like 2-4 of the top ACC schools, but they also are in the middle of their media deal in the SEC, although if the aren't paying the ACC deal they would have extra money, but knowing that ACC teams need homes ESPN could low ball and offer partial shares, they have all the leverage in that case.
If any school becomes available that both the SEC and B1G want, neither can risk a delay or a partial share offer. I suspect that both the SEC & B1G have already prepared to act immediately upon such a contingency.
The Big12 should make a play for FSU and Clemson even if it means paying them equal to SEC/B1G. Doing so you make a stronger case for getting a much bigger chunk of the playoff money. FSU and Clemson would still keep their baseball in the south and Big12 basketball would still be better than the SEC/B1G. With that said, I'd still rather play a B1G schedule even if the money was the same. WVU would be the only team I'd strongly want to play, followed by TCU, Ok State, Utah.
How would the big12 do that? You think the current schools in the big12 would take not just less by cutting the pie in more pieces, but you want FSU and Clemson to get bigger pieces? In what crazy world would the school Presidents in the big12 ever decide to do that? They just got rid of Texas and your trying to create another one? I'm not even sure if Texas got a bigger distribution cut, other than the Longhorn network. Anyways, that would never happen because current schools won't take less to add schools and giving new schools more would just create animosity and after a few years those schools jump to the P2 anyways.
Interesting idea I hadn't heard thrown out there, but I agree it seems unlikely. But I like the concept of the Big 12 being aggressive in getting schools instead of waiting for whoever falls to them.
@@troywest7045 In hindsight, the Big12 should have done that for UT and OU, but I don't know if that option was given or if it would have made a difference. Once the big 4 of the ACC, FSU,Clemson,Miami and North Carolina are gone, the Big 12 will pick the bones of what’s left and teams like Wake, Virginia and Syracuse could be on the outside.
I think you're on the right track. It's hard to say, because there are so many ways it could shake out.
That's what makes this so hard to predict. There are good cases for and against just about any school.

The SEC in very unlikely to expand unless UNC is either secured or lost to the B1G. CLEMSON needs the synergies that SEC matchups bring to mitigate against its historical low brand inertia. In the end, CLEMSON wisely allies with UNC and both eventually go SEC.

They are not just banging one neighbor, they're banging UNC, WAKE, DUKE, and NCST on a rotating basis, along with the entire State of North Carolina. They have been operating under a policy of Soludatory Neglect outside of NC, and the top ACC teams have gotten fucked because of ACC negligence:
1.
regarding the ESPN deal,
2.
by adding nonsense teams,
3. focusing on basketball.
Whew...

Also, it could take time for all of this to play out. Maybe it takes a few years and the financial situation is different for the networks too.
Weren't thrilled? Fox is the one that wanted it to happen!

FSU & Notre Dame to the Big 10 . Notre Dame stays Independent, it’s North Carolina. Clemson only shot is the Big 12 , but we will take Pitt & Louisville first. No Conference is going to PODS
If Clemson doesn't get an invite to the P2, I can't see the Big 12 passing on them.
a) How is ND mobile prior to 2036?
b) Why would CLEMSON go to the BIG12 if ACC depletion is lite? Or PITT & L'VILLE?
What a joke! There's a reason Clemson and FSU are the only schools suing and being countersued by the ACC. They both are sure they have landing spots in the B1G or SEC. B1G isn't going to add one Florida team by itself, with the next closest one being in Happy Valley. Clemson and FSU are a package. If the B1G is so concerned with academics, why didn't they scoop up Stanford? Because they have a football team that was the Wake Forest of the PAC12. Same with Cal, great school, Silicone Valley. B1G passed. Why? No football. UNC has been cheated for and advertized for and coddled by the ACC for 50 years. The truth is, UNC isn't even the best school in the ACC. Not even close. Besides basketball, fencing, dressage, and such, what does UNC bring to the table? Hell, even South Carolina fills up their 80,000-seat stadium, and they're historically terrible. BIG12!! ROFL!!
