@@spencersmattress Having watched your super videos, I was able to find a mattress which seems to fit my difficult needs and IS TUFTED - the only one in the store! The other aspect to making a comfy bed, is the bedding - we discovered having too tight sheets & protectors ends up cancelling out the mattress's design qualities. We ended up with a bamboo electric blanket & using a king fitted sheet as a protector, on my queen mattress, to allow the mattress to do its job. Elec blanket manufactures still need to make them with deeper skirts! Thanks for all your helpful advice.

Would you tuft a pocket coil mattress or just for innerspring mattresses?
I wish I lived in CA, but live in Pa. I am looking at Schiffman mattress, a hand tied, tufted mattress. It sounds like this would be a better choice than a continuous coil not tied mattress. What do you think?
Had our Shiftman for 10 years and love the construction. It is just too HOT and very hard. Tried everything to soften it up and sleep cooler by even adding a Latex topper, but have to try to find a softer mattress. But gotta love the construction. Even after 10 years, can not see any wear, sinkage on the mattress. Edge support was great! Good luck..

does tufting make a mattress feel firmer ?
Typically yes, depending on the length of the tuft cord. If done properly it will make bed feel firmer because it is compressing materials inside. Some tufts are more cosmetic and aren’t compressing the materials as much and wouldn’t but then there isn’t much value in tufting. Tufting will increase the length of use of the mattress. @@Emdsd45T great question! Absolutely, moisture getting through the top layers can break down polyurethane foam layers. Mattress encasement helps the top layers last longer by helping to avoid moisture getting into the top layers but won’t help the mattress core last longer. Thanks for commenting!
