I used to work in a factory that made this foam in this exact process. It looks like the chemical formulation has changed over the years, as previously, the gases given off as the foam expanded were toxic and you needed to wear breathing apparatus, even when loading them for storage. The buns of foam would off-gas for at least three hours before you could touch them and even then you'd still need to give it a day before you cut them. Interesting to see the band slitter doing its thing. I don't miss the band knives though - those things scared the heck out of me. A blade snapping was always damn risky and it was very easy to find yourself getting on the wrong side of the blade. One wrong move and fingers or limbs could be badly cut.
You probably worked with TDI based foam. It off gases more because of the higher vapor pressure and higher index where the polyol is the limiting reactant. I worked with band saws for over 13 years, haven't seen any accidents yet... I think just using common sense safety practices around band saws will prevent most accidents from happening.
I bought a solid memory foam mattress..... Amazing. Then I discovered that solid memory foam pillows are sold.... Solid foam, not chopped up foam. Wow, I love my pillow.
