For what it's worth I'm a +1 and decided to get a set of JPX 921 Hot Metal Pro's just to have fun with. I don't think the short irons in the set get enough credit for being very playable and it's nice to have a "relaxing" set that you can still score with. I wouldn't recommend them to better players as an only set, but they're a ridiculous amount of fun to play regardless.
Completely agree! I was giving more of a fitters advice than anything. I used game improvement clubs for a good year before switching to my TaylorMade's and part of me slightly regrets it. As you said, the Mizuno's are a lot of fun to play with and you're spot on, every time I hit them on the range/course they're very enjoyable.
I am a 9 handicap and did not enjoy the P790 but hit the HMP with steelfiber I 95 stiff and love them with amazing consistency.. The feel of the Mizuno was soooo much nicer as well
Ive been playing the 790's for 2 years now and have ordered the 2021's ( arrive Sept 6th !!!! ) I just cant see switching to anything else for the foreseeable future ,, I play off of an 9 and its just such a good all round iron , fade , draw , low , high , distance its got it all ,, great comparison ! I think you nailed it !
I've been playing the first ones since they came out and Just switched to the 2021. Are they not like butter? Absolutely incredible irons. Hope you enjoy them 😀
Politely disagree- I’m an 8 hdcp and was just fitted. Hit a wide variety of club heads and came down to P790 and the JPX Pro- the TM felt just like my old Callaways while the Mizuno felt a step above in feel, style, and shot options.
Thank you for making this video as I am in between purchasing the two sets. What would you recommend for someone of a hand here maybe 30 to 33 not much of a golf player but can hit straight ? I’m leaning towards the Mz non pro.. Thank you
So the Mizuno has less offset than the P790 ? We’re you hitting the p790 left due to the amount of the offset ? I notice in mid to short irons that have a lot of offset it causes me to miss approach shots left .
Ah good spot just noticed that i said two different things! The Mizuno has slightly more offset but there's not too much in it. Personally I like how they look for long-mid irons but I would be put off them for short irons.
790s have less offset for sure, I have the standard 919 hot metals and hate the offset. Bent them 2* weak to do away with it but my miss is a hooping push draw
the mizunos don’t have the spin of a less forgiving iron, but boy they are so forgiving. When you’re playing a course that hasn’t seen rain in a while, it becomes tricky to hold greens at times. That’s the tradeoff in my opinion

Would JPX 921 Forged not be a better option to compare to the 790?
I was coming on here to comment the same thing...pretty poor comparison decision
Definitely, some comparisons make no sense whatsoever
No, I disagree. The 790 is a hollow head , spring face, power loft, high launch low spin distance iron. Which is the same as the mizuno.
Would love to see a comparison video between the mizunos in this video vs the Srixon zx7s
I just got rid of a set of P790s for JPX 923 Hot Metal. I liked the p790 but the feel was very bland.

Went to get fitted and thought I would get the mizuno, but the p790 won hands down for me. Waiting to get them in a week or teo
I have the JPX 921 HMP and just ordered the 2021 P790 so I’m super excited for this video !

I'd go Mizuno as well
Sad the P790’s don’t go as far which makes sense more loft. But in the long run P790 will be better.

I think I noticed less backspin too. But seems like more side spin than my AP1s. Weird.
P790s. Picked up the 2021 version and never looked back.
New aub, great video’s! Ordered my new p790, hope to recieve them in november 😃
is the hot metal pro like a srixon zx5?
I would probably be looking at the JPX forged v. P790.
v. Apex v. T200 v. ZX7..........
Our most requested was the P790 vs the HMP hence the video. I do agree that the JPX Forged is very similar as well though, especially in design!
Should have been the 921 forged for a better comparison.
Went from AP2s to Mizuno Hot Metals, greatest choice I’ve made
Great choice!
Assisted me in making a decision to try Mizuno out
Happy to help Harry! You're in good hands with Mizuno
How a bout p770 vs p790 2021? Can you do peak height, spin, and distance?
It's on the way, keep your eyes peeled on our channel in the next couple of weeks!
I decided to do a split set with 4 5 6 p790, 7 8 9 P770 best of both
P790 looks unbelievable
I went with the 921’s … feel and you can still work the ball a bit even with the forgiveness….
Good choice!
Man… I just got a brand new set of JPX 921 HMP want to get the p790s too
Both great sets! You'll do well with the HMP's
I have hit both the p790 feels like a brick but it does goes further than the mizuno that I bought sorry taylormade further doesn’t always mean better
It feels like a brick to you because the mizuno is a game improvement iron. The tm is not and is heavier.
Speak for yourself. Them 790’s feel like butter!!
totally different shafts?
Mizuno all the way 🫡
good choice!
If the cavity said “FU you suck” and you couldn’t see it at address, would that matter?
..yes
