    I have/had this exact one, excellent intro into polytunnels, certainly great value, and tbh the frame is excellent, the cover not so much .
    After 3 yrs the cover gave up, and im now in the process of converting it into a full "traditional" poly.

      We are doing something similar, as we have moved house and when we reconstruct it we figured we would use the higher quality covering. 👍

      @@binanocht6110 Brand is a bit hard to pin down as they are just repackaged chinese ones, so you will find the same model under several different "brands". If you have the plastic, you can often find the frames going for free on local market places or just ask if anyone has one they dont want.

    Which part of the UK are you in, do you get heavy snow and can this polytunnel withstand it? I'd like to buy a budget one but we get heavy snow in winter here sometimes and last year we got a lot of heavy snow and it squashed an admittedly rather flimsy makeshift mini plant tunnel I made using fleece and plastic piping.

      What did you do with the flappy bits of the cover?

    • @Simon_J_Hodge_Outdoors
      @Simon_J_Hodge_Outdoors 3 роки тому +1

      I haven’t sorted them as yet. Was waiting to decide. I think what I’m going to do is lift the top layer of turf and put gravel on top of them and then extend the gravel out the front of the poly tunnel as the ground is getting messy at the door so needs something more durable

    • @SelfSufficientHub
      @SelfSufficientHub  3 роки тому

      @@Simon_J_Hodge_Outdoors sounds like a good idea, you could even extend the gravel to form irrigation to water your crops as it will be acting like a gutter on your polytunnel

    Helpful video thanks. About to get my first one for my allotment , arriving Friday. I'd planned to put no dig beds in mine and cable tie the frame to the beds to help weigh it down, what do you think? Also, did you take the cover off yours over winter because of heavy wind, rain, snow? Cheers!

    I think it depends on how long between the chickens leaving and the planting starting. You will have a high concentration of fresh chicken manure which may be too fresh. They do a great job of scratching the surface and fertilising but need a period of time before I would plant directly into it. Otherwise a great video

    • @SelfSufficientHub
      @SelfSufficientHub  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks Colin!
      I know it’s not ideal. We have added a good 3-4 inches of compost on top so hopefully we will get away with it.
      It will be about two months between chickens and planting 🤞

    I've got the same polytunnel and have a real struggle putting it together. With the top bars I can't get the holes to align - did you have issues with that and if so, how did you resolve it? Also, I can't find anywhere for the door support (the 2 pieces that have flattened ends) to attach it to, there are no holes etc. to anchor them to. So frustrating. Otherwise your video was great :-)

    • @SelfSufficientHub

      For the holes not aligning maybe twisting the frame diagonally will help? Good luck

      Hi, this - “Polytunnels are constructed from galvanised steel hoops and tightly covered with clear or diffused plastic. ... Greenhouses utilise an aluminium or metal frame glazed with glass or polycarbonate plastic.” Is the first google result from a search of ‘difference between greenhouse and polytunnel’ that I get.
      Things maybe vary around the world but where I am from this is most definitely not a greenhouse.
