Self Sufficient Hub
United Kingdom
Приєднався 15 вер 2019
I’m Carl and I live in the south of the uk. My family and I moved to our house in the summer of 2018 and are working towards self sufficiency. Join me as I learn to raise livestock and crops, and learn alternative and forgotten ways to make food and earn money from the garden and countryside.
I will over time cover foraging for mushrooms, raising meat animals and butchery, cheese making, food preservation and forgotten skills among many other things.
Thanks for coming on my journey with me.

Hello, thank's you, this yoghurt maker, is interresting with "yoghurt' of Dr Davis William that need 36h and 100°F (with L Reteuri +++ if you make SIBO yoghurt)
I can't wait to grow these! Thank you for sharing!
What are the chapters called and why
What sort of thickness/size wood did you use for the door posts?
Thank you! I've just made some cheese yesterday and had a gallon of whey left, so I am really excited about this. I am literally wating for the whey to reduce right now. Instead of white sugar I am using coconut sugar, so let's see how it will turn out :)
Those ducks are going to be shitting green for sure. You need some sort of filter to get rid of a lot of that algae or the ducks will get sick.
I made it with WoodPrix instructions !
I just got some pesto made from wild garlic, just amazing. I wish I could grow it here on my arid tropical garden
If you eat it will it take your stuffy nose away
Most helpful video o have found! Thank you
i am off to the new Forest tomorrow for a mushroom hunt|
Thank you for this video 🤩 . Im not too nervous about doing it. 😅 You made it look so easy to do . 🫢 I’m done eating vaccined chickens 😆
Thank you for this video 🤩 . Im not too nervous about doing it. 😅
Thanks!
God bless ❤
What about bleeding the bird?
Thank you. I have a bird that somehow has a double split in its bottom beak.😢
You can keep all of your meat it will be so full of chemicals.
These started popping up in my garden bed - glad they're a bonus treat! Thanks for making this
I found this plant in my yard today. North Arkansas, USA. Excited to learn about it.
Hey Carl hope your doing ok. ❤
Excellent video, thanks
I know it's been 2 years. But, great video. The bag with water to keep the cabbage under the water level is spot on. Now I don't need to buy the glass weights. Thanks Dave
I use a stove top pot, rubber spatula, a mason jar, a microfiber towel and a rubber band. Then whole milk and dry yogurt starter.
Hi can you tell me untill what temperature can we set it as maximum please 🙏
It says 43C +-2C
It grows everywhere there is people because the seeds/spores stick to our shoes or something, and they thrive in the compact dirt we make when we populate a place
I culture mine for 24 hours to eliminate lactose. Some bacteria, like L. reuteri, are cultured for 36 hours. You need to put it in the fridge after culturing to thicken it up. If you want it even thicker, you can filter the whey out. This machine looks like the Ultimate Yogurt Maker.
Just made a hearty chinese pork soup with them. :)
Me and the beautiful Lady Pilzy have been spotting, but not potting, mushrooms for a few years now. What a great hobby. Go for a lovely stroll, out in the Cornish countryside, with the added bonus of getting excited as we go "off trail" in search of fungi! WOW, one of the old mine workings nearby to us was profuse with dinner plate sized Fly Agarics, absolutely stunning!!! Anyhoo, whilst out for a late evening through to dusk stroll on Sunday night we spotted several growths of porcelains. Other than being spellbound by their beauty, we had zero clue as to what they were. Your video, along with Wild Foods UK's, has taught us that they were porcelains, and, this evening, after the slave race, we shall venture forth to harvest some, and, hopefully some Amethyst Deceivers, and enjoy our first ever forage. Ain't life great!?
Is this Hypholoma capnoides? If so, it's classified as edible in Norway
I would wash new jars before use.
They have suddenly appeared on a dead tree stump in our local park. Causing quite a stir. 18th October 2024😊
November 13,2024 here in north Florida. Just noticed them yesterday. Interesting where are you.? Have a great day.
I would keep 1 rooster for my hens so I can grow my flock.
Have you heard of anywhere in North Wales that have these? My little boy has wanted to go for so long. We've watched your videos. 👍
What if you used 18% coffee creamer?
Get your animals lick honey off of you & equipment, if possible, it's good for them too, rather than down the sink. In America I heard they use honey in wound care. Thanks for inspiration👍
Mushroom man👍 How long do they keep dried? 1, 2, 3 years? Or do you throw them away after 1 year? And re-stock?
Does it lather?
How long does the soap stay good?
So after everything is finished, the final product will be alcoholic ?
They they they wts the name name name
Where are you?
At what age do you dispatch your birds?
Great job!!!
I saw a bird get hit by a car and had to dispatch it quickly. Thank you for the helpfull video
Is it better to do this in the spring, summer, fall.
id want alternative to concrete as much as the plastic tbh
I have been making cheese kefir for two months and using it for a baked cheesecake without a base. I found the recipe on YT under Sernik (Polish cheesecake). Delicious.
Thank you for this. We ended up with a mean rooster so this video was really helpful
