I've never lived with roomates before. I did not know about the roommates and their backgrounds before I moved in March. I did meet them. One a woman who has been incarcerated several times is very controlling of the kitchen. And someone told me that because of their confined space in prison and that's their cell they live in, they could be very controlling of their space. She leaves no room for me to cook and is annoyed when I'm in the kitchen. She's constantly complaining. Yesterday she said somebody turned down the thermostat on the refrigerator. I didn't even know where the thermostat was. But she did overload the refrigerator and I said if you overload the refrigerator the lack of air flow will ice up the food. As she was complaining the eggs were frozen. I just moved in and it's complaining non-stop with her. The owner doesn't have beef with me but I am ready to move out unfortunately because of this roomates negativity and bad behavior. How would you handle this situation?
It's too bad how our justice system can ruin people's lives and make them worse than perhaps some other ways of teaching people how to follow the rules and laws of the land. It's so sad. And then how can you handle it: the way they have become because of being locked-up with no where to go but in the prison they are in? So sad. All you can do is pray for them, and if done correctly God will help and fix them. I guess this is why it is said somewhere in scriptures that we should visit those in prison... because it is a brutal place to spend time, a place created by people that is to say other flawed people. It's so sad. So in answer, how to fix them? You can't, but you can pray and let God fix them.
I'm pianist so i have my fellow coworkers (musicians) over to practice and therefore mention to my potential roommates that they must be ok with random music practices before moving into my house.
Hi, I just recently rented out master bedroom to a lady that seems sweet. However her little dog has separation anxiety and wakes me up every morning by his barking. We work different shifts. Tonight I come home and shes put out a lamp and pictures of her kids in my living room and the flower pots that I had there are gone. While that in itself isn't a big deal, I feel like if I don't say something she's gonna take over the whole house. I'm renting her a room, the biggest room in the house. Feel like her personal items should be there.She is welcome to use the common areas. Any suggestions as to how to approach this? I'd like to keep it positive. Thanks.
Hi Shell, that can be tricky, but I would definitely be upfront with her (in a friendly way) and set boundaries, like you said, so it doesn't get out of hand. Remind her she's renting a room, not the entire house, so she can decorate the room, but not the other areas. I would definitely do it in person so there's no confusion about your tone (sometimes it can become passive aggressive if it's just written notes). Good luck!
mine had the house super clean to show me before I moved in. As soon as I moved in, she started having moldy food in the fridge, dirty dishes piled up in both of the sink, treated me with disrespect and hostility, and moved out because I dared to confront her, leaving me to be responsible for the whole rent and bills, though originally she told me she was gonna be here for many years, or at least December this year. I'm still recovering from the shock. Today I found moldy coffee filter in the coffee maker she left behind, even though I clearly told her I didn't want it. I don't know why this is all happening to me. I thought I was a nice, clean, and friendly person that everybody liked
Me and my bestie live together and she does the cooking i do the cleaning and if we are washing clothes we wash each others clothes we also share everything- btw I love this video it helps us as we might get a new roommate

You either have the greatest friends in the world or I have the worst because we couldn’t agree on anything🤣😳 A friend of mine does actual sit down interviews with clipboard checklist in hand and once had me sit in on one so that I could judge the person by gut reaction🤷🏻♂️
Not agree, there must be order, set a day for laundry to each roommate, if you’re going to be “flexible” then it’s going to be a mess due a lot of ppl nowadays feel entitled so easily, there’s ppl that goes to work at 5:00am, why he should wait till other roommate that is jobless at home all day finish using the washer/drier
Advice for living with multiple roommates that never clean? When we moved in we didn't set standards. But I'm not kidding they never vaccum or mop. There is moldy food, etc. How would I go about having them help? I've asked and they don't do anything
Hi Jayson, that sounds awful. I’d have them sign a rule agreement and have consequences if they don’t follow the roommate rules, like having them have to pay for someone to come in and clean. Or you could hire someone to come clean and split the cost.
Oh my gosh! Get out of the F bathroom!! Three girls to one bathroom and we have one roommate who constantly commandeers the bathroom for at least an hour or more when taking a shower. Of course this happens either late at night or early in the morning when people also want to grab a shower or worse, people need to go to the bathroom!! Soooo F frustrating!! Let’s also talk about roommates who never buy shared supplies like paper towels, trash bags, plastic wrap, etc. Don’t use those supplies if you’re not going to help buy more!! Nobody has the money to be paying for you too! If we had that kind of money, we wouldn’t be renting and dimming with others! Pay your own way and do your part! Also, don’t hog the whole Dmnd refrigerator and kitchen!!
