SHELL SHOCK - Moving from a Northern state to Florida

- There are so many differences when moving from a northern state to Florida. So many in fact that you can become overwhelmed. It is like a whole new world. Do you really live here, or is this just a vacation? When we moved to Florida, we were "shell shocked". Everything was so much different than what we were used to. Tonight Lindsey and I sat down and discussed some of the things that made us feel that way.

I’m wanting to make the transition from Nashville to the Tampa area next summer and I’m glad I have videos like these to help me make my decision.

The jobs and the job market in general was the first thing I noticed. In the northeast people work food service or a grocery store as a starter job. In FLA people are doing them as careers I see middle aged people at Publix. They had a Wawa job fair the other day near me

So glad I found this channel for our move from north to Florida.I remember in the 80s at 20 yrs old moving first time ever from North to Texas 980 miles away from everyone I knew and family it was like a culture shock it does take a little bit to adjust to new surroundings and boy did I ever get homesick but we both adjusted nicely
Winters sucks even more when you have kids under the age of 8 and it gets dark at 4pm and freezing cold days! I heard the FLA Summers are bad but I take that over the cold any day!

i completely understand about the medical stuff. my SO had a kidney transplant and has to get routine blood work and up north he could go anytime to the hospital (they had standing order) and get his blood work drawn. we moved from NY to SC and were shocked to find out the transplant doctors here will not see him because they didnt do the transplant. The nephrologist is not comfortable treating him so we are still trying to work that out. definitely frustrating.
Why is it that way? Where I live you go in and get blood work then sit in waiting room for a bit then you see the doctor and go over the results... In and out about an hour...

Your videos are awesome! We’re in the beginning stages of making the transition to Florida from Philadelphia. My wife and I plan to by down there at the end of 2021, or early 2022. I’m in law enforcement and I’m gonna make sure I find employment before we move. Your videos have really helped us and have definitely eased the tensions or making such a big move! Thanks 😊

Guys this was a great vlog with excellent perspective and delivery: So natural, honest, enlightening and true. I remember when I was on the other side of things, when we came down to visit my parents and we were the ones who had to go back. Well....NOT ANYMORE!! That last Thanksgiving trip on the road back, we were like, that's it. We're selling the house. By the way, we just celebrated our 1 year down here, so right there with you. Really enjoyed this:)

I will have a lot of those rush moments because my husbands parents are moving to Florida before we do and my parents are staying in Ohio. I will be calling or texting them all the time and wanting them to come visit at least once a year.

Love your channel! I'd like to know all about critters, lol! Alligators (are they in the ocean often?) , spiders, lizards, snakes - walking at night are you wary of them, are you afraid to let your kids run around freely outside because of them, anything else poisonous … The other concern is sinkholes. Thanks!

Wisconsin!!! (I just heard that in that 70's show sound in my head). Native Flitters, ROFL. In Texas we have 10 pleasant months to be outside, and then we hide indoors in July and August. at 9:30 in the video, all I could think was...... STOP, she's going to deck you. Florida drivers are pretty crazy.

Actually I live in Rhode Island and I’ve had to go to a different lab a few times when I had to get blood work but idk why it’s like that lol

My 16 yr old wants to move to Florida for college, but I think she will think it’s vacation! Would LOVE to go eat at Disney! It would be pricey! I think I would gain crazy weight! Interviews can go like that in Utah. I wonder if that hospital has to send everything out. Depending on the hospital in Utah, it could take that long, I’m a nurse practitioner, I do get it we get our labs within hours. At Disney for sure mostly tourists!

I love this! I am originally from New York, I’ve lived in Orlando several times and I’m planning my move back in two months! It’s so amazing the staggering differences between the north and south. Another one then I’m not sure Wisconsin might have, is that in New York it’s impolite to call someone ma’am it’s sarcastic versus in the south it’s a form of politeness for seniority? Have you guys experienced this?
