- Moving to a different state can be expensive. In this video we discuss all of the costs associated with moving to Florida. We based this scenario on a family of four moving from the Midwest or northeast with two cars. These are just our estimations. Please do your own research so that you are ready for all of the expenses that you will incur on your move.
Drop a comment down below if we missed anything, or if you found different numbers than what we came up with. We would love to hear it!

I had moved from Maine to Florida with my car full of my belongings. I sold everything before. I bought all new furniture at IKEA when I arrived., totalling about $1000. It was only myself moving so my costs moving with gas, food, tolls and 2 nights in motel was about $550. I did entire move with purchasing belongs, registering car and $300 deposit for electric was under $3k. I had a nice apartment in a gated community and didnt have to put a deposit down. I was very lucky😁
For sure 😁
Did you ever regret it? What year was it?
@@MOBU76
No regrets we have lived here since February 2019
What does it cost to register a car?
I think to register in fla. It was like $350-$380ish. A licence was like $55. But registration is over a year so its average. The insurance however yikes!
Luckily my wife and I were able to transfer our jobs. That was one big plus. Secondly, we had about $10K saved. Our move cost around $6,500.00 and that’s being generous. The apartment wanted 1st month rent plus security deposit so that was $2,600.00. The moving truck was $4,000.00 and some change. Moving from Ohio to Florida was grueling but worth it when I never need my snow shovel or ice scraper again.
Over estimate is right! The little things add up fast. Great video guys.
Planning a move to Florida May 2021 from Denver! I’ve been following you guys from the beginning and you’ve helped so much in my planning for the move!
Wife and I lived in Colorado for a year and moved back to FL recently. Love your state but too cold 🥶. Welcome to FL!
Must be a reoccurring theme I plan on moving from Denver to the Tampa area around December of this year.
Have you guys been to FL in the summer time? Lol. The constant heat and humidity here makes it miserable for about 4-5 months of the year! Not trying to be negative. Just saying! I would come experience it first. I HATE FL summers!! Everyone does! Traffic is also horrendous and most people are unfriendly and rude!! This is your warning lol. I am originally from MI and lived here for 14.5 years. I want to move elsewhere like possibly Tennessee.
I’m moving from Denver to Florida in June 2021!!! 😊
@Keagan Gracy I may be as well! moving from Aurora
Thinking of moving with my husband and our two kiddos to Florida from New Hampshire and watching your videos is giving me some perspective :)
Great informative video! I think the numbers you gave are very realistic and spot on. We moved from NY to SC and that is about what we spent. Only thing I regret is not decluttering enough. We moved so much junk that we should have just gotten rid of. Lesson learned for the next move. 😎🌴
Seems like we’re getting rid of stuff all the time! I think that’s a common moving problem no matter where you move.
We can't wait to live there. We're counting down the days. 😊
Same!
The public utilities payment history was an excellent tip!
It is truly amazing the cost of relocation when all the little things add up. Thanks for the insight!! SW Florida 2020 🤘🏻
We will be moving when I get done with my Engineering Technology degree. Probably 2 more years! We are using this time to cut out debt and save money! I love all of your videos, I’ve been watching with my notepad and pen taking notes! Thank you for making these!
anyone can move to florida with an income tax I moved there in 2012 with $800 and two kids I moved to california in feb 2020 with $6k with faith and prayer everything falls into place
I’m praying too leaving things in Gods hands
Man I needed to hear that fr I'm ready to get out of illinois texas or florida fr
Thank you for the information, I’m moving to Florida and gives me ideas how much money to spend
New to your channel. We moved from CA to FL last year, we used unpack, it was cheaper than renting a uhaul, pods, etc. We don’t have any small children anymore, but we have 2 dogs and 1 cat. Our drive across country 3k miles took 6 days because of the stops we had to make with the animals, plus food, lodging and finding lodging that accepted animals. It was an adventure, not drama free. We were towing our 2nd car and someone rear-ended and totaled that car when we were in TX. We had to drive the rest of the way with that car…ugh. I would say total cost for moving was 10k…easy. My hubby is retired and I was able to transfer with my current job as I work remote. We paid cash for our house and we love it. Before moving here, make sure you check out the neighborhoods first. Our realtor was very helpful in getting the house that checked off the majority of our requirements.
Welcome to our channel! And welcome to Florida and thanks for sharing your story! Sorry to hear about your car!!!
Thanks for the info I was looking everywhere just to see how much it would cost me to move. This gave me confidence I’ll be able to do it next year 🎉
Eric Evolving brought me here. Love your channel. I've been a subscriber for about a month now and your channel is really growing. I am planning on moving to Florida after I receive a job offer; hopefully more sooner than later. It's both scary and exciting considering It will only be me and my middle school aged son, but change is good. As long as I continue to do my research and follow good advice to prepare myself, it should make for a smooth transition. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for the breakdown of the prices. It was so meticulous and very helpful!
Thank you for all the videos. I am a single mom of 4! We are moving to Jacksonville Florida asap. I am so scared. All my family has passed that was close to me and so really long time friends moved to Jacksonville this year. We are following suit. So scary to move with my kids as a single mom. You have helped me so much.
did you end up moving? I am a single mom also thinking about moving to Florida
Kayla Pearson
This video was extremely helpful. Im so glad I found this channel. Im trying to gather as much information as I can to prepare for our big move to Florida.
Our goal in 2023 moving to Florida
New Subscriber! I love your videos, they’ve given me a better scope on what to expect when I move from NJ, I researched and visited Davenport and fell in love immediately! Have you guys met someone with special needs children that moved and what was their experience? I have my daughter who has cerebral palsy. Any information is greatly appreciated. Keep up the good work!
I like that you had your new stuff right when you moved in! Moving is always expensive even in the same state!
We moved from WA state to AZ in 2009. It cost us a small fortune. Now, we want to move to Florida. We pack our own stuff. We are hooked on cruises so we want to live close to a port. We are both retired. Good to know about the utilities and needing those receipts!
I love this, I wanna move to Florida so bad and I think if I can convince my husband to have a comfortable amount saved he’d do it
You need to visit FL in the summer time and experience it first. Summers here are MISERABLE with the constant heat and humidity for 4-5 months. Horrendous traffic too depending on where you live. People are not as friendly as the midwest where I'm originally from. I've lived here for 14.5 years and ready to leave.
Thank you for this video! We hope to making the move to Florida next year if not sooner. Good information on the Facebook Market place. We too have a lot to get rid of before the move. Love your Vlogs! Congratulations on this milestone on your channel!
Great video guys. Very realistic approach to the cost of moving to Florida. Thanks as always for sharing.
Florida With Five keep the videos coming, 👍🏻
Even talking about the money stuff, you’re making me so excited to move! July can’t come soon enough!
Florida With Five Thank you! I will be in Orlando!
Great video! This will help many that move to Florida!
My family and I are thinking about moving to Florida or Georgia in around 2 years and we are also from the Midwest and we are thinking more Georgia but Florida has amazing things and a great community (in most places) so we aren’t 100% sure yet
Love it! Today in Naples it was 70-75 degrees and that was 🥶FREEZING🥶 for me! I wore a hoodie and my friends from Michigan made fun of me 😂❤️
Hoping to move down to FL here in late 23’ with 100K cash for a home purchase , furniture all that jazz. From Kansas so this will be one crazy change.. I’m excited though ! Thanks for the vids I subbed.
Welcome, Ryan!
Subscribed! So excited to move down in a couple months your videos help so much!
I love your videos specially your family intro it’s so different my kids always dance and watch them with me. I have a family of 5 coming from Georgia a 4bedroom . This is very helpful Thank you and God bless.
Hey guys... as always great tips and helpful information. Im now counting down my months before my scheduled move from Chicago to Orlando. Yep I agree with the totals always have enough cushion money.
Another great useful tip that I would like to add that I just found out for those that are interested. Amtrak Express Shipping will ship up to 500 lbs per day (no electronic or furniture) boxes for a flat rate of $67 for the first 100 lbs and $0.67 per lb thereafter. You would have to bring it to your nearest Amtrak and pick up at the other end, which you will have up to 3 days to retrieve your items or they will begin charging for storage per day. Its another cheap route to get some things moved if you need to cut down cost. Although its not widely advertised but its a great option.
I'm 17 years old. Planning on getting a job at 18 and work for approximately 2 years without buying that much. End up with around 40k usd. Move to Florida w a friend and rent a place for 500 usd each. Get a motorcycle or something like that to travel. Then apply for police academy and well hopefully become a officer. Earn around 4-6k a month and just live good.
Good plan. Similar to what im doing
Great information and always entertaining💗you guys
Great estimate, I did a local move last month from Broward County to Miami Beach and it cost $1100 USD.
Great info and tips. This was very helpful in figuring out how much to budget for. Thank you ☺
me and my family are moving to florida! i am so excited😀😀😀
Florida With Five palm coast florida! and around the end of the year to beginning of next year!
Good info all around. Enjoy that Florida life.
Definitely over estimate! Great info guys! When we moved from Washington State. We weren't sure where we wanted to relocate to, si we ended up getting a VRBO for 2 months, worked great! We also sold everything (except clothes, documents & family pics). Cost us about 5k (only includes vrbo & travel costs to FL)
@@FloridaWithFive when its just adults driving, turns out to be easier to pull off at a rest area, catch a quick snooze, then back at it. Hotels were kinda $$
Planning to move to Florida in November 2022, I’m going REGARDLESS packing my car and going. Someone respond to my comment around that time for updates! I also will be documenting everything on my channel.
As always thanks guys for the helpful info!!! :)
This is soo helpfully I live in nc when I’m 18-19 plan to move to Florida I know I will be single since I don’t like people that’s why I’m moving but this is giving me hope I will make it and God will bless me with a home
That’s wonderful! Good luck, and keep us updated on your journey!
I found this video very useful! Thank you guys!!
Hello I’m first great video
This was super helpful!!
We moved this past spring. It can cost $4K easy without a long distance move. Little things add up.
Love the videos and your intro is so cute reminds me of full house. Sweet
You guys are awesome!
I bought a bank owned home in 2015 and moved in 2016. I rented an 18 foot trailer for 400.00 from Ohio to Florida. I brought 3500.00 with me and had to put in a kitchen sink, toilet, water heater, etc. My son was working here at Taco Bell. We did very well and made it easily. We were able to live on his limited income until I could finish my disability case. It is so much cheaper here in central Florida than Ohio.
Very helpful. Thank you.
Depends where but knowing your expenses great video ❤️
One of the best videos about moving. Very thorough.. thank you
Thanks Doc!!! 🙏🏻 😜
🦋God bless your family.. Thank you for the info...🌻🌈
I love the intro! helpful video ❤ planning to move from Chicago to Miami this yr lol like the rest of us here. Greetings!
Both you n I , let’s get in contact?
Thank you for this video loved it and helped alot
Needed this!
Moving yourself will always be cheaper but it is back breaking work. We moved from California to Florida doing everything pretty much ourselves for about $6k. When we moved from our apartment in Florida to our new house in Florida, we hired movers. The long distance move killed us and we had no desire to do it by ourselves again. Also if you are active duty military or a veteran, many places will give a discount. We saved a few hundred dollars using my veteran benefits. Check out AAA discount too.
@@FloridaWithFive $6K is just for the moving part. We rented a 16' Ft. Penske truck with car trailer and 1 U-Haul trailer. Includes gas, food, moving and vehicle insurance. You add in the apartment, new car insurance, etc. then another $4-5K on top of moving expense. We got lucky with our apartment as they only required a $300 deposit but we did have to pay 2 months of rent upfront. Utilities there was no deposit but our new house we did have to put down a $100 deposit for power. I should have included everything, not just the moving expense in my original post.
We don’t have much. Hoping to ditch our furniture, fit the rest of our junk in two separate cars, have a family or friend follow us with more stuff. We drove from OK to Florida for a trip and would push to get there again.
My husband, 2 kids and I live in an antiquated, small 2 bedroom in Cali for 1500 😓 WE ARE SO MOVING!
You’ll love Florida, the beaches are cleaner, my mom lived in California for ten years and my brother is 14 and really enjoyed the visit in Destin.
Congratulations yes 1500 a month on apartment sounds cheap but it’s still depressing.
It’s expensive like can’t we all just live plus utilities, and expenses.
The main question people need and should know is the difference between where you're coming from and what part of Florida you moved to. Did you take a pay cut in salary but it balanced out do to the remaining cost of living because it's cheaper from what state you're coming from...
Very helpful thanks. Love you guys 1😊
Love your content real good
Damn! After watching this video made it seem moving to Florida from complex to impossible now. I have been trying to move from Maryland to Florida since 2008. But thanks for making it sound like it’s easy which it isn’t.
Florida With Five I’m moving solo. I was living New Jersey came down to Maryland in 2011 moved with my parents, knowing that there is nothing left back in NJ, it was not a new beginning it was to get away from the old horrible life I had.
I’m hoping to move to Florida soon, just graduated high school
Do it I wish I did. easier when your younger. Harder to take a pay cut when your older moveing especially if you have family there that helps a lot
Apg Gersh yeah I’m starting college up here, and can hopefully transfer down to Florida
J Waz good luck bro. Moving down there bc I’m not a fan of my state and my girl is moving there. Couldn’t have a better excuse
Congratulations 🎉👏👏🎉 1000+ subscribers
$5,500 for a uhaul from Vegas🤦♂️. Love you guys, love the videos...very helpful!
Me and my mom might be moving to Florida this year. Any tips for beginners like us on moving to there?
Keep at it guys thank you so much ✨
We will, and you are so very welcome!
Another awesome video! I'm so happy we found your channel. I feel our move will be so much better because of you all. Btw: You remind me so much of my fav Sarah Jessica Parker😁
Thank you so much! We are so happy you found us as well! Welcome to the family! 😊
plan on moving to florida.. great content
Top tier no complaints
Thanks SO much, really helpful
What a cute family .. .. I wish you would have held up a stack of Benjamins .. .. I was surprised that I was required to make 3X or 4X the monthly rent in income "to qualify" as a renter .. .. Utility deposits I was used to .. .. U-haul truck - 26 footer - worked well for me .. .. As another WI escapee - It was the BEST MOVE EVER - no more cold & snow
Great video guys. I was wondering, did you guys have jobs lined up when you moved to Florida? And what field do you work in? Thanks so much.
@@FloridaWithFive That's great 😊
As a single 22 year old guy who’s looking to move from Wisconsin to Florida, what advice could you give or anything I really need to know before I move??
Just do it! At your age, and being single, what do you have to lose? You could move very inexpensively by getting rid of most of your belongings except what’s in your vehicle... save up a decent amount of money first, and find a furnished room for rent. Get a job that’s good enough to pay your bills and then you can merge right away, while you look for something else! Follow your dreams!
All the informative advice is in their videos
What part of Wisconsin are you from I’m thinking of moving to florida within the next year and I also live in Wisconsin
Great video guys and very informative thank you 🙏 What area in FL did you guys move to? if you can share
The most important thing to move to FL is to have a good job , specially now prices have gone a lot thise video was form last year now a 3 bedrooms es 2500 a month for a good area 3 bedroom appartment without the utilities for that reason I recommend if you are moving anywhere have a good job before moving anywhere or income .
I'm thinking of moving to Florida next year for my gap year but I live in England so I think it's going to be a lot more expensive for me.
What about 2 adults 2 cars filled with all our stuff, moving from Columbus OH to Jacksonville, FL?
The barefoot vlogger does one on this as well. Check it out.
We are planning on going in august September. We are doing Airbnb’s so we can find out where we wanna live. We also are buying a home so we need to figure out the areas in person
I want to move here from the uk in the next few years I'm currently 17 and joining the Royal Navy so the plan is to save and when I leave after 3-4 years mandatory service I want to move to Florida and join an engineering company it's always been my dream to live in the US gutted I wasn't born there your all lucky lol
Sounds like a great plan! We don't know too much about the topic, but aren't there student visas?
@@FloridaWithFive I think so but the navy's the route I want to take in marine engineering, the plan is to apply for a green card a few years prior I hope serving in the forces can boost my chances and hopefully if I can get a decent job there buy an apartment
Very informative 👍
Just sold our house in Spokane Wa and in 3 weeks we are going to move to Florida. No job lined up yet, not sure where we are gonna live yet… 🙈😂 just a blind leap of faith my hubby and our youngest son
Good luck to you and your family! Make sure to join our community on Facebook and keep us updated!!
I live in Pembroke Pines Florida and a decent 2bd is $2,700 per month not including utilities. Please check the information correctly before coming..
You two are very informative your kids are great in opening i am thinking of moving to Florida from ohio i know my way around ort st lucie i used to stay in hated community la buena vita used to have lunch with burt reynolds till he passed away would like to meet you some day
I’m moving to Orlando in a couple weeks and I admit I’m scared. It’s just me but I really want to leave and have a bigger better venture in life. I’m basically going on a wish and a prayer. I have a job lined up but no permanent home as I will have to rough it in a hotel until I can get a place but I really want to experience something new. Do you have any tips for me?
Try airbnb or vrbo first 2-4 weeks.. and look for the apartment meanwhile. Its probably cheaper and you ll make new connections.im moving in September as well..
Checking in with you, hope all is well since your move.
how did it go? i am wanting to move as a single person alos
I want to move to Florida in like 13 years
I’ve researched pods and they seem a little less than getting a truck but it depends on what you’re sending. As always great information and great video. Do you think at some point you can make a video with information on Disney Springs?
Florida With Five thanks 😊
Hi Guys! Great video. Question.........you mentioned car registration and drivers licenses costing $450 per car. Why so much? We live in California and are looking to move to FL. I figured registration would be much less out there?
The initial registration fee in FL is $225/vehicle. Add on top of that the cost of purchasing plates,, title fees, etc. and you get to about $400-$450
@@FloridaWithFive, thank you for that information. :)
I really want to move when I’m older near the beach and get a jet ski!!
get in line----moving to the beach in about a yr and sick of everyone wanting the same location
Hi, I think I want to move to Florida but my husband has asthma and sun burns easily... can you make a vid of that? -this is his wife commenting
Hi. I am a native Floridian from Miami who still lives there. The humidity is an asthma trigger for me. Your husband will need to use sunscreen. You will be living in the subtropics! I HIGHLY recommend you visit in the summer for a reality check. The climate has changed for the worse. Floridians have experienced the most intense and unprecedented hurricanes, especially in the last 15 years of weather history. Your insurance rates will skyrocket unless you’re in the central part of the state which is not immune from storms either but is somewhat
“safer” and “less expensive” than the coastal areas. I recommend purchasing Ron Stack’s book on moving to Florida. This is a fast growing transient (think of many people who may not be fluent in English) state with a weak infrastructure ( think of severe traffic and poor schools and runaway development) and high crime rates in the large and medium cities. Cities the size of the Orlando suburbs are springing up all over central Florida. The job market and salaries are weak in many parts of Florida. The theme parks and beaches are great, but how often will you really go? How will your day-to-day activities be impacted? Our property taxes, real estate, and insurances are very high. We tax food and clothing. There is no inheritance nor state income tax, so do your research. We are planning to leave South Florida within the next 3 years. If we stay, we might consider the Orlando area only because it has the state’s best economy and attractions and a lower chance of hurricane damage. Best of luck to you and your family.
@@carolm4545................ AGREED. Thanks.
I'll say cost is a boatload more. I'm from the Midwest and moving to Florida next month. I'm about to pay twice as much to get 1/2 as much in housing.
1500 a month for a 3br?😱
Where is that, a swamp? Where in Florida are you?
I hate that it costs more but I can't wait to never see cold weather again🥳
Hi Reina, this video is over two years old! We have a more updated one on our channel that we made about 4 months ago…But prices have unfortunately gone up even more since then!
@@FloridaWithFive
Lol okay. I'm about to move to land o lakes Florida. 2k+ for a 2br apt🙄 I had a 2br2ba 2car garage apartment home for less than 1500. Cant find that apt style anywhere😓
Yay!! I want to move to Florida
Wow this information helped a lot 🙏❤️❤️
I'm getting ready to move to davenport from Indiana for a 26ft truck and trailor one way was 4600 was the cheapest I found
I'm planning to move to FL this year and the biggest piece of advice I keep getting is to purge (to include furniture). But my thought process is why would I get rid of stuff that I already have to then have to repurchase once I get there.? Small unused items for sure but most people are telling me to get rid of as much as possible. Seems like a bad idea financially unless I'm already in the market to upgrade said items. 🤷🏼♀️
MMM, VERY INTERSTING! Thank you very much for the info! Ok, those are the averages for a family...can you make a video about the average costs for a single person? (No spouse, no girlfriend or "significant other" ...even no pets.)
Do you have your actual estimates? We’re a family of 7 planning on moving this summer!!
Hope to move to Florida the next 6 months
BEWARE: Check out your moving company very carefully if you use one! We were planning to move ourselves in the largest Hertz truck. After we were all packed up, we realized our furniture and boxes would not fit in their largest truck and we needed to find a moving company with a MOVING VAN! The moving date was one week away. We found a moving company that could do it, we told them the furniture we had and the number of boxes and box sizes etc. We told them the largest Hertz truck would be too small... they quoted us $4000. (Twice what the Hertz truck would cost-Florida to Michigan.) ok. When they arrived on moving day they , they arrived in the same size truck as the largest Hertz truck. They packed as much as they could in their truck saying they thought they could get it all in. At midnight! Oh yeah, forgot to tell you they showed up 5 hours late, the truck was full, but we still had half a truck left not packed! They also wanted us to sign a new quote agreeing to $7500! Plus we still had to find another truck the next morning to load all the rest of our things on and pull our car! Then fly all the way back to Florida to pick up our other Vehicle. The story continues and gets much worse. They stole our whole truck worth of belongings for a month, police wouldn’t help, said we needed to get a lawyer... it was a scam! MAKE SURE YOU GET A REPUTABLE MOVER , CHECK THEIR REFERENCES CAREFULLY, have them come to your home ,see what you are moving and give you a written signed quote. Get at least 2 quotes.
