Following IKE’s career forever. A true monster on the water, but now he is the same monster at teaching. I learn so much from him, I appreciate your video IKE.
I used these for the first time this year. Missed a big blowup. Second log crawled across and a 5 pounder blew up and engulfed it. 100 foot later threw across a log and came across it and killed the bait and the bass ran out with it. That bass was 7 pounds . Very impressive action.
By far, the best description of rigging & fishing this bait, that I have seen! And wow, talk about a perfect demonstration! It did exactly what you described. Awesome as always. 😃👍🏼💪🏼
The best bait I’ve ever thrown to catch big fish. I have caught more bigger fish with this gilly more than ever. I use the 110 mid size. I actually have been using the screw lock hook with a nail wait on the bottom and it’s been working extremely well. I watched all the videos about the gilly but I have not seen anybody use the screwlock hook. My favorite new bait. Great video Mike keep up the great work.
I just rigged a couple gillys on a screw-lock hook myself...seems to rig really good with the screw lock...not sure how it will look in the water though
I got a pack of these after your first video. I was having a hard time getting bit with it. Was inspired after watching this yesterday... utilized the "twitch and bow" & ended up with 3 nice 2lb+ largies! Thank you for the knowledge Guru!!
Mike, there was a time when the only choice I had was to hook a live gill and use it because I knew, even as a preteen, that this is the native magic lure and I'll land a "biggun". I used to wonder "why doesn't anyone make a natural looking soft plastic that resembles bluegills?" Now there are so many varieties but this Berkley is killer!
I have had a heck of a time keeping the Gilly on the hook. The bait soft plastic rips often and you will go through them. If you use the smallest Gilly the 1 hook is to flimsy
I love the gillys bought them up both times i seen them. I got a few different colors and different sizes. Unfortunately I have not seen any since at the multiple tackle shops I frequent
buy this bait..it works.seen it at wally world...4th cast 3iber off corner of Lilly pads....caught several theu out day ...great bait...mike huge an of yours...
Mike got a Tell ya I rigged one of your new Berkley Gillies on a chatter bait head/bladed jig with no skirt and boy does that thing is deadly!!! Great combo
The biggest bass ive caught this year was a 4 puond largemouth on a black/blue fake 110 gilly, killer bait that is sorta tricky at first but easy enough that anyone can use
Man, I hope Berkeley is hooking you Uupppp! They could not have put together a better ad for this bait! What a beast of a fish! Good job, and thank you for your videos.
Thank you another excellent Gilly seminar. Here in AZ, spawn is long gone. Fry are swimming freely. No tree cover in the shallows. Water temperature is 85+ and climbing. Would you fish the Gilly on ledges? Slow retrieve? Thank you for all you give to our community.
Really looking forward to trying the 90 or the 110 on my pond still fishing from the bank but I love it for bless you mr.ike thanks for the info on new Berkeley baits I always tune into the in the shop vids keep up the hard work
Thank you for the content mike, I was just looking at those yesterday at my local store. Question though I live up north it doesn't seem in my opinion, that they feed as much on bluegills they do say perch. Is that just the time of the year? Or is it possible they're more likely to feed on smaller perch than Blue go? I bought two rosary pencil Bates last fall and one was mimicking a bluegill one was a perch and 10 to 1 the perch outperformed bluegill colors. I guess the secondary thought and or question would be, everything is known to evolve and adapt could it be possible that they would evolve and adapt to say perch?
Hey Mike I made a laser engraved IKE shark logo back when I was in high school, on a old weathered piece of barn board. Was wondering if you want it for your shop or something. Anyway would really like for you to see it.
Mike, a few questions on this; I live in north central pa and mostly fish the west branch of the Susquehanna for smallies. 1. Is this more of a largemouth specific bait? Or just as good for smallies too? 2. Is the side rigging EWG the best method for smallmouth? 3. What size gilly is the best size for smallmouth? Thanks, -Eric
Hi Mike. Another excellent video. I have all 3 sizes. My problem is I have trouble making the Gilly run upright. It falls on its side a lot. Any tips from anyone to make the bait run upright would be appreciated. It always falls to its side when I retrieve it. Thanks
If you use the Owner ringed hooks (I’m using the 3/0 size) just hook it through the lips Texas rigged and hook it back through the bottom slot and it should swim straight. I fished it on braid to 20lb flourocarbon leader. Hope it helps because it took me a while to get it figured out
I really like them in the water I have had a problem getting them to run straight without adding a small nail weight to the front of it. Any suggestions? I am rigging it in the exact location you are
When I am reeling in, faster or slower it lays on its side. I have used different size hooks, and adjusted the hook up and down. I have a tournament at the end of the month on the Arkansas River that I would love to throws this up on the rock banks. Any suggestions?
Check this video out on how to rig the gilly. ua-cam.com/video/4i0K_iaKRYU/v-deo.html here is another how to video. ua-cam.com/video/Di76yUM0qJc/v-deo.html
I bought the smallest size I could only drop shot with it any other way I rigged it just would spin on the line and twisted my line so I'd like to try the bigger ones to see if I could swim them.
I had a package of these in my hands today but didn't have my phone with me and I couldn't remember how to rig them so I passed. lol. There's tons of 3 inch bluegill in a lake I fish .
They always swim sideways for me when I fish them weightless. Especially when rigged like in this video. I found putting a nail weight in the belly corrects that problem.
Mike, where can I find that rod? Don’t know if I missed it on the Abu website or not, but it seems to be non existent. Also, I have the AbuGarcia Zata and I’m fishing from a kayak. Haven’t had the guts to stand in it yet, so with that being said, how can I mimic the bowing motion with this bait when I get it?
So without throwing this bait at all I bought all of the colors and sizes from the academy I work at. I saw them come in and said “yup, no one else around here is getting these.” They just look like spawn and post spawn killers. I might even slap 5 on an umbrellas and see what happens
Absolutely destroyed em using this bait. Unfortunately it only lasted one bait per fish. But 3/3 of the 110mm ain’t bad in my book. Last one was a huge cat that wanted some gilly.
original Gilly is Japanese lure called gill flat by issei. Berkley just ripped it off, 99.9% exact same design just fyi. I'm not here to tell you which to use nor to hate on berkley. just neat little fact take it or leave its up to you
Camera man needs to learn how to capture the way to work the lure once you start casting. Lol. The moment you said there was wake at the corner. He should of stood up and recorded the area of where you tossed.
Tried on and off for a week, could not get them to swim correct. Looks awesome on the bank, but dead and lifeless (lies on its side, will not run vertical) tried multiple hooking techniques and styles. So disappointed
What's a 2.2lber? If you are referring to the fish he caught that's way bigger than 2.2 lbs. Look at the mouth and the bulging eyes alone. The eyes don't get like that until they are around 4-5 lbs.
I brought some 90's this is how i go it to swim. Lets say my first day going out was school i used a 2/0 which was too big but i hooked it more towards the tail that worked. As it got dark a turtle snapped one of my gillys off. so today i used an owner pinpoint keeper and a leader with a swivel and a snap with size 1 ewg it worked perfectly
Mike your part of the video was great but the camera work sucked. The little you saw of the edges of the lake looked beautiful with pads and some wood lay downs but most of the filming was looking up at you from a low angle that really only showed a white background which was annoying, why not film at a normal level where you may catch a blow up or the giant wake on video?
Following IKE’s career forever. A true monster on the water, but now he is the same monster at teaching. I learn so much from him, I appreciate your video IKE.
bite on the first cast, capture on the second! finally, a "fantastic" lure that actually works. And I'm glad, because they are NOT cheap.
I used these for the first time this year. Missed a big blowup. Second log crawled across and a 5 pounder blew up and engulfed it. 100 foot later threw across a log and came across it and killed the bait and the bass ran out with it. That bass was 7 pounds . Very impressive action.

@@pondparadisedesignsinc.rob5313 weighted or weightless hook?
Kristine Fischer has a video of screw lock and weight added. I made a couple up and ready to try it as soon as season opens up here in Ontario
I got a pack of these after your first video. I was having a hard time getting bit with it. Was inspired after watching this yesterday... utilized the "twitch and bow" & ended up with 3 nice 2lb+ largies! Thank you for the knowledge Guru!!
What a great bait. Every bass I’ve thrown it at has if nothing else chased after it. This bait works great.
I recently fished the Gilly for the first time at the Hobie BOS event at Broken Bow. The action of that thing is incredible!
Just ordered the 130...can't wait to shoot an episode with it...Great video Mike!!! Keep up the great work !!
💪 yes!! Never give up!
Excellent job Sense ! If it's anyone that can teach us, it's definitely you!!! I love every video so far.,
I have had a heck of a time keeping the Gilly on the hook. The bait soft plastic rips often and you will go through them. If you use the smallest Gilly the 1 hook is to flimsy
Try using a screw lock. Kristine Fischer has a video on it. They last all day that way
Thank you for the recommended hook sizes for the Gilly's by size. Got the 90mm in BG to test in several waters here in Northern Ohio. I can't wait.
Very cool 😎!! I remember when I was catching Sunny’s. 😃
I love the gillys bought them up both times i seen them. I got a few different colors and different sizes. Unfortunately I have not seen any since at the multiple tackle shops I frequent
Been wanting to fish one of these Mike! Thanks for showing us how. Shawn.
Looks like ike doesn't respond much😲
Love this song and Doja. Reminds me of a juke joint in Pulaski County Arkansas I used to frequent.

Thanks for the info. I bought my first pack of 110 pumpkinseeds today !

nice job Mike. I'm getting some of these

Great advice on the retrieve to spark a strike, get a lot of follows on bluegill type baits but can be tough to get them to strike 👍
Just got lucky and found a pack on sale for $3.99! I about to give it a go!
Really want to throw this in ponds near my house, the are loaded with bluegill
Heck yeah! Do it!!!!
I'm sure you'll spank some nice bass there
You should do very well as long as there's plenty of bass
It works. Did it last night in the dark and landed 5 in one hour at a pond by my house. They love em

Finally got some Gilly’s. Wish me luck!
Love the look of this bait, just really hard to find
Berkley is making more molds so expect them everywhere soon
Okay I like looking at different fishermen giving nuggets of knowledge and this man gave a KFC bucket, best fishing explanation ever

the 2/0 is way too big for the 90mm. a size 1 ewg works well
I agree. If you use a 2/0, the hook will be way back ins "Swim" part of the bait.
Nice catch 👍🏻
Thank you!! 💪
I’m a big fan of the screw lock hook. Can this be used with this Gilly and will it swim correctly?
YES!!
Thanks from New Jersey.
Watching Mike get so pumped for a 3 ½ them northeast fish must grow slower than them Texas fish.

Mike, it would be a great SHOP video w/ you on the water using these in tandem or Donkey Rig.
I've rigged one of my 130s with Stren 25 lb Flouro and plan on catching some nice Flatheads with it...

Serious question I have Striped bass coming into the harbor to feed on the little bait fish but we can’t get them to feed what should we use

is it good for flathead?
No 2- gonna work on the 90. Not weedless anyway.
Mike do you age at all? Lookin good buddy
I don't see 2/0 in screw lock anywhere any brand I'll try the 3/0 on the 90mm but I bet it is too big

Big largemouth .... not what I would call a giant. Not for you Mike. LOL Good video though. Hope to see you around Manasquan Reservoir again soon.

If you add weight to the chin, the gilly imitates a dying panfish as well
