Next time Luke solves the problem of escaping liquids when eating a soup with a fork by closing the gaps of the fork, so the soup can't escape through them anymore. no more being defeated by soup, thanks to the ultimate gamechanger, the closed fork. ;) all the best from Germany
A game changer? Well, for those of us who have always preferred a jacket over an anorak, it is hardly that. But I am glad you got them to do something you wanted to get done.
Nice mods you did. So technically your Pilgrim is no longer an anorak, in that case, it may be more interesting to buy Helikon's SAS smock, which is technically the same.
Hi Luke - I don’t get why someone would buy an anorak to then install a zipper. Why not go for one of the many great jackets available in the first place?
Engelbert Strauss (what an image that cunjours lol ?) make good outdoor wear which l tend to utilise in camping.German quality and made in Germany .Their rain-jackets are especially excellent.
@@earlgrey691 They don't give their specs in terms of water column and breathability which means it's lower than gore-tex, by default I would rather call that bad than excellent for serious outdoor use.
Looks like a great idea to solve a problem if you already have an anorak. But essentially what you’ve done is just make a full zip parka or shell. If you don’t have anything, don’t buy an anorak to convert it just buy a conventional shell with the hood in the first place, that being said thumbs up on creativity and do it yourself solutions. Cheers and thank you.
Will this change the advantages that an anorak provides? Like wind infiltration through the zipper? No longer having a kangaroo pouch in the front for carrying bigger items or being able to put your hands together for warmth? I can definitely see the advantage of a full length zipper for sure. But it will also take away some of the original intents of the jacket.
Tune in to part 2 next week when Luke discovers a new modification to an Army Surplus Pullover and invents the Army Surplus Cardigan. So innovating that both the SAS and the SEALS adopt the wearing of cardigans as standard operating procedure in the future 💪🥷🏿🤙
I've never been a fan of any pull over jacket or sweater. Simply too impractical and I prefer to regulate my temperature often. As someone who's been making and modifying my own custom gear for my own purposes for a little while now, I applaud you getting the word out that this is something you can do.
Great modification!! Watched your previous video on the Pilgrim but decided against getting one simply because of the lack of full length zipper. Would be nice if Helikon-Tex just offered this as an option.
4th thing, is try to find anoraks with side zippers. That makes them going on and off way easier. We love the Pilgrim and agree but our other anoraks have side zippers we enjoy, however still not a take it on and off piece every half hour, its a piece to be out in for hours at a time.
Great idea. Wonder why companies have not done this. That is the major reason I have never obtained one before now. Don't own any pullover sweatshirts either.
Brilliant! I bought a sewing machine years ago when I was tired of similar problems. There is almost always something that needs to be fixed, sewn into the waist or something else that could have been done smarter... Wonder What Helikon-Tex thinks about your genious idea 😄👍
It was sort of a shock to hear this since many of us are outdoors people and know why Anoraks were made and why some prefer Jackets over them. And to be honest the first thought when hearing it was... Why don't you buy a Jacket with the same strengths instead of an Anorak? (Edit for a missing U in Buy.)
If you want to keep the anorak feel while still making donning and doffing it easier, just sew zippers up each side into the pits. Bonus points if you use 2 was zippers, that way you can zip them up to get on or off or zip down from the pits as pit zips
I have the Pilgrim and love it, once it is on. I can barely feel my left side(ministoke). There is a local tailor I have used before. I think it’s time to stop in and have mine done. Your original review sold me on the anorak. Day 50 of the new chemo, cheers.🤙
Same exact thing for many fjallravenjackets where the zipper is the worst thing about them. did this to mine and never looked back . truly a game changer.
That is awesome. I don't do pullovers because I have a problem shoulder and it is nearly impossible to get some pullovers off without help. T-shirts are stretchy enough they aren't usually a problem. I would consider purchasing one of them if it was not a pullover.
Anorak ARE without full zip....no matter what! Now it's just a jacket! Anoraks are made that way to be most....closed! It's been that for a several thousand years, thereby earned a name(a.n.o.r.a.q.).
Great modification. Ive got the ventus active hoodie 2xl from Outdoor Vitals. I'm a large size at best; however, I have broad shoulders, and the 2xl allows me to put it on without having to doslocate my shoulders and pop them into place. I thinkthat this mod will work great. Great idea and thanks for sharing.
For me it makes sense as ive always had the V-Shape Shoulders/Waist. I could never get that type of clothing on, always got stuck on my shoulders, Shame they don't start adding it.
Anoraks in the uk are just heavy duty weatherproof hooded coats wiyh full length zippers that normally have drawstring waist and a zip that comes up from the bottom for easy sitting down. Nana Karen UK
The tailored version does look a bit better, but I think the anorak you modified yourself looks pretty damn good, Luke. I’d be interested to see more modification or DIY videos if you’re interested in making them.
Really looked close at the Pilgrim anorak and decided against it for exactly what you mentioned. Difficulty putting on/taking off. Bought their SAS smock instead and love it. Smock has a double zipper too.
I personally like the sarma anorak I got for my dad. It has a two way zipper in each side. Makes it easy to put in by you can also use them as pit zips if you unzip from the top, while keeping the nice pass through pocket
I think it would be even better with a double zip. Say if your kitted up or something, being able to vent by pulling up the bottom zipper would be a huge plus/improvement
I've got waterproof zippers on the luggage bag i use on my Motorbikes. They are a pain in the posterior to open and close. After the pull tap broke off i'm using a ziptie as pull tap and most often use the parcel hook of my Swiss Army knife for better leverage.
So you took an anorak and made it a jacket. At extra cost. If these are are Chinese made, they're going to be sized smaller than US sizing. And if you want to wear your anorak over a fleece, you should buy accordingly size-wise. Are you going to put a zipper in all your pullover hoodies now? 🤔
I find the Pilgrim perfect just as it is. The SAS smock is good but feels a lot less robust than the Pilgrim and has a hood that doesn’t work for me as it is too small with a short peak.
Great idea what haven’t they do this to all there coats it makes more sense to improve this great review Gary Liverpool p.s I have a new leg and I’m doing vary well thanks to you
Loving your reviews, I’m learning a lot about gear I’m interested in. Keep up the good work 🍻 Regarding this vid, I am curious. I really like anoraks, particularly for bushwalking, camping, canoeing etc. I’m thinking putting a zip in would indeed make them easier to put on/take off, but wouldn’t that make it just another regular jacket? Are there any specific anorak features that’d represent an improvement over purpose designed full-zip jackets to make this re-work worthwhile? 🤔
Hey hey next month colab idea!! Team up with Rose Anvil and add laces to your favorite cowboy boots. On and off will be so much easier and it will add ventilation! Also mention me in the vid to give me credit for the idea. Seriously, that’s great coat, the company should simply manufacture it!
Luke, you hit the nail on the head with this modification! I own the Pilgrim Anorak from Helikon-Tex and I love it. BUT, it is very difficulty to put on/take off. I'm a little broad at the shoulders (not as narrow at the waist as I'd like...) and I have to squeeze into it each time. I may have to consider modifying it as you suggest. But, is it still an anorak?
Check out the Mountain Hardware KOR Airshell Hoody (zip jacket). I have this plus the Helikon Tex Windrunner Windshirt, (it is listed as a 'shirt' not Anorak).... Big difference. Anyway I like the Mountain Hardware JACKET much better. It runs more true to size, obviously has a great zipper, machine washable (unlike the Helicon Tex) and the material 'feels' basically the same, same as for thickness, weight, being water repellent, and blocking wind. Mountain Hardware maybe or I think is bit more higher quality.

Lol I thought this was an April Fools joke. Congratulations you bought a jacket you had to sew yourself.
Had me too! This new invention called a zipper is going places! Before you know it jackets will come with them
You know, I am detecting, (just a hint of, mind you), comedic sarcasm here from you folk. Can’t say as I blame you. 😁
This is the dumbest video EVER 😂
congratulations you have reinvented the wheel....
So what exactly does Luke call his new invention?? The Anoracket?? The Janorak ??? The Jackorak ?? 🤣🤣😂
