Dominic was one of the best players in the world just a few years ago. It just goes to show that nothing is guaranteed in tennis and an injury can end your career. I wish Dominic nothing but the best in this next chapter in his life.

@@usermatisse Both Juan and Dominic were never the same players again after their wrist injuries. Maybe Rune might be able to keep playing at a high level still. Only time will tell.
he's mentioned it feels like a weight has been lifted ever since he announced his retirement. just goes to show how much mentality matters too. i'm so glad he got a grand slam win before the injury, so many of his contemporaries never will

Honestly i dont know why he is playing matches when he isnt back at his level. Look at kyrgios, hes taking his time because he wants to make sure hes back at his level from before

His match against Tabilo should be an epic 3 setter.
Bererrettini must have been doing a lot of drills while he was off. His weakness used to be that his ground strokes broke down in long rallies. Now he is winning on clay for fun.

People were greatly exaggerating the lack of quality on his backhand side. It's not the best or most consistent backhand in the world, but it has never been as bad as people were making it out to be, he was always capable of hitting a winner here and there.
Truly feeling for Thiem. Such an unfortunate that his injury has forced him into this situation.

As an Italian I'm really glad to see improvements and more confidence. In Matteo. At the same time I'm a bit sad for Dominik. He deserves much more than this. 🏆💪

I feel like if Thiem changed his game, he could have stayed elite.
He continued to play the same way, and that isn't always feasible as you age and/or acquire injuries.
Rafa is STILL making adjustments to his game, because his movement isn't as good as it used to be.

I hope Thiem will play better at the Olympics and gets good results as I know he knows How to win matches specially Clay court. Just a few years ago he was One of the best clay court specialist next to the Big 3 but now he lost his touch to the game and I hope he recovers when he’s in Paris already.
He isn't playing at the Olympics. Didn't get a Wild Card.
He will not get good results. His career will end in a couple of months and he's really just waiting for his retirement in Vienna. Anyone who has been watching him in the last couple of years understands that he's completely done. That's why he's retiring. He only won one ATP Tour level match this year, in Estoril, and it may quite possibly be his last victory in his career. His game is really done for good. Besides, he was never scheduled to play the Olympics.

I don't think saying that everyone is disappointed in Thiem is accurate. Most people just feel sorry for him, he didn't deserve such ending. But as for his "ability to still be at the top", that's what has been lost for years. He's No. 404 in the Race, i.e. this year's results. He only won one ATP Tour level match in 2024. And as for "making money", you can imagine with such results he's spending more on expenses than he's earning. It may also be one of the reasons for his retirement.
Everyone was saying the wrist was fine and thiem had mental problems. Truth being told I think thiem trying to rehab rather than go for surgery was a tough choice but either way with a tough injury like this the end was bound to come. Looking back thiem’s season last year was still really beautiful to see. Every win was special and put smiles on so many peoples’ faces. But nowadays thiem’s wrist speaks for itself. Looks like thiem had to force pace and depth and it’s tough for him to do much. His serve is still good which is what keeps him alive in a lot of matches but at the end of the day, Thiem poured his heart out in so many matches for so many years and he deserves a proper sendoff by the us open and any other possible tournaments as well as the fans. A lot of people like to hate on thiem especially sports betters but this is a man who doesn’t deserve any of it and should be praised for what he’s done and worked for.

It's very sad to see thiem not even able to win matches at a 250 level. At one point of time he was considered in the league of Novak and Rafa. Novak/Rafa vs thiem were considered the semis/finals whenever they played.
This is what tennis is all about. One injury and your legacy can be snapped with six months or a year.
Even though Rafa had injuries throughout his career but he still came back to win slams and that's why he's one of the GOAT alongside Novak 🐐

The things are not mutually exclusive. What many people here don't seem to understand is that a single match can both start and end one's campaign. They obviously said "starts" instead of "ends" because whenever they give away the result in the title (or thumbnail), they get massively slammed in the comments by many people who want to watch the highlights without knowing who won. Plus, especially in Thiem's case, not revealing the result can attract more viewers - what if he won a match...
