No, but the same applies for tennis players. Because committing a double fault or sending a ball out are mistakes, dropping an f bomb, smashing rackets and/or tournament's furniture and endangering people by throwing 200 km/h balls into the crowd aren't, so they get fined for that and i guarantee you that if umpires were to do the same they wouldn't just lose some money.
That Rune vs Djokovic call was so bullshit. Rune was right to call out the umpire. There are some absolutely shitty calls and the umpires egos are way too huge for them to admit their mistake and call right but they never get punished for even the most horrendous calls. Djokovic just looking proudly at Rune for calling the umpires bullshit. He knows exactly Runes perspective and probably wanted to say it himself many times.

I did see Ymer's point - if the umpire will come down and check for some players, he should do it for all of them. I think really that was his gripe more than the call being incorrect
Umpire for Frances v Milos was correct. I mean you can even accidentally make contact with those boards behind the baseline area and you wouldn't be called out so same thing goes at that outer, doubles part of the net. But I about that Bublik v Goffin. I think Goffin continued playing, wasn't hindered, and his ball went out so the point should've been awarded to Bublik. Rune erasing ball mark is uncalled for.
Refs have to be consistent. I totally believe it when Ymer says he has never seen a ref not check a mark when a player asks. Even when they are sure they still come down and just show it to the player. The rules probably don't specify that he should come down, but you have created an expectation with players when you always do it and that has to account for something. The ref says he cannot check it twice, then that he saw it good. That doesn't make sense. He won't check it. Perhaps his English is poor, but to sit in that chair you have to be able to express yourself properly in English. Seems like later he may have refered to Ymer not immediately stopping which is not a rule, it's a judgement call, which I think is very close here. At any rate, the umpire was all over the place here, made bad arguments and he could have avoided the whole thing by just checking the mark. Managing the situation is also part of refereing and he chose to boost his ego over his job, facilitating the game. Ymer's actions later on were inexcusable, but that's a seperate matter.
Medvedev vs Nadal in the 2019 US Open final in the 5th set at 2-2 in one of the deuce points was very notable. Medvedev starting serving with almost 2 to 3 seconds left in the shot clock and Nadal put his hand up signaling he was not ready. Medvedev served an ace. Seems like Nadal took away that ace from Medvedev. Did not like that move from Nadal and lost respect for Nadal. Seems like Medvedev got hard done there.

14:48 I didn't know this rule and I only understood when the supervisor explained. WOW! For all effects in a single's match the part of the net between the singles line to the post does not exist.
So, a doubles net is wider than a singles net by a bit over a metre on each side. In tournaments where the court doesn't have the fittings to put a specific singles net in, they'll use a doubles net and put little bits of wood called singles sticks in where the singles post should be to make the net cord hang like a single net. In that case, the rule is that the section from the singles stick to the net post doesn't count as a "net", but as a "permanent fixture" sort of like the walls and fences around the courts. That's important here because you're not allowed to touch the net during a point, but permanent fixtures are fine. Tiafoe touched the "permanent fixture" part of the net, which Murphy realised after he made the touch call and corrected himself, and since Tiafoe hit a clean winner that Raonic had no play on even if he wasn't distracted by Murphys call, he was awarded the point. Raonic didnt know that rule, and was convinced he should have been given the point due to the supposed net touch.
Tiafoe hit a winner, but touched the net before the 2nd bounce. Usually this would mean he loses the point, however he only touched the portion of the net in the doubles alley so didn't lose the point. Aka, if the point was played on the Next Gen court the player could hit that shot without hitting the net, but almost every tournament has a longer net & court lines for doubles matches.
The well-known referee Mohamed Lahyani has already made several serious mistakes in his career, including in the Novak vs. Holger match. Players are punished for inappropriate behavior, but when a referee makes a mistake, there are no consequences.
Imagine feeling the need to fight with a homecrowd at age 36 after winning 24 slams. Another great example why Djokovic will never be as liked as Federer en Nadal. He can say nice things during interviews for years to come, he still doesn’t get that his on-court behavior is the issue.
The commentators were way too nice to Norrie here. The entire court is empty, Novak has turned around, and then Norrie smashes right at Novak? Come on, how is that accidental? Norrie is a pro player, he can aim his smashes.
It is about time tennis got rid of umpires all together. Most of them are not fit for purpose and every tournament should be using tech to make line calls
Come on ATP. After watching that absolute battle between Carlos and Nole, Ymer dismantling the umpire chair, I was almost afraid to watch the top 1 most dramatic moment of 2023.
Raonic still won the match.
Djocko super number one!❤❤❤❤
Mohamed Lahyani is by far the worst umpire on tennis history
Umpire: "this is how we do"
Djokovic: "this is how we do *what*?"
Hilarious, poor umpire
Lahyani doesn't deserve the beef
I remember a match between Hingis vs Graff the crowd boo'd Hingis all the time. Maybe because Hingis was super annoying. But what a match that was.
Novak vs Alcaraz was some contest..❤️
There were disputes with the same referee in several games. There is something wrong with this referee.
same ump (at least it looks that way) for djoko/rune and kokk/munar. maybe its the umps fault?
The well-known referee Mohamed Lahyani has already made several serious mistakes in his career, including in the Novak vs. Holger match. Players are punished for inappropriate behavior, but when a referee makes a mistake, there are no consequences.
I didn't realise players got fined for unforced errors
0:32 I don't think Sinner will ever do such a thing! 😁😁
Number 8, how does this umpire still have a job at this level? Terrible decision here, and terrible decision at the Estoril Open today
I feel like maybe we just need less stubborn chair umpires at this point
Please whats the name of the music at 5:43 pls ???
The time has come to evaluate judges. In 2024 it should be better than that. Some judges should be replaced.
Number 5 doesn't make any sense since he DOES touch the net, not only the permanent fixture.
It doesn't exist during a singles match.
The serve clock is mo lahyani’s opp
1:14 why that out was not reported?
Lahyani rly is a terrible ump, I agree with novak and holger 100%
You're always trying to look bad Djokovic image, I'm ashamed of you guys!
Maybe if they make a supervisor's supervisor than the players will believe the call :)
Holder is right the umpires are never fined
It is about time tennis got rid of umpires all together. Most of them are not fit for purpose and every tournament should be using tech to make line calls
Come on ATP. After watching that absolute battle between Carlos and Nole, Ymer dismantling the umpire chair, I was almost afraid to watch the top 1 most dramatic moment of 2023. And then was just Norrie accidentally tagging Djokovic in the foot. Whoever did this video turn the most dramatic moments in tennis 2023, into the least dramatic video of the year.
