Beauregard, /Smiths Station, Alabama wedge tornado from off of HWY 51. Thoughts & prayers go out for those affected by today's tornadoes! #alabama #tornado #storms
Tornadoes are a force of nature, powerful deadly and awe inspiring. Just because you appreciate them doesn’t mean you aren’t concerned for It’s victims.
Yikes, this footage contains pretty much everything chasers shouldn’t do. Driving all over the road, fumbling with camera equipment while driving, punching into a rain-wrapped tornado that is hard to see or judge the direction of, and then ignoring damaged homes that probably had people in them to continue looking for ‘hero footage.’ The shaming you will get from this upload will be well deserved.
Captain Falcon Tim died driving into a situation that he knew could be dangerous, yet he did it anyway. He wasn’t on the clock, he was doing it for video and he got to close. The tornado changed directions and he was trapped. Number one tornado chasing rule was broken. Never try and predict what a tornado is going to do. There were many chasers that day who took chances and thought they were safe, but luckily they were far enough away when it changed directions.
Storm Chasing Rule #1: STOP AND HELP THE VICTIMS. Getting a good chase video is secondary to the well being of others. Storm Chasing Rule #2: SAFETY. Pay attention to your driving! You're going to give chasers a bad name by being irresponsible.
The thing I teach in SKYWARN training is that unless you're a trained medical professional, don't touch the injured because you can make it worse. I know a case in 1998 in Alabama where a man was thrown from his home and had a back injury - a good samaratan moved him and caused paralyasis.
I don't know about you dummies but when they pulled up and STOPPED at the destroyed house, you could clearly here the car door OPEN and when the video restarted, they were somewhere else. That tells me they DID get out of the car to check. Dumb asses.
the footage is never as important as stopping to help people. that chase should’ve been over when he came upon that damage, could’ve saved someone’s life.
I was really disappointing he turned around after see those houses totally destroyed. Seconds matter in saving lives in that situation. Very disappointing for sure.
I agree wholeheartedly. Any respectable chaser, would stop and render aid. Whatever aid they can render. That’s part of the responsibility you take up when you decide to chase a tornado.

well, there's search and rescue and there's tornado hunters, without the tornado hunters people wouldn't be able to see coverage, i'm not saying let people just die, but i'm just saying everyone does their own thing in this. Same counts for news reporters.

@@johnmclean2010 Stop. This is getting stupid and the overall point is being missed. Stay in your lane, literally not weaving all over the road. Stop when first on the scene to an area wiped out. This isn't difficult.
sees a house pretty much annihilated oops let’s NOT GO BACK OR EVEN DRIVE UP THE DRIVE WAY TO SEE IF ANYONE WAS THERE! You’re trying to core punch a rainwrapped tornado Messing with camera equipment WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING!! Going into oncoming lanes Nearly collided with a vehicle Didn’t even get great footage On 3 separate occasions you drove by damaged or even destroyed homes and didn’t even bother spending 30 seconds out of the chase to check up on it. By the way it sounds I don’t even think you were reporting the location anywhere. Are you for real dude? Come on, get your shit together.
When he/she is driving wrecklessly, putting others lives at risk beyond what's happening weather-wise, yes! You forget, Jack, we all are watching his/her video. The twister is no where near him/her. Get out the car and help someone. At least have a gawdam conscience. The people around may be somewhat stressed about the weather, so now they need to watch out for the Jack-off driving like ... well ... a Jack-off. Thank God for Darwinism.

What is that was one of your family members wouldn’t you want someone to help them !!!!! STOP ✋ LOOK CHECK HELP THEN GO DO YOUR CHASE ! Who knows you could’ve saved someone had u thought to help instead of chase .i live in Alabama and this is devastating
Totally not cool to leave the scene of the house like that!!! There were probably people in there that needed help!!! What if someone did that you to you or your family????? That's bad karma, man!!!
@@mpk6664 I said the same thing about the cut. Someone comment that an unedited video was uploaded and later deleted where he just pulled off without checking. This guy is getting raked over the coals so if he's smart he'd upload the unedited version to save himself.

The CERT program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may affect their areas and trains them in basic disaster response skills, including fire safety, light search and rescue and disaster medical operations. Piotrowski urged chasers to alert law enforcement or emergency management personnel to imminent threats such as an approaching tornado. Don't assume they already know, he told the crowd in Denver. (More: 10 Worst U.S. Tornado Outbreaks) "Take the time to tell them what's going on," he said. "Just 10 or 15 seconds could save the lives ... of a lot of people." If a tornado strikes a town or farm near where you're chasing, Piotrowski told the chasers, stop driving. Stop chasing. Stop filming. "Every person can save a life," he said. Every chaser should wear a helmet to protect his or her head from flying debris. Chasers should wear their seatbelts in the event they're involved in a collision or their vehicles are struck by strong winds or even a tornado. They should have multiple forms of communication - such as cellphones connected to different service providers - in the event cell towers go down. "Are you dressed for being outside" while you're chasing, he asked the crowd. Carry a can of spray paint so you can put addresses for destroyed houses or buildings on a driveway or street. There are many more items chasers should have in their vehicles, Piotrowski said, including: Rain gear Steel boots Medical gloves Flashlight Tow strap Chain saw Chasers should chase in groups so they can work together in the event of a tornado strike, Piotrowski said. "Chase where you know the terrain" so you can give accurate details and descriptions to emergency dispatchers or the weather service, he said. Not everyone is going to be comfortable dealing with injured victims, Davies said, but at the least they can keep drinking water and blankets in their vehicles for victims. Not long after the Hoisington tornado, Reed said, he took an American Red Cross class in adult first aid and CPR. He carries in his vehicle a first aid kit, extra water, blankets, lighting - "anything that might help should I encounter another Hoisington type of emergency." Storm chasers are often in a position to be the first on a tornado damage scene, he said. As a result, they need to be in a position to help victims. "That's incredibly valuable time when every minute counts," he said.
I don't know about you dummies but when they pulled up and STOPPED at the destroyed house, you could clearly hear the car door OPEN and when the video restarted, they were somewhere else. That tells me they DID get out of the car to check. Dumb asses.
Tami F what you prob don’t know is this video is an edited version of what he originally posted. The other video shows he turned around and drove off. Without even calling first responders.
@@tclark1122 literally your logic doesn't make sense. It could be edited to cut out places where he was on the phone with someone. Or out looking at a house. It's 3 minutes of video with like a minute on each take. Why are you the authority on what's cut out of his videos?
Mskelcievoelkl because I (And MANY OTHERS) actually SAW his uncut version when he first posted it. This video was edited a few hours after he posted it. Then unavailable for a few hours then when it came back it was edited. It’s even talked about in the previous comments. (Unless that was deleted too).

Dude should have stopped when he saw the house down and looked to help those injured .. An experienced chaser would have .. I've seen Pecos Hank many times stop and render assistance .. Hell , he's even stopped and helped animals injured by these storms : : : : : : :
Not that this is a pissing contest by any means, shouldn't be naming or comparing other people (am also a big PH fan). But do we know if this guy stopped and helped? No we don't. That's the obvious thing to do.
We all know you are a respected and a good chaser. But please, focus on the driving and the road and use a chase partner to get film and watch the sky. You were all over the road, especially in the beginning - to the point that truck had to flash his lights at you to get you to move back to your side. The chaser community does NOT need another accident caused by not watching the road and following rules. Please.
How about “When you see a row of freshly leveled homes, stop to render aid if needed.” admonishment, then get on to him about how not to kill more people.
You know as well as the rest of us the FIRST rule in the game is stop and render assistance. Multiple fatalities including at least two children were reported by Law Enforcement so ask yourself could you have saved one of those lives had you stopped?
Nanny State NoNo's yep. Spoiled rich kid who thinks he’s a storm chaser because his mommy and daddy bought him a vehicle and a camera. Total narcissistic prick, IMHO. Hope the community casts him out like the garbage human he is. Jerk...

Sickening footage. Not just the tornado, but also your blatant disregard for road safety and your failure to help the possible injured/dead when arriving at the scene in those crucial first moments after the tornado has hit. Your thoughts and prayers will mean nothing to them, and neither will they clear your conscience. You don't need to be this close to be able to know where the tornado is going and warn those in it's path, just look at guys like Bettes, the Castors or the Piotrowskis. I've seen enough of your video's to safely conclude it's pretty much all about getting as close as possible for the views. This is the last straw for me, I will no longer be supporting your channel.
@@jeremyAyeH He doesn’t need to go do shit when he’s got proof right there that there is no excuse for what he did. Now get out of here and just go back to watching your favorite man child screaming at a tornado. You clearly don’t know what you’re talking about.
It's 3 minutes of video that's been cut repeatedly. Why are you people so dramatic with assuming he didn't help or call? What if he called or got out while the camera was rolling and just, I don't know, spared you the conversation?? Like every single one of you would step on a open power line ripping into someone's home to "help". You think you see a few videos of tornadoes and your all suddenly experts on what to do. You would be cowering. You wouldn't know how to help until some church organizes it for you. Most of you arent even certified as a storm spotter or KNOW that the NWS offers such a program to you for free!! And you @Melissa Bee. If you watched more of their videos you would be how many times they verbally say they're stopping chasing to find somewhere to help. Thanks for assuming his nature. By your comment you're just as good of a person as you're pinning him to be.
He posted it before then pulled it to sell to TWC and whore up to the former Mr. Abrams. Several people on here noted this. That left no time to either check for victims or transport patients to hospital. Another thing you Peake peckernecks overlook- no emergency services is ever 100% staffed and most in rural areas have even less resources. Their response time is delayed by debris and they need every hand they can get.1 day, your boy will be visited by the ghosts he brushed past to be the vulture he is now. I live in southern England and the latest BBC News has said that the death toll now stands at 23. I hope for your sake that that number does not include any of the residents of the properties you passed in this video. I'm no expert whatsoever in this field and for that reason it may be very unfair of me to give an opinion on this, but I have watched enough of these videos to know that if it is safe to do so, you stop and check to make sure people are OK. My dream is to visit the US and witness tornadoes with my own eyes but in a careful way, respecting these storms and their power, as well as helping anyone who may be in trouble. Not like this.
@@brandonware4375 More per square mile than anywhere else in the world, they're just rarely ever big enough to cause much damage or be spotted on radar to be able to chase, add to that our lovely, almost constantly rain wrapped systems and well you can see why storm chasing doesn't happen on our little island much. The US is the only place where tornadoes regularly occur on the Fujita scale, so that's where to go if you want a chance to see one.

GottaWannaDance Well that’s on your life, yes at least you helped but it is different for every situation. You never know you might die, where other people didn’t die even though they helped. It depends, if you wanna be in danger then do it. No one is going to stop you from doing what you wanna do, it’s your choice and if anything happens or bad things happened to you then at least you tried but always know that before you help or anything dangerous or risks make sure it is safe before helping because nobody knows when you will die or get injured. But, hey at least your alive and helped people, no one stopped you because it is dangerous but basically what you are saying right now is you just asked your own question. I’m not saying I will stop you or everybody from helping each other, what I’m saying is common sense and that think before you do anything because it’s too risky to do that type of stuff even though it’s nice to help, you can die trying to help and they could also die without getting help.
Why make excuses for this punk? Btw, explain how me helping someone during a tornado is putting their life at risk? Then, explain how mario andretti isn't?

How long did it take for emergency crews to make it there otherwise? It's a haunting thought given the known casualties. Visibility in Alabama is nothing like in Kansas and the Midwest, where the topography is really flat with very few trees and hills. We have many trees and hills in "Dixie Alley", plus they're typically rain-wrapped, can occurr at night, (I know this one didn't) therefore, harder to see, even in broad daylight. Even in broad daylight, the other factors I mentioned still make them harder to see.

Most importantly, I want to express my deepest condolences to everyone that was affected by these tornadoes. In having some storm chasing experience myself, I just want to start out by saying that, assuming it was safe to do so, I totally agree with everyone that said he should have stopped. First of all, safe professional and amateur storm chasers only storm chase in the Great Plains where roads are predominately straight and oriented in North-South grid-like patterns. This makes it easier to navigate towards or away from the tornado because the roads are predictable. Also, trees are sparce and there is very little undulation in the terrain, making it easier to see oncoming traffic and, well, the tornado. Furthermore it is much less likely that you will impede the movements of emergency personnel simply because the population density is so much lower, so there is less of a chance that a tornado will result in casualties or damage to infrastructure. As far as the question of whether a storm chaser should attempt to help anyone that was caught in the path of a tornado, my answer is a resounding YES! Even though it may take special equipment and expertise to safely extract some people from the debris, the least you can do is go see if you can administer basic first-aid or if you should call emergency personnel. A friend of mine who is a professional storm chaser told me that after it's safe to do so, he and his colleagues always check to see if anyone is in need of assistance. I'm putting this all out there to point out that this is NOT a good example of how to be safe and courteous while storm chasing.
Fortunately, we experience nothing like this in my country. My sympathy goes to the people of Alabama and to all those who have lost family and friends.
@@appa3380 he almost hit another vehicle in the oncoming lane like his priorities are above everyone else. I couldn't be a cop because if I saw him do that Id be out of a job AFTER assisting the people who needed it. Then I'd take off my badge and weapons and pay him a visit.

I can't judge the actions on the perception of failing to check the safety of those affected by the Tornado. He was in an area of heavy RFD with potential downlines in the area. Too dangerous at that point. Driving over the centre line?. there could have been a nasty head on collision there thats what I can judge ;)
He could've and should've done a welfare check on victims. ZERO compassion. RFD dissipates quickly as for downed lines - drive over and around them. BTW 99% of the time power is out after tornado of that intensity goes thru. Don't make excuses for shitty behavior. You dont call it out you make chasers look bad.

I still remember this day. It was a nightmare. I lived in Smiths Station. The storm completely obliterated our neighborhood. Our roof almost completely came off, power lines were ALL over the road (to the point where nobody could drive around), many houses around us were entirely destroyed, most of the trees were gone, etc. It was the worst storm I had ever endured. LUCKILY. We were able to stay at my grandma's house in Georgia. I cannot imagine how bad it got at the house. The damage was so bad, we actually had to move. It was easily the worst storm I had ever went through. I still remember the panic attacks & mental breakdowns I had from that day as well
Morbid Massacre It was so bad, I remember that day and will never forget. I knew something was wrong. It hit a mile down the street from me. I could hear the roar.
I’ve been in many tornadoes from Texas to Kansas. I live off Hwy 51 near Marvin, Alabama. This tornado 🌪 made me cry for those that died, were injured, Especially tonight as temps drop 3 nights below freezing. How can you recover in such weather extremes? Bless everyone helping tonight in Jesus Name.🙏🏻
Wow. So many ppl criticizing this guy for not getting out and helping folks trapped in rubble...STOP IT. What did y'all expect him to do, put his life in greater danger by digging through unstable materials?? He's not a first responder that has the proper equipment to conduct a safe rescue, not to mention he sounded like he was alone chasing this storm. Also there was tons of debris, downed power lines, downed trees and possible broken gas lines. No way he could've rendered aid w/out putting himself at risk and becoming another victim.
Scott, in not at least stopping and shouting out asking if anyone needed help in all of those destroyed homes, you've just given a black eye to the whole of the Professional Storm Chasing community, and have undone their years of efforts to show the world that they, like the rest of us, are at heart compassionate human beings who value life over glory. A public apology for this behavior is in order here and I can see by the many negative responses that I am not alone in believing that. I would go so far as to report this vid as it clearly is the type which has caused many Chasers to lose YT funding but that would negatively impact all of them more than help you understand, and I'm in full support of them- but you're place on that list with them is gone now, Be a real Professional and do the right thing even if it hurts, because that's the difference between Professionals and low-lifes
As someone who has chased tornadoes and then watching this video I would say Scott Peake was totally irresponsible in this video. As the video ends and the tornado has passed there is a dwelling that is obviously been totally flattened just a minute or two before he arrives. I just can't fathom how he drives up to it and just turns around and heads back without ending the chase and running to the house to check for survivors? Just amazing lack of judgement and puts a black mark on chasers.
His supporters (ie pet trolls) are coughing up excuses like a cat does hairballs. The most idiotic is that saving lives is best left to professionals. Nevermind that no response team is ever completely staffed and even less so in this area. Add a disaster and they really are short of hands. Meanwhile he first posts here, then pulls it for editing and does an interview on TWC. No time to dig in or even bother to transport the injured to medical centers. Therefore he is to be shunned by the respected. 23 will be his lynchpin from now on.
The Beauregard tornado ended the record-long 673-day streak without a violent (EF4 or EF5) tornado in the United States since the last one touched down near Canton, Texas on April 29, 2017. It was also the deadliest tornado to strike the United States since the 2013 Moore tornado.

Doesn't look like EF-5 from what's shown, tree's stripped but not fully, structure destroyed, but debris still roughly in the same area, I'd say high EF-3, low EF-4, scary shit, still devastating.
I'm willing to bet half the commenters complaining about the driver wouldn't even hop out their car; but to be fair dude, you could've at least checked for survivors.
You see damage and LEAVE!?!?! How many families were pinned under that pike of splintered wood and nails? Your lack of humanity is absolutely disgusting.
Anyone know if they’ve specified the dimensions? Seems to be at least a mile wide; hard to tell though with such high overcast and rain-rapped conditions. I think this is definitely the most meteorologically interesting tornado since el Reno. The time of the year, the weather patterns, and the abnormality of such a giant tornado rated EF4 is something that should, and probably will be studied under excruciating extent.

Piotrowski urged chasers to alert law enforcement or emergency management personnel to imminent threats such as an approaching tornado. Don't assume they already know, he told the crowd in Denver.
(More: 10 Worst U.S. Tornado Outbreaks)
"Take the time to tell them what's going on," he said. "Just 10 or 15 seconds could save the lives ... of a lot of people."
If a tornado strikes a town or farm near where you're chasing, Piotrowski told the chasers, stop driving.
There are many more items chasers should have in their vehicles, Piotrowski said, including:
Rain gear
Steel boots
Medical gloves
Flashlight
Tow strap
Chain saw
Chasers should chase in groups so they can work together in the event of a tornado strike, Piotrowski said.
He carries in his vehicle a first aid kit, extra water, blankets, lighting - "anything that might help should I encounter another Hoisington type of emergency."
Storm chasers are often in a position to be the first on a tornado damage scene, he said. As a result, they need to be in a position to help victims.
"That's incredibly valuable time when every minute counts," he said.

What roads Were you traveling on? I live in the area took shelter but I am curious to know where the tornado tracked today
Amazing footage - great job! Took lots of courage.
What was the rating on this tornado ? Did people havee time to get to safety or was this a fast storm and there was no time?
Driving off to get footage was a disrespectful thing to do, shame.
"Oh my god..... serious damage" Doesn't stop to help survivors. Drives off.
You made no friends this day Mr. Peake. Do your storm chasing somewhere else next time...I wonder if anyone died because you failed to stop...
He doesn't care. I hope the fallout kills his career and he finally has to change his name and get a real job.
I don't know about you dummies but when they pulled up and STOPPED at the destroyed house, you could clearly hear the car door OPEN and when the video restarted, they were somewhere else. That tells me they DID get out of the car to check. Dumb asses.
This thing was huge! I wouldn't be surprised if it got EF4-EF5!
Mister Twister EF-4 for sure!
Doesn't look like EF-5 from what's shown, tree's stripped but not fully, structure destroyed, but debris still roughly in the same area, I'd say high EF-3, low EF-4, scary shit, still devastating.
EF4 seems very possible at this point
Your an idiot....
K.R. Burgess *you’re
I'm willing to bet half the commenters complaining about the driver wouldn't even hop out their car; but to be fair dude, you could've at least checked for survivors.
Great catch, hope the people in those flattened houses were OK.
Dont become part of the problem unless you are prepared
You see damage and LEAVE!?!?! How many families were pinned under that pike of splintered wood and nails? Your lack of humanity is absolutely disgusting.
SLOW DOWN ...
Thumbs down for driving like an idiot and not checking for anyone who might of needed help. The description says "Thoughts & prayers go out for those affected by today's tornadoes!" You know what really helps? Taking action and possibly saving lives, human and animal alike. Deplorable chasing.
Very sad about all the devastation and loss of life. 😞 Stay safe guys. 🙏
I live in GA. There was a tornado right by my house when it was all over and they showed of one of the trails of tornadoes. Good thing I was in the laundry room. I heard it and the trees were layed back. My house was not damaged thankfully
Dude why are you driving in to it ???????
Liberals. Like a moth to a flame.
@@RRRIBEYE
Idiots bringing politics and shit into everything. You are pathetic, really.
Because he’s dumb AF.
Hey dude. Did you speed up the vid half way thru, or were you actually flying down a rain soaked road at close to a hundred mph?
Yeah, dude, drive on your side of the road please. We know your excited, but you're putting others' lives at risk.
Hi guys look at this amazing tornado... Oh those people back there being crushed and suffocated in the debris, well that sucks... Now on to more video of this storm that is taking lives, those lives that I could not give less of a shit about.
PRAYERS
That happened not to far from where I live in Alabama. we had sirens going off in our town. They had us call the coroner's office to try and locate some friends after the tornado. Thankfully my friend and their 7 month old survived.
Glad to see that most people here said the same things that I was thinking. At least I know that there are still some people left with compassion for others.
I applaud your passion for the catastrophic acts of Mother Nature. Choosing to finish the race with the MONSTER in front of you was this days event BEST choice.
The Sciences are still learning. I’m very certain that there is an oddity in this storm you’ve captured that’s never been seen before that will inspire the heart and mind in those who discover to improve. The film is a contribution. Thank you.
Rest in peace to those who were lost in this terrible act of nature. Especially those little kids though. A lot were expected to have participated in graduation ceremony these past few weeks in may as well as be promoted to the next grade. Whoever seeing this as I post on memorial day morning, I came here to remember them. Terrible tragedy.
To counter all the hate that this guy is getting.. for any tornado enthusiast out there.. you'd know that this guy's work is epic. I'm not surprised it was Basehunters that got this twister.
I was there during that tornado. Me, my stepmother, stepsisters, cat, and Guinea pigs had to hide under a mattress in the bathroom. My older stepsister lost her friends niece who was only like 6. I almost lost my grandparents but the tornado skipped their house
Well would you look at that, it was an EF4.
That was my mother-in-law's destroyed house at the beginning and end of the video. She died there. Does anyone see her there on the video? We were told she was in the front yard unconscious. What time was this video made? Before the first responders arrived?
Can you turn the wipers off? Thank you
