Thierry Van Tillo I know right. Also when people waste hard earned money and take it to a oil change shop. Serious it takes less than 45 minutes to do it yourself and it's easy as hell.
I get mine changed, but that's because my car sits stupid low and i'm currently living in an apartment. It's just not worth the headache to get it changed myself. I have a reputable guy who changes my oil, so it doesn't worry me too much.
The point is, this is the reason why you have an odometer. Its pretty close to your pedia reminding you of your kids vaccine schedule, these thinga are quick, easy and saves a lot of time for costly repairs in the long run
My dealer charges $50, but I trust them so I feel it's worth it. And I've got an economy car. I've heard of $120 for a basic oil change for a luxury SUV. It seems high, but one can research maintenance costs for a particular vehicle before buy it. My dealer posts all the maintenance costs on a big board in the service bay. You can estimate how many miles you will be driving per year, add up the costs, and average them out over time and budget for it.
Even the cheapest ones lol, I lived in Oklahoma and you could get an oil change for 22, you could literally change it every 3k miles and still have extra since that oil that they would put was rated for 5k miles.
Jon Annon , around $75 is what a lot of dealers and shops in my area charge for a full synth oil change.lots of people don't know how, have the tools, the time, or a place to do it.
They figure they will trade it in at 30K miles so why bother with the expense of oil changes. They are probably giving it a oil change because it's about to get traded in.
Happens to chevy, ford, dodge, Hyundai and the list goes on. You got a bad one but that doesn't mean they all suck. But dodge does have a ton mpre issues though
I know a 28 yr old guy with a 2015 Kia Forte. He bought it brand new. Now has about 40k miles. I told him his car is blowing smoke from the exhaust. I asked him how often he changes the oil. He looked at me with a strange look on his face saying...'I didn't know cars needed an oil change'.
mus tang I was yelled at for that once. I happened to get a brand new rental car and I put 4000 miles on it, in 10 days. (i drove it across the country during my college winter break) the rental agent was NOT HAPPY lol
lmao!! well if they say you unhave unlimited miles you can drive during your rental idc how furious they would get i ay for unlimited so i will get my use out of it
A lot of people have no education about automobiles and have never had anyone teach them. The schools don't do it. A lot of misinformation out there. What I feel bad for is when they trade the car in after this the next person will not know until it's too late. That engine accumulated about 280K worth of wear in that 28K miles if not more and it might keep on going for a while but not that long.
That's exactly why I am forced to buy brand new cars. You NEVER KNOW what the previous owner did unless they hopefully have supporting documentation. Luckily some quality shops report your oil changes to CarFax.
@@CarMaintenanceGuy The good news is that there are cars out there with full service histories. You just have to look for them, though. I won't say it's easy but they are out there. Never buy from a used car dealer, either. A new car dealer selling a used car is most likely to have the best stock because they will get rid of the crappy trade-ins and keep the good ones. Private sales CAN be good, but you never know.
@@MaestroTJS I have NEVER, EVER had good luck with a single used car I've ever bought in my entire life. Better to just bite the bullet, buy brand spanking new, pay it off and keep it for 15-20 years. Don't buy a bottom of the barrel car. Buy something with all the tech so that you will enjoy all that tech for the next 15+ years.
@@CarMaintenanceGuy My family has always had good luck with used cars. The new ones didn't seem to be any more reliable, actually, especially since many of them seemed to need a few corrections early in the ownership period. Do you live in an area where there is lots of flooding or maybe unscrupulous people bring cars from flooded areas? I know those can be some of the worst and also most difficult to spot. Anyway, you do the right thing with your new car by keeping it a long time. Some people buy new and then they buy new again after a few years, which is really dumb when you consider the depreciation hit you're taking. Videos like this are pretty scary, though, I must admit!
Well you shouldn't. Modern engine plus modern long life oil work wonders. Though I do not know the oil specs KIA uses. I only hope they put oil that matches the KIA specifications. Then this could go another 30K miles without problem.
You might be surprised to learn that regular synthetic car engine oils can go even 60k miles between oil changes if there is a very good filter installed to prevent particles from clumping together and growing in a snowball effect. One filter type which can help prevent the snowball effect of growing particles is called a bypass filter. There are no cars from the factory with such a system so pushing over 20k miles on an oil change with a regular filter is increasingly risky but doable, as you can see in this video. There are some videos on UA-cam showing 60k and 100k miles on an oil change without a bypass filter and the engine remained in operation after an internal cleaning without a major overhaul. My point is that you should not buy into the myth of super short oil change intervals. Almost all new cars without special filters can run at least 350 to 450 hours hours between changes on modern synthetic oils. Keep in mind most drivers average a speed of 35 mph over the life of their car assuming 50/50 city/highway driving.
I've got a good one. New Nissan Patrol 6 cylinder turbo diesel. Engine seized at 37000km (22k miles). Took to dealer for repair. Dealer "When did you have your last oil change". Owner. "Oil change? They run on oil"! Face palm. New engine.
I have a 2005 Corolla, bought new, changed oil to Amsoil at 500 miles. One oil change per year, every 25,000ish miles. Now has nearly 290,000 miles on it. Two years ago, I had to replace the valve cover gasket. Under the valve cover was a lot of nice clean aluminum with a golden sheen on it. Took a picture and tweeted it to Toyota and Amsoil. But yeah, most people aren't properly educated in car ownership.
That's because you're in like the .001% class of people WHO IS SMART. If everyone used Amsoil, their cars would run forever. But people are idiots and refuse to use it.
@@CarMaintenanceGuy that’s an absolute statement which is circular reasoning and a fallacy. The person is an outlier and has zero credibility in their statement.
@@wildmanofthewynooch7028 I have PERSONALLY done 25,000 mile oil changes with Amsoil MULTIPLE TIMES. And I am the one who drained the oil and saw how it came out. ZERO SLUDGE. So until you've used it, you have absolutely NO PLACE to judge. An oil company doesn't stay around 51 years making oil that says "25,000 mile oil changes" on the bottle that doesn't deliver. A company that made that and was blowing engines all over would have gone out of business the very first year, let alone stay around 51 years.
Back around 1980 I knew a guy that had bought a new Ford Van and it had over 60k on it and he had never changed the oil. He was convinced that oil didn't wear out and he only changed the oil filter periodically and added a little oil occasionally when it got low.
if i were the technician doing the oil change i would have got my service manager showed the condition proven that that was the cars first ever oil change at 28,000 miles and recommended that all warranties be void from this point on and explained to the abuser/owner of the vehicle why they no longer have a warranty.
When I worked at a lube shop I was am amazed at how far people would go between oil and cheaping out on oil. Oil is the life blood of the engine. And by far the cheapest and easiest and most important preventive maintenance that can be done.
That's y people get kia or hyundai .. it requires minimum maintainance and not deal with agent expensive maintainance .. so that they r best selling cars worldwide
What type of oil does kia use? We het a VW polo with 45000km or 28000 miles when it had its first service and the oil was dark but not dirty like this, still looked normal, car was 3 years old, one of our technician purchased the car and it now has over 310000km on without any work done on the engine internals...?
The Metal Butcher lol. This isn’t shitty Kia of the 90s anymore. Ppl who hate on Kia or Hyundai have never owned one, let alone driven one in the past 10 years. Much, much better cars now and have been for awhile. Surprised the engine even lasted that long without an oil change.
KIAs and Hyundai’s are nice little economy cars as of the past 10 years, I mean it ain’t no Honda or Toyota but at least it’s not a Chrysler or something
Nope I work at a Nissan dealer and the new jukes come turbo. We have had like 2 or 3 people with 30k miles on them who maybe had one oil change. Of course now they run into turbo problems. One would think that said toasted turbo would be covered under warranty. However we covered them. Although it depends on the dealer, in most cases they would cover it, because it is easier and cheaper to cover, than it is to possibly be sued (even though they don't have a case and would lose, the company would still have to pay lawyers and this and that) and to lose a customer. Plus in most cases even if the dealer declines they can call Nissan consumer affairs and they will tell the dealer to cover it. Now that isn't in all cases, so don't go neglecting your car, then when its not cover blame me, but I'm just saying I've seen it twice :(. Now when I worked at kia, we wouldn't warranty that kind of stuff, so I guess it also depends on manufacture.
Well damn sucks Cadillac and gm weren't so pussy about extended warranties lol. Even with regular 3k synthetic oil changes still wet through 3 timing chain sets at 69k, 84k and after the 108k failure I scrapped the srx.
Chris Atkinson Did you have proof of said oil changes. If so did you call gms consumer affairs number. Like I said some dealers might deny it, but if you call the consumer affairs number and complain enough you might get your way.
Kevin Weil yes had receipts and pictures of the mileage. Plenty of documentation but it's funny they issued a courtesy recall on the timing sets for 07 and up but the problem started with the 04 3.6 engine. They also had a courtesy reprogram of the oil life monitor because factory oil intervals were 15k even though I followed the nor all 3-5k on that truck. Gm knew there was an issue but didn't really care. Fought with customer service for months and nothing. Another reason I'm not buying American anymore lol
Why do people continue to neglect such a simple maintenance item on a car. I mean shit the computer even reminds you when to change the oil so in this case the owner was just negligent as can be. I change the oil in my MB every 10k miles (as recommended) and use synthetic oil plus a fleece filter and it runs like a clock. It costs me right around the $100 mark which is way cheaper than getting engine problems down the line.
Save yourself $70, and change the oil yourself. It's like a 30 minute thing, and half of that is just waiting for all the oil to completely drain out. Most gas stations that do oil changes will take the used oil for free. The auto part store will also take it. It pretty much just gets filtered of debris, and then thrown back into the distillation tower at a refinery.
CmdrGendoIkari I do change my own oil. It's the 9 liters of Motul 5W40 and fleece filter that runs me $100 in my neck of the woods lol. I use a mityvac to drain the oil out of the dipstick tube, too lazy to remove 15 bolts to remove the skid pans underneath the car to get to the drain plug.
Djonkie Bonk Gebusss, is a lot of that the filter? I can buy various brands of oil in 5 quart jugs for under $30 at both local auto parts stores, and every gas station. Of course, my stupid car's filter happens to be about $5, and only needs 4.6 quarts of oil. Yeah, that would suck if you had to remove any skid pans to reach the oil drain plug, so good to have that alternative.
I just don't trust these Grease Monkey type establishments. They ruined one car's engine for me when I was a teenager not putting enough oil or antifreeze in it so the motor overheated and blew on the Interstate a few weeks later, and that was enough for me. I do my own vehicle maintenance ever since.
CmdrGendoIkari I'm in Canada and the cheapest I can get 229.5 approved oil for is around $40 per 5L jug. Lots of places sell it but price is within $1-$3 per jug. Engine takes around 8.5 liters of oil. There are cheaper paper filters but a fleece filter is recommended and costs around $15. Local dealership wants $320 for just oil change and good indy shops $170.
Rofl ! In Europe manufacturers recommendations are easily up to 10-15K between oil changes, or even 20K for diesel engines !!! Those cars can do 100 K, 200 K or more if you drive them with some care.
How are the bearings not spun on the engine with oil like that??? I made the disastrous mistake of driving only 1 year without changing my oil and the effects did not take long at all to catch up with me. Now I always check my oil level, condition, always let the engine run for 10-30 seconds before putting it in gear and never smash the gas with the engine cold.
Brians Life that's an important quality for a commuter car to have. They serve their purpose quite well, it seems. My mom didn't change her oil for 2 years in her old volvo. She only noticed it when the valve tap became noticeable, by then it was too late. Thing lasted 2 years though, lol.
Bo Biscuit conventional at 15k with a crappie filter will do nightmares, at least it was the proper weight to begin with. Jiffy lube will ruin your shit, I've seen them take out 5 or 6 cars personally.
My rule for over fifty years is I change my oil when I can't see my dipstick oil measuring lines through the color of the oil. Never had a engine problem. I use Walmart Super Tech full synthetic. It has all the fancy letters and numbers. No need for pretty bottles and endorsements. Walmart is SN plus,GF5, and has the API seal of approval. That's all you need to know.
This video gave me anxiety. I change my oil every 3,000 miles because I’m paranoid like that. Working on aircraft with strict time intervals probably did this to me lol.
Prince Noah oh they will I had a beater farm truck than I never changed the oil in it in over 7 years. It's just hard on the motor being there's no resistance so everything wears out fast being the moving parts just bounces around alot faster than they should. Think of it as little oily marbles when it's new oil. so as it gets oil those little oil marbles break down and make it oil like soup and there for there's no resistant.
Baerchenization what the hell do You drive? I Use full synthetic and always change it at 10 000 even though the computer says it's get another 3000km to go.
Actually I just googled this after posting, and it seems this is recommended for all models for the longest time... it is a Porsche, I doubt they of all manufacturers give bad advice on how to fuck up you engine. Rather wondering what kind of salad oil this guy was running on...
It can but the owner of that vehicle will not get very much more out of the engine. I doubt that car will make it to 100,000 miles without major engine repair or replacement.
Is that synthetic oil ? Would you try to clean it up by say put regular oil in it and drive for an hour to circulate it and heat it up real good. Come in while engine is hot and change the oil and put Mobil One in it and go say 7k and change it and evaluate what comes out ?
You got to love these people, I once hade a guy come, and say yeah my check engine light is one. So I look it isn't his check engine light, its his maintince soon light. So I say "this isn't your check engine light, this is your maintince soon light." He ax "what does the mean." So I say "when was your last oil change." "he says I just had my oil changed like 10k miles ago I don't need no damn oil change." Took his key and stormed off. We all laughed :)
+Kevin Weil - Many years ago a friend during a dinner ask me to help check "A light that came up in the dashboard a few weeks ago..." dinner over we steeped outside key in the ignition, start engine... Oil pressure light totally ON. Dipstick check and nothing :-O After an OMG moment. Breath deeply and explain in a Zen state WHAT THE HELL IT WAS... Guess I was a bit harsh but hopefully he started being more careful. Another friend gave me a ride, after awhile on stop/go traffic engine warm, starts to fail idle and dying on him. Restart no problem and carry on, when we arrive I tell him to pop the hood, dipstick out and only moist showed on the end . After 2 liters of oil in (1 liter between min/max) engine runs smooth and idle perfectly...Shit I still have more friends. LOL It's amazing how many people don't care absolutely nothing and end up paying for new cars because of stupidity like this.
There's only one thing that comes to my mind that hasn't already been touched on in previous comments. What's the "oh crap" about at the very end of the video?
This is super helpful in showing what failure to do proper maintenance actually results in. I loved this. Thanks so much for posting. I hear stories from mechanics of people not changing oil for 20k or 30k but seeing the actual video makes it a lot more real. Thanks for taking the time to make and then post this video. Glad it has so many views. It deserves them.
That’s criminal. When I was a kid working in a neighborhood gas station, an old guy brought in a ‘50 Chevy. Those were the days when non-detergent oil and no oil filters were commonplace. I pulled the drain plug and nothing came out. Apparently, there was a thick layer of sludge and dirt lining the bottom of the oil pan. I stuck a screwdriver in the drain hole and broke through the crust allowing the oil to drain. We refilled it with fresh non-detergent oil and away he went. It would have been interesting to pull the valve cover and attempt a valve adjust through the goo. Those old Chevy sixes were tough engines.
박도현 it's his vehicle, if it makes him feel good knowing he is taking very good care of it , it's not wasted money. after all its NOT a lot of money ,is it.
I'm not a fan of GDI either but it seems the auto industry is forcing us down that path. I just bought a '17 Sonata. My first GDI car. At 9000 miles its running great and excellent mpg. Uses no oil. I do hyper maintenance every 3300 miles. As long as the intake doesn't coke up I'm going to see if I can get the 200k mile mark trouble free. If the valves coke I'm trading it off.
@@dougn2350 How do you tell if the valves coke? I made the mistake committing to a “GM rewards card” and have a 1.4l GDI. Changing my oil every 3k miles so I hope I can get plenty of life out of it.
My bike recommends every 6k miles and with the high quality oil I'm sure it would be fine but I change it normally every 2,500-3,000 miles just for peace of mind. At about $20. A quart it does get a little pricey but it's worth it to me. Car on other hand I follow the recommended. I think the performance of an engine and how the vehicle is used plays a big part of that.
I usually use Shell Helix Ultra 0W40. After 13,000 Km its quality starts to drop. Fuel consumption increased, so I change it for the new one. What happen to these people?
You really should have measured what came out of the pan and the filter. What was that, maybe two or three quarts? How low was it? I imagine the oil was never topped up. My OCD self would want to do a full engine flush on something that bad before putting in new oil.
To think that I feel I'm neglecting my car when I go over 500 miles on my 5000 mile interval oil change (manual states every 7500 miles) schedule with Mobil-1 0W-20 and a Mobil-1 oil filter.
That’s the last engine you want to push off oil changes on, isn’t that the Theta II engine? The one where the GDI ones are recalled for crappy rod bearings? (The non-GDI ones have the same crappy bearings, but for some reason aren’t included in recall.)
I only change my oil every 25K miles. use amsoil fully synthetic with wix oil filters. had no engine problems whatsoever until I hit the 325K mileage mark when I blew a head gasket. if you get top of the line synthetic oil, then I think you can go a long time without changing oil. but 28K miles is really stretching it.
I've had cars that have made it to 250k with NO ENGINE issues! No gasket changes, no repairs, nothing. The secret...1-Don't beat on the engine 2- OIL CHANGES EVERY 4K MILES ( SYNTHETIC)! It doesn't matter if the oil is still clear and thick. I change that bitch 4k and not a mile above.
aky19832001 Ok, change your oil at 1000 miles and im sure you will get years of service readability all while not doing any form of engine work. Changing synthitic at 4000 miles is a severe waste of oil and you should do some research on the life span of synthetic oil.
crashandburnbirner Go by the engine manufacturers rating, not by the oil manufacturers. Different engines put the oil through different stresses. A Boxer engine puts enough stress on most oils to cause them to sheer and burn, while those same oils are just fine in an average inline 4. I wouldn't go over 4k using synthetic in any of my Boxers, though many cars may safely do so.
i have a 2015 madza6 and i went 20k over my last oil change and the car was riding fine, but when i went to get my car serviced 4 days later my engine locked up. is it because i went 20k miles over my last oil change or did the mechanics do something wrong ?? please answer i have to get a whole new engine now
Thats just the highest point, where the water in the air condenses inside the motor. mixes a bit with the oil and makes some sludgy gunk. Kindof common actually unless people wipe it each change.
ThomasXp 42 years driving, never seen pudding on an oil cap ever. change oil 3000 miles. if there's pudding like crap on cap, it's like that in the engine too. my sister's a moron when it comes to auto maintenance. she'll go 10 20 thou between oil changes. a while back she had an 8 year old Mazda kept over heating. they tried everything to fix, thermostat replace, nope, brand new radiator, nope. finally they remove valve cover, engine is so sludged up with thick goo and hard baked on crap, gets hot and engine block can't cool down. since then she is better about oil changes, though still not frequent enough for me.
You are JUST OVERSERVICING THAT CAR SO WHAT I DID NOT CHANGE THE OIL IN 29000. MILES, ITS GOOD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT YOU DO NOT HAVE TO GET RID OF MY USED OIL EVERY 3000 MILES!! JUST KIDDING I AM 38 YEARS IN THE AUTOMOTIVE DIESEL INDUSTRY.LMAO
It's more like " the salesman said It wouldn't need any service until 30k miles" when I work as a Honda technician we always had upset customers because the salesperson told them you didn't have to do anything for 100k and we recommended services at 15k intervals.
It's the guys who change their oil too frequently who are the idiots imo. Burning your money. You've got to find the right balance. Just cause golden new motor oil turns black doesn't mean it's gone off. Obviously you don't want to wait till it's gloopy-sticky-gum oil, but an oil change every 4,000 miles? Madness imo.
Depends on the car. I have twin turbos on mine and I run it pretty hard. I do mines every 3-4k which is on the high side compared to people that own the same motor
Anthony Coenen depends on the car and the oil. Full synthetic on newer cars can net you 10k miles. Slightly older cars with blend oil can do 5k. Run conventional oil and expect 3k.
Yes depends on the car and what you’ve done to it. My Subaru sti built block uses valvoline synthetic and I change it every 3000-3500 that’s what most people do for these cars. It honestly doesn’t cost much and I only do it twice a year anyways
straydoggio agreed I used to own a 1956 VW and I changed by colour yes it was frequently SAE30 oil but had a gauze filter. There was not one ounce of dirt on that engine. For the moderns I do my oil every 6000 miles. Mechanic time served but I do understand not everyone is a mechanic sadly the missed service for some will always be around. Still mad though lol I keep my old oil for my classics rust proofing etc and the sheds.
Last year I bought a 2002 VW Beetle for a few hundred. It had various invoices to show it had been serviced inc oil change by a garage close to where the previous owner lived. I am convinced that it had never seen an oil change in the 62k miles it had been driven. The oil was like treacle and there was other work on the invoices that clearly hadn't been done - new coil leads (nope - they were original), pollen filter (it had been completely eaten away and the cabin air intake was full of leaves and spiders etc). I changed the oil 5 times abd put a chemical flush through it and it still wasn't clean so I took off the sump, washed it and the engine out with diesel, put a new pick up and pump on and only then did the oil run clean. Some owners do take their cars to be serviced but some mechanics are crooks!
Owner's manual says every 3 months or 3k miles, whichever comes first. (Manual is from 1984) I used napa synthetic oil. It's been 3 months, not even 2k yet, should I wait another 1k, or go ahead and change the oil? Same for another vehicle, except it's been 4 months and not even 500 miles since oil change. (This one is a '93)
I had a Kia Sportage come in idk 2010 maybe. For a check engine light. Cvvt code they had not cnanged it for 50k. Ha pulled the valve cover off and you could see what looked like two cams and bearing caps but under and wax cover.
That's why when I look at a Carfax and don't see any service record for the first 30-40k, I don't know what to think. Did they change their own oil? Did Jiffy Lube did it? Was it every 10k? But it's ok, the dealer just changed it at 40k, right? No.
So i havent changed the oil in my 93 mustang in 3 yrs scene it burns abit every 3 months i just add new oil to top it n thats like giving it a oil change n car is running strong

Pretty sure "big smoke" was also being sarcastic.
why would you pay someone $75 for something you can do youself that takes 10 minutes and costs 30-40$ (depending on what kind of oil u buy)
Jon Annon , around $75 is what a lot of dealers and shops in my area charge for a full synth oil change.lots of people don't know how, have the tools, the time, or a place to do it.

Oil change is a lot cheaper than a new engine.

You are such a smartass. lol
some people are ignorant as to how important changing engine oil is. some are just plain cheap.
They figure they will trade it in at 30K miles so why bother with the expense of oil changes. They are probably giving it a oil change because it's about to get traded in.
These engines are inexpensive. Junk yard sells 5 year old engines for $600-$900 for something with 80k miles.

If a motherfucker told me that and only showed me 1 receipt for an oil change, I'd laugh and and walk away lmao

This mechanic is not someone I'd want working on my car. All thumbs.
Would be interesting to cut open the oil filter and see what it looks like inside.
looks like shit
not much to see.
Well after the filter gets too clogged the bypass valve opens and your filter stops filtering entirely.
UreaSmith someone did it
Joe Allen Unless you have a FRAM filter, then it just collapses and starves the engine for oil!
Luckily some quality shops report your oil changes to CarFax.
but at least they know how to yell and scream for "inequality" in front of Universities
I'm surprised it drained so nicely. I was expecting molasses.
Well you shouldn't. Modern engine plus modern long life oil work wonders. Though I do not know the oil specs KIA uses. I only hope they put oil that matches the KIA specifications. Then this could go another 30K miles without problem.
doesn't look too bad, honestly. it flows quickly and no sludge build up. even has a gold tint. Maybe has been changed prior.
It was probably a good synthetic oil.
Electone_Guy it looked pretty bad for 30k, brown, almost wet

I've got a good one. New Nissan Patrol 6 cylinder turbo diesel. Engine seized at 37000km (22k miles). Took to dealer for repair.
Dealer "When did you have your last oil change". Owner. "Oil change? They run on oil"! Face palm. New engine.
Hahahaha
😂😂😂🤗
Technically he's right but the engine still needs lube. I'm quite sure he learn't a lot from this.
NotRocketSurgery Thanks bud, I'm going to have nightmares for a week now.
Most likely not the reason it seized. In Europe, the same manufacturers recommend to change oil before 30,000 km on some diesel engines...
I dont change the oil at all. I just change the engine because it is easy, cheaper and much better...

Do you drain the oil out of the old motor to put in the new motor? You can save even more money by doing that!
If you want a new car you can do it every 100k. I’d be surprised if it made it to 100k though.
Back around 1980 I knew a guy that had bought a new Ford Van and it had over 60k on it and he had never changed the oil.
He was convinced that oil didn't wear out and he only changed the oil filter periodically and added a little oil occasionally when it got low.

Hopefully you showed this to the dealer and their warranty was voided.
Living a life wanting revenge against people you've never even met makes you an awesome human being.
What next? Would you try to clean out the system or something?
Djonkie Bonk
Gebusss, is a lot of that the filter?
I am a bit surprised about how well the oil still flows.
28,000 MILES? WHAT!?!? i feel bad if i go more than 3000 miles without changing it...holy crap that person doesnt even deserve a car...
Boulevard Bobber I use mobile 1 synthetic and I still change my oil about every 5k to 6k miles.
My car recommended is 10k miles but I usually do it at 6k the longest I ever went is 8k
Rofl ! In Europe manufacturers recommendations are easily up to 10-15K between oil changes, or even 20K for diesel engines !!! Those cars can do 100 K, 200 K or more if you drive them with some care.
but thats in Km no?
we use miles in USA
10-15k... Is that about 7500 miles??? I bet those engines require QUALITY synthetic oil like Mobil 1?
How are the bearings not spun on the engine with oil like that??? I made the disastrous mistake of driving only 1 year without changing my oil and the effects did not take long at all to catch up with me. Now I always check my oil level, condition, always let the engine run for 10-30 seconds before putting it in gear and never smash the gas with the engine cold.
That's not a bad little engine if it lasted 30k. I've seen worse out of a 15k change.
Mr S A lot of people consider these throw away cars but they can take a lot of punishment and still work
Brians Life that's an important quality for a commuter car to have. They serve their purpose quite well, it seems. My mom didn't change her oil for 2 years in her old volvo. She only noticed it when the valve tap became noticeable, by then it was too late. Thing lasted 2 years though, lol.
Mr S my car is rated for 15k, almost comes out fine. Like that's what dodge recommends is 15k not what I let it go for
Bo Biscuit conventional at 15k with a crappie filter will do nightmares, at least it was the proper weight to begin with. Jiffy lube will ruin your shit, I've seen them take out 5 or 6 cars personally.
Mr S well my dart takes 5-40 synthetic, which is basically diesel oil so probably why it comes out fine lol
That's all you need to know.
what do you mean it's not covered by warranty??!?!?!
This video gave me anxiety. I change my oil every 3,000 miles because I’m paranoid like that. Working on aircraft with strict time intervals probably did this to me lol.
I didn't think a car could last that long without an oil change
Prince Noah oh they will I had a beater farm truck than I never changed the oil in it in over 7 years. It's just hard on the motor being there's no resistance so everything wears out fast being the moving parts just bounces around alot faster than they should. Think of it as little oily marbles when it's new oil. so as it gets oil those little oil marbles break down and make it oil like soup and there for there's no resistant.
Why not? Manufacturers state 20K miles for an interval now - that's only 8K more, doesn't seem thaaat excessive.

This is super helpful in showing what failure to do proper maintenance actually results in. I loved this. Thanks so much for posting.
Those old Chevy sixes were tough engines.

aky19832001 Ok, change your oil at 1000 miles and im sure you will get years of service readability all while not doing any form of engine work.
FCFordLord True, in the case of boxer motors, but in everything else you should be gtg.

The oil cap looks like a pudding
Jello pudding

Do you do a flush or atleast double change on these cars?
Oil analysis with a TBN, that’s what tells me what I can go.
Would you do an engine flush on this vehicle, what would you recomend to the owner?
Now remember these are the “mechanics “ working on your car when you bring your car to the dealership!!!
How much is a over tightening drain plig removal??????
Most likely a woman driver. I love when people complain their car is unreliable when they don't follow scheduled maintenance.
(This one is a '93)
Would you clean the oil strainer at the same time?
Two oil filters from the same engine?
I had a Kia Sportage come in idk 2010 maybe. For a check engine light. Cvvt code they had not cnanged it for 50k. Ha pulled the valve cover off and you could see what looked like two cams and bearing caps but under and wax cover.
That's why when I look at a Carfax and don't see any service record for the first 30-40k, I don't know what to think. Did they change their own oil? Did Jiffy Lube did it? Was it every 10k? But it's ok, the dealer just changed it at 40k, right? No.
Did maybe 2.5 quarts of used oil come out?
So i havent changed the oil in my 93 mustang in 3 yrs scene it burns abit every 3 months i just add new oil to top it n thats like giving it a oil change n car is running strong
Forgot to change my full synthetic oil for almost 2 years, no symptom of engine problems. am i in the clear?
Maybe, but you definitely shortened the life of the engine
hey Brian, I have a 2015 Kia soul 1.6L 6MT. Is a $25 conventional oil change every 3000 milrs good enough for this motor? thanks
Chris W Conventional oil is fine in most motors and yours. I just personally run synthetic in all my cars
Life of Brian thanks for the reply man. I'll trust your answer over the stealership in my city
Would this be an ideal moment to introduce some Seafoam in the crankcase to help clean up Years of Sludge ?? Thoughts on this…?
