I'm from India and we have an outfit kind of similar to dresses over pants. They're called Kurtis and kurtas and are basically a long dress with 2 slits on the side, it helps show the texture of the pant below while still maintaining the breeziness of a dress. I've tried pairing dresses with huge slits with pants and it definitely works for me. Thank you for making such an attainable and comprehensive guide especially for those of us who live in tropical countries, it had felt impossible to create interesting outfits until this video
@@beepwrld thank you so much for replying! its fascinating to see how sometimes trends mirror the traditional clothes of other countries. I've gotten such a confident boost and so many compliments on my outfits since I've started implementing your videos, keep creating amazing content
Kurtas/Kurtis are absolutely STUNNING. I grew up being very close with a family from Southern India, and whenever they went back to visit family there they would bring me something, a couple times it was a kurta/kurti. I always adored that style, and have kept those two they gifted me to this day, even though they would absolutely not fit me now, nor would I attempt to wear them! xD I know there’s some traditional garments worn in places like Indonesia and Vietnam that have a similar basic structure- a long tunic/dress over pants, often with the tunic/dress having slits up the sides- that are similarly gorgeous! Seems like some Eastern/Asian countries have had this dress-over-pants style perfected for centuries!!
everyone is putting slim and fit people when they are giving examples of outfits, and i can't help but think i could never look good wearing something like they do. but when people give examples of plus size models and outfits i see that yes, i can look this way too 🥺 thank you for adding those examples!
it has a great impact seeing your body type or features in someone that shows it in a good light everyday. it helps you to see beauty in your own body too. i noticed it when models with frizzy hair or big noses appeared more often on my pinterest board

This video is so good. It gives such a clear intro to layering. And it's so nice to see plus-size people used as the fashion inspo here. In so many video's they only show outfits on thin people, which is great but lacks a relatability for me. What looks good on one body type doesn't look the same on the other. So seeing people with bodies I can relate to makes this video just that much better. Thank you!
I wear berets all the time and I have a lot of vintage brooches. I'll pin one to a beret and it instantly adds an interesting layer to the outfit. This video has been one of my favorites! Thanks for posting.
It's too hot for layering in Australia rn but you can still do accessories! I have some brooches that are little plastic insects (with a brooch pin glued on with E6000) and I always get compliments on them! I ombre dyed some green pants the other day and they kinda look like spring onions so I was thinking of making a spring onion from fabric as a weird accessory haha
Ikr, it's the same for the PH, unless you're in the countryside, but as someone who isn't into sweating through 3 layers of clothes accessories are your friends. But I'm personally too lazy to do so and the most interesting part of my whole 'look' are my accessorized bags hahaha
Ugh this is also my issue in Mexico. It's too hot for layering. Bucket hats and accessories are my go to in spring and summer. Also breathable overshirt over anything to protect from the sun too haha but it's so hard to be stylish with this musch sun and heat
Some more accessories that work with layering: chunky socks folded over boots, sheer or lace/crochet detail socks under other socks where the detail peeks out, tights, fishnets, etc; gloves can be similar to socks. I like the idea of wraparound style skirts or skirts with slits over fuller silhouette pants.

This video is super helpful for a begginer and very easy to understand. the second after watching this video, all my fits improved tenfold.
Another thing to add with layering that wasnt touched on here: tights and socks! Tights under socks, multiple layers of socks, all three! Black sheer tights, lacy socks and a colored sock over it! Socks with strappy sandals! So many added options to consider :] same with leg and arm warmers!
You reminded me of my obsession with Ashlee Simpson's style in the early 2000s. She was the queen of punk girl layers, even her hair was full of layers! But when she rocked the pleated skirt over jeans, with two different belts, man, iconic.
love this! so helpful, and also just wanted to say that the balero shrug sleeve thingy is super easy to make if you know how to crochet, it’s easier than a full sweater but also looks amazing, and you can make fishnet ones that are amazing to layer over anything, because you can still see what you are wearing underneath. just pointing this out if any fellow crocheters are out there :)
@@ohffsreally pretty easy! there is a great tutorial by anna greene that shows how to do a fishnet one. i’ve only crocheted a few times before (making tea towels and things) and i cought on pretty fast. the tutorial makes it a lot easier too.

The most important thing is to match colours. You won't look good if you are wearing orange plaid coat, with a neon pink shirt and a grandma curtain coloured skirt. If you wear an orange plaid coat with a black or brown/tan shirt with a black or brown skirt, you will look a lot better, and you won't look like you just grabbed the first thing you saw in your closet that morning because you woke up 30 minutes late. Colour is the MOST important aspect of fashion and clothing, it doesn't matter about the brand of the clothing, or the price. Anyone can create a nice wardrobe for an affordable price if you focus on colours. I've been emo my whole life so everything in my wardrobe is black, other than the prints on the band shirts. Wear your favorite colour of clothing and match the tints of the colours too. The amazing thing about wearing all black clothing is that it goes well with everything, and you don't have to worry about the tint of black because it's all the same.
This is the video I needed. Stg I have looked up how to layer clothes (layering has always been a challenge for me despite being a fashion girly) and the only things that come up are examples, rather than formulas and explanations. Love this sm.
I literally fell in love with you As a person who dont have money for fancy clothing but still enjoy wearing creative outfits the way how I style them is really important Also the way you talk, inluding so many types of bodies etc is so comforting
THIS is the content that I wish other creators would make! I love the Indian way of layering with tunics or Kurta dresses over flowy pants or bloomers! I used to layer with sheer lace tops from DownEast, and bolero jackets and vests. I look back and realize I was actually pretty good at layering. I lost my style for several years and am finding my way back!
Love these tips. I love the layering style bc it is super sustainable as so many items can be reused for SUCH different looks (absolutely love the oversized white button up). I also love how you put so many plus size examples as a lot of layering tips or “editorial” seeming looks seem to cater towards skinny people. Overall this is so amazing and a I can really tell that you know your stuff when it comes to fashion!!!
You're right at the end I was so inspired by this video I quite literally went to my closet and layered one of my many button ups with a dress I haven't worn in a long while and now I have an outfit I am most definitely going to wear the next time I go out. Your video has also reminded me to 1) buy vests, 2) buy more sheer blouses, and 3) buy more pants.
S-o-o-o good!! Awesome tutorial! You organized the information expertly. I especially enjoyed your addition of both terms and images to accompany your verbal explanation of each layering technique. I also appreciated your tips regarding layering combinations that might not look the best such as avoiding tight, short tops/dresses over pants and your suggestion that dresses over pants, rather than jeans, seem to offer a more harmonious aesthetic. Your observation that accessories should also be considered as other layering opportunities expanded my awareness of layering. I can't imagine the enormous amount of work that you did to conceptualize, organize, and execute your presentations. Thank you so much for your effort - love your work
Omg I LOVE this video!! Layering is such a good way to make your clothes feel new again and resist the urge to buy more. I tried out layering two skirts on top of each other bc of you and loved it!! It gave a petticoat effect and was so pretty :) Mesh is a fabric that is great for layering and can be used similar to sheer! I have a mesh dress that I love to style kinda how you did the sheer one, sandwiched where either the top or bottom is showing and the reverse is covered! I also love layering fishnets on top of another pair of leggings. Another tip is for button up dresses. I love to unbutton them and wear them loose over my outfit, kinda like a duster or long cardigan or vest (i have a sleeveless one). It’s so unexpected! I feel like it’s the only way I personally will wear a dress over pants 😂
this video changed my life and I'm so insanely obsessed with the body representation in this video. I can see myself in the tips you gave and it makes me relate the video and connect to it quite easily. Bravo. Subbed n liked
I love the emphasis on options and what combos could be interesting! its nice that the message is very positively focused to individual wardrobes, rather than the idea that one fit _fits_ all.
This might have been the most helpful outfit video on UA-cam! You explained it so well and the examples really drove your points home!! I am a classic timeless basic girlie trying to get out of my comfort zone and this made it seem so much more doable!
I live in the northeast so it can be 40⁰ in the morning and 80⁰ in the afternoon so layering is essential. I can take off pants underneath dresses.. have been known to do in the car before I get out...lol, and sweaters under coats or blazers. Comfort is key for me since I have MS. I need to wear comfortable fabrics and need to wear flat shoes and use a cane. My purse has to be on the smaller size and cross body. I wear dresses over pants all the time. Love that but love jeans over dresses. I do slay it! You gave me some great ideas!
ugh every time i see your hair i love it more and more!! 😍 love these tips, i’ve started layering smaller tops over long ones, makes the fit so much more fun
i think my first "layering" inspiration was susie bubble! my highschool self was obSESSED with her over-the-top silhouettes layered with baggy jeans (EEK) and sneaks. also, my current fav layering piece is def a slip dress! love using them over and under pieces. what can't she dooooo (also your hair looks so good in the vid, my friend!!!)
I love your take on fashion. So fun, creative and not stuffy. I feel it also lends itself to using items we already have instead of needing to purchase more clothing. Feeling inspired to play around with layerint items in my closet! Thanks for a great video!
This is the first video I've seen of yours and I love your ideas but can I just say I love that you show people of all sizes/shapes / races thank you for that! 💕
This is such a good video (and I barely comment on videos). This video really shows how fashion and styling clothes can actually be FUN and it really inspires me to experiment more with different clothing styles. LOVE THIS VIDEO
I never thought of socks as being layering pieces, but truly having a lil scrunched down colorful sock between my shoes and the hem of my skirt just adds a lil ~something~ These are all such great tips, and I loved all the different reference photos!!
one of my favorite bases to use for a simple yet unique outfit is a tennis dress with a collar! if you put even a t-shirt over it, you get an interesting look! its a bit preppy because of the collar but more casual due to the t-shirt - pairing it with sneakers and crew socks makes it a bit sporty again. super simple but looks fun every time!
Great video! It is so enlighting as to why layered outfits just look so elevated and unique. Thank you for such a thorough in-depth analysis. The photos also really help visualizing the whole outfit. I'll have so much fun experimenting with layering!
Liz, you just make me smile all the time that I am watching you! Best smile! Great advice on fashion that is different than the trends. I will be 70 in July and you are talking my language all the time. Your ideas are timeless! Way ahead of the usual stuff! Awesome! Subscribed!
I never in my life considered layering skirts together (even though that's essentially what you do with a petticoat)...brilliant! Also, crop top over flowy shirt? *chefkiss* Thanks so much for the inspiration!
Thank you SO MUCH! This is probably the most comprehensive, inspiring and just generally fun-to-watch video on fashion I've seen recently. I already got a couple of ideas, and I'm someone who DREADS layering, so that says a lot. THANK YOU!
I really like a shorter flowy dress over jeans personally. But I really loved hearing your take and opinion on the dress over pants statement. I appreciate hearing and seeing different ideas even if don't think I would rock them myself. Thanks for putting yours out there☺️
Absolutely wear sheers OVER other things. I shop the black club wear section all the time and wear them over bright coloured Ts and bold print or patterned Ts. My favorite is my over sized black sheer T over a black T w/ the face of a white tiger on it, or the same sheer T over a bold tie dye.
I just got around to watching this, but I LOVE IT. You're really getting my creative juices flowing, and I'm saving the video to help me when I am staring helplessly at all of my clothes. Your content is so good, and I look forward to your videos!! Also, thank you for clear audio. I'm so tired of watching the other fashion people who don't care about volume control, and I can barely hear a thing they say.
9:43 honestly while I don’t have many I LOVE sheer/mesh/lace items specifically BECAUSE of the versatility. You can wear them alone, over things, under things, different texture/pattern/color combos
Another thing: pinning things up can really elevate outfits. An example is that you can put long skirt over a dress and pin the skirt up to show the dress and give the fit more dimension. Also you can put earrings on clothes to embellish it💕
I'm not sure if this is helpful to anyone, but my favorite dress over pants combo is a shorter, boxier pinafore over longer flared leggings. the leggings feel unexpected but also not too out there and the cut of the pinafore adds a bit of structure to the look
My go to combo this time of year is a turtleneck under a dress, but I recently realized my wide leg linen pants work under my silky dresses/skirts, and I can see that becoming a transitional season go-to the same way that a tank/tee and leggings under a sheer dress is currently. This video was great though and gave me SO MANY IDEAS. I gotta try layering a tank over a turtleneck since my brain always skips over that combo and, even though most my skirts are the same length, I can think of one double skirt combo that should work. I love vests and went out of my way to own the full gamut of styles, excepting a more fitted one, but they're under-utilized and having visual references was great! Also, this helped me figure out where I should still look for variety in the future; I usually discount items in heavier fabrics or with interesting sleeves, but I can see the value in having one or two now. Saved and will be referencing back to in the future!
Another thing: button up dresses. They work as dresses, and if you unbutton it, it can can be a long, flowy cloak-like vest or jacket kind of thing. I do this really often, and they look so good over basically anything when unbuttoned.
super inspired by this video! i’m a historybounder/vintage dresser and i was feeling caught in the rut of white shirt + vest/corset + colourful skirt (you would not BELIEVE how many white shirts/chemises/shifts i have). after watching this video i just tried on a bunch of new combos, especially playing with sleeve shapes and trying some bolder colour combos, and i’m really happy with the results! currently wearing four layers with 90 years’ difference between them and loving it.
P.S. i LOVE your outfit in the final section. the sheer buttonup with the big pointy collar and puffed sleeves is already to die for, and it looks so good with the green underneath-partially toned down by the overlayer and partially shining on its own.
THE SHEER LAYERS ARE SO CUTE. THIS IS GENIUS! Thank you for sharing! I love layering corset style tops on top of looser tops like blouses. That’s been my uniform lately 😊
Such a great video on layering! I'm feeling very inspired to try out some new outfit combos from my closet. Also side note, I love the variety in the photos you used. Seeing so many different people playing with fashion creates such a cozy and welcoming environment
I love the variety of styles used as examples in this video. Excellent job! In defense of jeans with dresses, I've layered skiny jeans under a thigh length dress in the winter with some long socks and boots over them. I'm sure you know the look I'm talking about. Add scarf, jacket, and fingerless gloves.. Maybe a cute hat. It's very comfortable and looks great. Very bookworm.
Like it was mentioned in another comment. Your videos are THE DREAM videos!! Anything else out there is all minimalist based… and boring or people still using skinny jeans with ankle booties. Your videos are so informative and give me so much inspiration ❤️ new fave channel!
You are by far the best of talking about layering! It makes so much sense and I learnt so much from your video😍 thank you so much! Your style is so fashionable but sustainable and can be worn daily and to everywhere! Exactly what I need as I've ben struggling to pair my colorful different texture items together and thought I should just give up and go with neutral boring colors 😭 you save me
I would really love a video about layering style in a very humid country because almost all of these requires clothings that makes it more hotter (and very not comfy for someone who easily sweats like me)
I do this more for warmth, but a baggier quarter-zip over a tighter crewneck/quarter-zip with a tshirt or turtleneck peaking out. Over ankle length joggers.
I really love, how you put different body types in your video.🥰 I sometimes find it difficult, to find nice clothes or styles for my body type, but this video is such a good insperation. Wanna try out new styles now! Thank you!🤩
Thank you for making this video! A lot of layering advice ends up only being suitable for cold climates, but I live somewhere warm. I can't wear a turtleneck under a sweater for nine months of the year. Your tips and general principles are much more versatile, and I feel so inspired!
I love your videos! You are so creative and your style is super-inspiring! One of the many things I think you do really well is that you show examples on all different body types. Thank you so much for that, and for being fun, creative, and wacky!
something i saw done well recently was someone wearing a quite short flowy white dress with jeans and i dont know what type i think just wide fitting and im ngl it was so cute i think they were wearing a black top underneath and it just looked so cute, sadly though i cannot wear jeans because they hurt me alot and even the ones that have fit me :[

this video changed my life and I'm so insanely obsessed with the body representation in this video. I can see myself in the tips you gave and it makes me relate the video and connect to it quite easily. Bravo. Subbed n liked
I really appreciate how you make sure to include different body types in your examples! Great video 🥰
Layering is a privilege for people that doesn't live in super hot places.
FOR REAL but even living in a tropical country i choose style over comfort (i always regret but never change !)
I'll just spray 10% aluminum chloride solution all over my body. Sweat is temporary, drip is forever
Privilege is a silly word.
Layering is different for different climates.
ugh every time i see your hair i love it more and more!! 😍 love these tips, i’ve started layering smaller tops over long ones, makes the fit so much more fun
Loovveee all the references! A creator that slays colours & layering is yohomegirl !!! ✨
i think my first "layering" inspiration was susie bubble! my highschool self was obSESSED with her over-the-top silhouettes layered with baggy jeans (EEK) and sneaks. also, my current fav layering piece is def a slip dress! love using them over and under pieces. what can't she dooooo (also your hair looks so good in the vid, my friend!!!)
I love your take on fashion. So fun, creative and not stuffy. I feel it also lends itself to using items we already have instead of needing to purchase more clothing. Feeling inspired to play around with layerint items in my closet! Thanks for a great video!
i ❤ doing a sheer/see through long sleeve top under a tshirt. it gives the layering without the warmth so it is great for really hot weather
This is the first video I've seen of yours and I love your ideas but can I just say I love that you show people of all sizes/shapes / races thank you for that! 💕
I really love how diverse your examples are
Never wanted a puff sleeve shirt until now. I’m shook.
I can't wait to try this out with my own closet! I'm willing to bet I can double my outfits now!
This is such a good video (and I barely comment on videos). This video really shows how fashion and styling clothes can actually be FUN and it really inspires me to experiment more with different clothing styles. LOVE THIS VIDEO
I never thought of socks as being layering pieces, but truly having a lil scrunched down colorful sock between my shoes and the hem of my skirt just adds a lil ~something~
These are all such great tips, and I loved all the different reference photos!!
one of my favorite bases to use for a simple yet unique outfit is a tennis dress with a collar! if you put even a t-shirt over it, you get an interesting look! its a bit preppy because of the collar but more casual due to the t-shirt - pairing it with sneakers and crew socks makes it a bit sporty again. super simple but looks fun every time!
Also you can put earrings on clothes to embellish it💕
7:01 idk if anyone said it alr but they r called shrugs i believe:D
I've seen sooooo many style tip videos amd layering videos and this one is by faaaaaar the most helpful, thank you so much!
I'm not sure if this is helpful to anyone, but my favorite dress over pants combo is a shorter, boxier pinafore over longer flared leggings.
the leggings feel unexpected but also not too out there and the cut of the pinafore adds a bit of structure to the look
No idea how I found this channel, but so glad I did!
in 6:36 you ask what the bolero-shrug-arm-warmer-crop-top-things are called and I think it's just a shrug
Thank you for the idea!!
i'm absolutely obsessed with this video and will be coming back whenever i can't figure out what to wear
so off topic, but I rly love and appreciate your inclusivity when imputing the imagery examples and outfit inspo, it was so refreshing
super inspired by this video! i’m a historybounder/vintage dresser and i was feeling caught in the rut of white shirt + vest/corset + colourful skirt (you would not BELIEVE how many white shirts/chemises/shifts i have). after watching this video i just tried on a bunch of new combos, especially playing with sleeve shapes and trying some bolder colour combos, and i’m really happy with the results! currently wearing four layers with 90 years’ difference between them and loving it.
P.S. i LOVE your outfit in the final section. the sheer buttonup with the big pointy collar and puffed sleeves is already to die for, and it looks so good with the green underneath-partially toned down by the overlayer and partially shining on its own.
I also love the look of leg and arm warmers they are so cute for layering
The thumbnails design was so pretty!!!
sat through this whole video trying to figure out who you reminded me of! finally figured out it was Maya Hawke
Seeing so many different people playing with fashion creates such a cozy and welcoming environment
the sleeve layering segment just blew my mind
watching your video it feels like a whole new world of possibilities opened up what 😭💕
Yes Liz 💕 such a good video!
Im so glad this showed up in my recommended! Absolutely love all the inspiration and ideas!!
Over ankle length joggers.
wow i've always loved layering but i didn't know so many things could be done! your video gave me clarity and courage to wear layering comfotably!
I really love, how you put different body types in your video.🥰 I sometimes find it difficult, to find nice clothes or styles for my body type, but this video is such a good insperation. Wanna try out new styles now! Thank you!🤩
OMG I have to try the triple layer sleeves! They look so cool, thank you for the idea!
Thank you for making this video! A lot of layering advice ends up only being suitable for cold climates, but I live somewhere warm. I can't wear a turtleneck under a sweater for nine months of the year. Your tips and general principles are much more versatile, and I feel so inspired!
I'm gaga about the sheer dress style!
My favorite pants an dress combo is a loose babydoll fit dress with loose straight leg jeans under it, I use it ALL THE TIME in style savvy lol
THIS is the definitive layering guideline. thank you!
This video helped me style a piece I’ve had for almost two years without ever wearing it!!! Thank you for this gift🤲🤲
I loved this video and the last one about how to style and get style in inspiration. I love your approach to style. I hope to find my own style.
I love your videos! You are so creative and your style is super-inspiring! One of the many things I think you do really well is that you show examples on all different body types. Thank you so much for that, and for being fun, creative, and wacky!
If you had a button on your page that would let us "play all" of your videos, I would do it!
queen of layering tbh, you've inspired me so much to try out new combos w your vids!
@@beepwrld ❤️!!
I love the tip to layer skirts over each other!!
something i saw done well recently was someone wearing a quite short flowy white dress with jeans and i dont know what type i think just wide fitting and im ngl it was so cute i think they were wearing a black top underneath and it just looked so cute, sadly though i cannot wear jeans because they hurt me alot and even the ones that have fit me :[
This is the best video on layering I've ever seen! Bravo 👏
your channel has grown so much ahhhhhh so happy for u!!!!! ur going so far i can sense it, i've always gotten best dressed vibes from u
Thanks for the creative ideas! Nice presentation!
