What is the Patterns Of Evidence Film Series?
Patterns of Evidence is a documentary film series that travels through the Bible, investigating evidence of its historical credibility, the accuracy of its transmission through the centuries, and how it impacts the modern world.
Timothy Mahoney is an award-winning investigative filmmaker, raised as a Christian, who now has the same question that many today are asking: Did the stories recorded in the Bible really happen?
In this film series, he sets off to seek answers by traveling to the locations where biblical events are said to have happened. Along the way, he interviews leading archaeologists and scholars from all over the world who argue all sides of the debate about the credibility of the Bible. The biblical stories are retold, accompanied by dramatic reenactments and special effects.
Patterns of Evidence lets the viewer draw their own conclusions as it takes them on a journey to the ancient world of the Bible. This refreshingly balanced approach is inspiring and intellectually challenging for both skeptics and believers alike, providing profound new evidence that affirms the Bible.
Thinking Man Films is the production company for the Patterns of Evidence film series and television programs. Thinking Man Media is the book publishing, curriculum development, and distribution company for Patterns of Evidence media.
-- Patterns of Evidence Films --
► "The Exodus" - Is the history found in the Bible credible? Is there any physical evidence to support the biblical story of the Exodus? An in-depth investigation by filmmaker Timothy Mahoney searches for answers to these questions amid startling new finds that match the Bible’s account of the Exodus from Egypt.
► "The Moses Controversy" - The film uncovers a new pattern of evidence that some believe link the Israelites to the world’s first alphabet. Was this a divine gift necessary for the Israelites to read the words given to Moses at Mt Sinai?
► "The Red Sea Miracle" - In this investigation Timothy Mahoney examines the journey to the crossing location, looking at two competing views of the Red Sea Miracle. The investigation raises giant questions about the real location for the crossing site and its implications on your view of God. The answers to these questions point to one of two very different realities.
► "The Red Sea Miracle II" - How could thousands of feet of water be parted at the Red Sea? Or was the sea merely parted by the act of wind in nature, through a shallow Egyptian lake? Mahoney investigates these locations to see if any have a pattern of evidence matching the Bible. This cinematic journey leads him to inquire… “Do miracles still happen today?”

The Ebal Curse Tablet discovered by Scott Stripling's team in 2019 and recently found to contain an Israelite inscription invoking the name Jehovah 4 times with a message reminiscent of religious observances described in the Books of Deuteronomy and Joshua helps the case for these inscriptions being Israelite, because the writing style on this little lead tablet they found is the same style as Proto-Sinaitic.
The script apoears in Egypt, then Sinai, then ceases to be used in Egypt, then suddenly appears at one of the sites the Israelites were said to have gathered at after entering Canaan, and the curse tablet describes things that the Bible also describes the Israelites doing at the same site and time.

      Not quite accurate. There hasn't been any of the scans and no papers published on any of this data so it's not been peer reviewed. The scrap was found in a re-sifted waste pile from an excavation done in the 1980s, not in situ. Dating is very preliminary, and is based primarily on Univ of Prague epigraphic analysis and by attemting to match the lead to a source.The scrap of lead measured 2cm x 2cm and contained around 40 characters which Stripling claimed were proto-Hebrew. Striplings team posed the following;
". . . an ancient Hebrew curse inscription consisting of 40 proto-alphabetic (equivalent to proto-Sinaitic) letters that mentions the Hebrew word for “cursed” (arur) ten times and Israel’s God YHWH twice! The deciphered message reads as follows:
Cursed, cursed, cursed - cursed by the God YHW.
      You will die cursed.
      Cursed you will surely die.
Cursed by YHW - cursed, cursed, cursed."
There is a great deal of skepticism if any of this translation is accurate.

I love how you present more than one side ! I guess you could call me a Rohl-ist considering that I got Pharaohs and Kings when it first came out ! My parents were PHD scholars trained in the classics and my mom in particular was very upset with the idea of re arranging Egyptian chronology ! I worked in factories and had no such prejudice ! I spent decades checking up on and trying to disprove Rohl`s re working of the Egyptian chronologies and still after all these years I am still a Rohl-ist ! Here however on Patterns Of Evidence you interview highly competent scholars from all sides of the question with openness humility and grace . Thank You Tim !

They do ditch Rohl's views in favour of pseudoarchaeologist Ron Wyatt's sensationalist claims, however - and that in the face of the Proto-Sinaitic inscriptions.
Serâbit El-Khâdim, where much of these inscriptions were found, is the ancient Egyptian site of Du-Mofka, 'Mountain of Turquoise', called Dophkah in the Book of Numbers. Jebel Musa - traditional Mt Sinai - is 3 days south. This follows the traditional Exodus route. The Israelites came to Dophkah after the Wilderness of Sin, where Yahweh first gave them Manna. The inscription pictured in the thumbnail mentions Manna!
But they came to Dophkah AFTER crossing the Sea, which rules out the Aqaba Sea Crossing/Saudi Sinai theories of Ron Wyatt, which it seems the Patterns folks have espoused 😬.
An inscription at nearby Wadi Nasb, an ancient copper mine, says "Now unto the Assembly and unto Hobab is the majesty of a furnace!" -Moses implored his brother-in-law Hobab 'the Kenite (metal-smith)' to remain with the 'Assembly of Israel' as a guide when they were pulling away from Mt Sinai.

One thing, for which I admire Timothy Mahoney, is his willingness to access the opinions of people, who are at odds with each other. Petrovich and Rohl are brilliant, but Petrovich exhibits a certain disdain for Rohl. And David Rohl is an agnostic, while promoting a new Egyptian chronology, beneficial to Biblical claims.

Great point at 13:05. Hebrews likely adopted the use of the definite article (the) from Egyptian writing which employed a definite article. The other semitic languages did not use a definite article.

    Genesis 41:45 Then Pharaoh named Joseph Zaphenath-paneah;
did the skeptical scholar consider that Joseph had an egyptian name given to him by Pharaoh? Or did he make up his mind that only the name Joseph could appear and none other, so of course he did not exist.
I also ask .and has this name Zaphenath-paneah or some form analagous appeared in inscriptions etc?
if such has then this closed minded "skeptic" is refuted and we have good evidence of Joseph.

The Egyptian temple in the Sinai called Serabit el-Khadim is significant because that is the first stop in the Exodus. The temple was a factory producing White Powder of Gold, ORMES, Orbitally rearranged monatomic element, to make the sacred bread. Moses was stocking up before hitting the road. Later, he “burned the golden calf” and fed it to the people. How do you burn gold?

I criticized Mr Petrovich enough so in this case I gotta say how cool it is and really how 4tunate it is to have a Proto-Sinaitic (or Proto-Hebrew, really) inscription connected to an Egyptian one that has an actual date! -after a fashion. From the reign of Pharaoh Amenemhat III, if I recall correct?
One of the tricky things the other more skeptical scholar mentioned was how it can be hard to give a date to the inscriptions based on hard evidence, but this example seems like a good place to start.

The oldest copies of Exodus (Septuagint, Samaritan Pentateuch) state the 430-Year Sojourn pertains to the time Abraham and his descendants were residing as foreigners without their own country, and even the Apostle Paul later states 'the Law Covenant made with Israel 430 years after Abraham's covenant with Jehovah', making it quite clear that the Israelites were in Egypt no more than 215 years. From Abraham's entering Canaan to Jacob's entering Egypt is exactly 215 years, in fact, and the 4 generations of Israelites who dwelt in Egypt don't allow for 430 year sojourn there, so it becomes clear that Mr Petrovich - as much as I value his work on this subject of inscriptions - is using his preferred understanding of the Exodus chronology to date the inscriptions rather than perhaps strict Egyptian evidence.
That's kind of dodgy, I think.
In his defense, Egyptians didn't strive to keep as precise chronological data as the Israelites did, because Egyptians were very much propagandistic - much like US President 45, recording and exagerrating and even inventing or taking credit for other peoples accomplishments, and denying their defeats, or not even recording them, or even erasing the achievements and mentions of monarchs they didn't like.
With the Bible/Israelites, you get the good, the bad, and the ugly, achievements and defeats, triumphs and humiliations.
The Book of Ezekiel records some important chronological data that I think most people ignore, a prophetic mock siege of Samaria/Kingdom of Israel and another of Jerusalem/Kingdom of Judah.
The sieges begin at the time each Kingdom earns Jehovah's disfavor. With Israel, this begins when their first king Jeroboam causes them to concentrate their worship at sites for calf worship so Jerusalem won't claim their allegiance. 390 days ("a day for a year") Jehovah decrees from the time Israel sins until they go off into exile with Babylon's overthrow of the land, the year Jerusalem is destroyed.
539 BCE is generally recognized as the year that exile ends.
Jeremiah says the exile is 70 years long, bringing us to 607 BCE.
390 years added to that takes us to 997 BCE as the year Jeroboam set up stations of calf worship, his first regnal year and Solomon's last of a 40-year reign, like his father David.
1 Kings 6:1 states the Exodus took place in the 480th year b4 Solomon's 4th regnal year.
Simply counting back from Solomon's 4th year of kingship gives an Exodus date of 1513 BCE, with Jacob entering Egypt in about 1728 BCE.
It's important not to cherry-pick, but consider all the Biblical data on this issue of the 430 Year Sojourn, and un4tunately, Mr Petrovich ignores other scriptural evidence that helps establish an accurate Biblical chronology.

I suspect that Moses knew the oral stories, and developed a phonetic aleph-bet from Egyptian hieroglyphics. He then wrote down the first (and still most accurate) history, probably on papyrus, genesis to Deuteronomy. The inscriptions in stone that we see are from hebrews who are just learning the ‘new’ form of writing, hence the crude letters and brute usage, and test aleph-bets that you see. What fascinates me is how many languages have almost the same letters in almost the same order based on the earliest Hebrew. An English A or M etc. can easily be traced all the way back.

Regarding 10:10 "Interesting" ---- There is one notable exception about the lack of a Joseph figure outside of the Bible. It isn't recognized because the accepted timelines don't add up. However, if scholars have messed up the timelines, you will want to look into Imhotep as being the historical Joseph in Egyptian records. The parallels are too much to be dismissed.
      Married to an Egyptian priestess
Serving as the most powerful person in the country except for Pharaoh - actually the first person to hold this position
Saved the country during 7 years of drought and then 7 years of prosperity (though reversed order, the biblical order actual makes more logical sense)
And the picture I saw painted of him from his time actually has him look physically different that the Egyptians. So, he was not a true Egyptian. I believe his skin color was different, and he is pictured with a stereotypical (of some Jews) hooked noise.
I believe their are other similarities as well, but I'm working from memory here. Those are the highlights I recall.

I'm just wondering, as the Proto-Sinaitic scripts is considered the earliest trace of alphabetic writing and the common ancestor of both the Ancient South Arabian script and the Phoenician alphabet, is there any possibility that the scripts were already exist during the life of the prophet Abraham? Especially he was in Egypt for some time in his life. Or even, it is Abraham himself and his family who introduced such scripts to the people where they lived with?

It says in inscription that the eldest son of the Pharaoh (Yanassi) was supposed to be the next king, but suddenly got swapped with his younger brother (Apophos). The book of Jubilees teaches that Enoch was the FIRST to learn writing and that he wrote books for his sons to read. How were his sons able to READ what he wrote? How was the Bible able to QUOTE him? His sons must have been able TO READ or the books would have been USELESS!
And in the eleventh jubilee Yered took to himself a woman, and her name was Baraka, the daughter of Rasujal, a daughter of his father's brother, in the fourth week of this jubilee, and she bore him a son in the fifth week, in the fourth year of the jubilee, and he called his name Chanok. And he was the first among men that are born on earth who learned writing and knowledge and wisdom and who wrote down the signs of heaven according to the order of their months in a cepher, that men might know the seasons of the years according to the order of their separate months. And he was the first to write a testimony and he testified to the sons of men among the generations of the earth, and recounted the weeks of the jubilees, and made known to them the days of the years, and set in order the months and recounted the Shabbathoth of the years as we made them, known to him. And what was and what will be he saw in a vision of his sleep, as it will happen to the children of men throughout their generations until the day of judgment; he saw and understood everything, and wrote his testimony, and placed the testimony on earth for all the children of men and for their generations. And in the twelfth jubilee, in the seventh week thereof, he took to himself a woman, and her name was Edna, the daughter of Dan'el, the daughter of his father's brother, and in the sixth year in this week she bore him a son and he called his name Methushelach. And he was moreover with the angels of ELOHIYM these six jubilees of years, and they showed him everything which is on earth and in the heavens, the rule of the sun, and he wrote down everything. YOVHELIYM (JUBILEES) 4:16-21 את CEPHER
And he testified to the Watchers, who had sinned with the daughters of men; for these had begun to unite themselves, so as to be defiled, with the daughters of men, and Chanok testified against them all. And he was taken from amongst the children of men, and we conducted him into the Garden of Eden in majesty and honour, and behold there he writes down the condemnation and judgment of the world, and all the wickedness of the children of men. And on account of it ELOHIYM brought the waters of the flood upon all the land of Eden; for there he was set as a sign and that he should testify against all the children of men, that he should recount all the deeds of the generations until the day of condemnation. YOVHELIYM (JUBILEES) 4:22-24 את CEPHER
Noah ALSO had the ability to WRITE and left books for his sons before his death. How was this possible UNLESS he and his sons could ALSO READ.
And Noach wrote down all things in a cepher as we instructed him concerning every kind of medicine. Thus the evil ruachoth were precluded from hurting the sons of Noach. And he gave all that he had written to Shem, his eldest son; for he loved him exceedingly above all his sons. YOVHELIYM (JUBILEES) 10:13-14 את CEPHER
Even Avraham was given books and the ability to understand the "tongue of creation" and he transcribed them. So Abraham could ALSO read and write.
And YAHUAH ELOHIYM said: Open his mouth and his ears, that he may hear and speak with his mouth, with the language which has been revealed; for it had ceased from the mouths of all the children of men from the day of the overthrow of Babel. And I opened his mouth, and his ears and his lips, and I began to speak with him in Ivriyt in the tongue of the creation. And he took the cepheriym of his fathers, and these were written in Ivriyt, and he transcribed them, and he began from henceforth to study them, and I made known to him that which he could not understand, and he studied them during the six rainy months. YOVHELIYM (JUBILEES) 12:25-27 את CEPHER
Abraham recounts what he READ in the books of Enoch and Noah.
And eat its meat on that day and on the second day, and let not the sun on the second day go down upon it till it is eaten, and let nothing be left over for the third day; for it is not acceptable for it is not approved and let it no longer be eaten, and all who eat thereof will bring sin upon themselves; for thus I have found it written in the cepheriym of my forefathers, and in the words of Chanok, and in the words of Noach. YOVHELIYM (JUBILEES) 21:10 את CEPHER
These books that began with Enoch and Noah were passed down from Enoch to Noah who wrote more, to Abraham, to Isaac, to Jacob, then to Levi.
And he gave all his cepheriym and the cepheriym of his fathers to Leviy his son that he might guard them and renew them for his children until this day. YOVHELIYM (JUBILEES) 45:16 את CEPHER
ALL of the patriarchs beginning with Enoch could READ AND WRITE! The Isrealites likely could READ AND WRITE! One of their patriarchs, Abraham, was given the ability to understand and read the original language from creation. I wonder WHAT LANGUAGE would that be? Likely a Hebrew one??? AND that means Noah's sons would have known this language cause Enoch lived BEFORE Babel and likely spoke and wrote the original language from creation. The books given to Noah would have been this language. And they were left to his sons who ALSO knew this language prior to Babel. The question is what language did Abraham transcribe these books into??? And was the original language he was given the ability to read passed down to Isaac, Jacob and his sons???

You really need to do some real research. The book of Enoch is a Jewish fable started around 300 BC by a sect outside of Jerusalem and finished in about 100 BC. It wasn't written by the preflood Enoch. The book has been debunked multiple times. It contradicts it's self multiple time by the additions of multiple authors. Consonants. We're talking about the Hebrew Alphabet when they say "Proto-Sinaitic" or the ancestor of Hebrew.
Mainstream academia has long said it's Canaanite, but the Bible places the Semitic Israelites in Egypt in the Middle Kingdom period that these inscriptions correspond to.
The inscriptions cease to appear in Egypt with the sudden disappearance of a large Semitic group around the time of Pharaoh Dudimose (before the Hyksos), then in a few decades, this alphabet begins to appear in Canaan, eventually becoming the dominant script in the region.

I don't agree that the Proto-Sinaitic script was borrowed from Egyptian hieroglyphs to "invent" aforesaid language as that would mean the Egyptians first learned their letters and spread it to the world; but the opposite is true that God taught select men Proto-Sinaitic Hebrew and it was through Hebrew letters that mankind became enlightened. If you look at the first ten generations before the Flood of Noah, they all have their children Hebrew names while themselves not being Hebrew; and when you look at the first man, God gave him a Hebrew name, and Adam gave his wife a Hebrew name: therefore Adam learned Hebrew from God and that is why you don't see much difference in the alphabet of the Hebrews, Babylonians, and Assyrians because Adam learned Proto-Sinaitic Hebrew if you will. That said God did mix up Babylonian and Assyrian enough so that they were distinct from Hebrew.
How could Adam learn Hebrew without being Hebrew? The same way all ancient and modern people can learn a foreign language without being born into said ethnic groups which those languages and dialects belong to. There wouldn't be translators or polyglots if this were not true.

Professor Douglas Petrovich needs to learn about the 22 symbol/letter Egyptian Hieratic script. It was developed a thousand years before Joseph was born. It's the mother alphabet. You can't date rock etchings unless they date themselves by a date or event. A few etchings located by a dated event in a different script doesn't date the etchings as being done in the same time frame. The patina in and around the etchings can imply an age or which etching nearby is older.
David Rohl nails it about Moses having the ability to write the 1st 5 books of the Bible.
    From the transcript;
"11:48 he had the ability because he was a 11:50 prince of egypt he was educated 11:52 he would have been educated in reading 11:54 and writing ancient hieroglyphs well you 11:55 didn't have the ability to write hebrew 11:57 right uh well no he did you see this is 11:59 the point 12:00 with these inscriptions these 12:02 protestantic inscriptions we have an 12:04 alphabet now at the time that i would 12:06 put joseph and moses in other words that 12:09 era is when this comes into being for 12:11 the first time so if joseph prince was 12:15 the person who invented this method of 12:16 writing the semitic language as a script 12:20 moses would have learned that very 12:21 easily and very quickly and that would 12:23 have been the form of writing that he 12:25 would use to write the narrative of the 12:27 exodus journey the laws 12:30 of the of the israelites that would be 12:32 you know handed down"
Moses was an educated Egyptian prince, he would know how to read and write in Hieroglyphs and the 22 letter Egyptian Hieratic script. He used the Hieratic script to write phonetically in the Hebrew language. Once you have a sound sign script, you can write any vocal language phonetically. This alphabet I'm using is Latin script. It's used to write many different languages. Did Joesph write in Hebrew? Show me the verse in the Bible that states he wrote in Hebrew script. You won't find it. I will speculate on the day when the true tablets are revealed so that we can see God's Laws written on them. It will be in Hebrew written in Egyptian Hieratic script. I doubt Paleo-Hebrew existed yet and probably wouldn't for a few hundred years.

How is it a new revelation that that the oldest language and writing system is Hebrew (Proto-Hebrew), when the Bible (and I believe the Book of Jubilees, but don't hold me to it) actually says that there was one language spoken by everyone up until the Tower of Babel, and that Eber and his family kept the original language because Eber refused to participate in the building of the tower? @@fordprefect5304 Hebrew (Proto-Hebrew) has a very unusual (not to say impossible) feature: It's a phonetic alphabet and it's iconographic at the same time. Every letter is an icon with inherent meaning. And the meaning of all letters in a word reflect the meaning of the word.
So you can read/understand large parts by just looking at the words - without knowing the language. I heard that some teachers today use this original alphabet to teach Hebrew very successfully.
But you cannot artificially create such an incredible system after the fact - without designing the language and the alphabet together at the same time.
