you're a godsend. I can only find scattered information on outboard maintenance. There's a lot less content on this than cars. Hope you keep making more outboard + boat maintenance videos!
I always change my gear lube as well for winterizing. Here in the north, if you happen to get water in your gear case it can freeze and crack the case.
Yes, I have gotten feedback on that. Being in the south, the winter weather is much more forgiving that in the northern states, which is why I generally follow the 100 hour maintenance guideline. I will however follow up with a part 2for the northern states.
Hi Jose , Enjoy your videos, I own a 1972 Boston Whaler ( 16’ cohasset red dot commercial hull ) …great boat and I recently re- powered with the f70 Yamaha … also really great engine . I was wondering if you also do an oil & filter change and lower unit gear oil change as part of the winterization ?
Absolutely change engine oil & filter! Send some of the the oil away to a test lab too. Lower unit gear oil change is a must as well. He also missed a very important Zerk fitting on the motor shaft (located on the back of the shaft housing); this is under water and new grease will expel any trapped water in the seals. I also change the little gas filter inside the case under the oil fill. I also remove the black rubber cover over the rear zinc and spray with fresh water, otherwise salt water stays in there.
I generally don't because I live in the South but will follow up with a part 2 for Northern states! Thanks for pointing out the missed zerk, no excuses from my end, just a complete oversight and I'll cover that in the part 2 Winterization video as well!

Glad this video was helpful, I'll try to put out more outboard maintenance videos in the future.
Thank you 🤙🏼

Nice video! No need run antifreeze through?
I don't typically do that, might be helpful if you live in the northern parts though
