Its a bottom-up vs top-down approach. Top-down is what the current nation state is, Big Brother is watching you. This is very true that we have all subtlety becoming socialist under this statist system, govt supports & bails outs individuals & corporations, in return there is obedience (in the form of conditions) and following the status quo is made to be easier.
I'd rather live in a poorer country that doesn't have these profligacy, without any of these monetary "benefits" and "comfort", where there is no state interference and I can operate as close to a self-sovereign as possible. The irony is that this is becoming more popular with the rise of digital nomadism, who would have thought that those in the West would be eagerly leaving their countries in search of "freedom" (that same empty phrase that the West has bombed half the developing world to apparently install). Finally, I love what Ustadh said about Fiqg of govt being very small, it reminds us that the nation state (alongside individualism & nuclear family) is modernity's solution to society and isn't a natural way of living, the Dawla was completely different than the nation state which is essentially a Big brother totalitarian governance system with its identity being entirely a social construct (borders are the greatest social construct we have internalised, the fact that we speak of neighbouring nations like they are fundamentally different shows that this has worked).
