In 2009 I was 16, and my family went to the movies every weekend-- that's probably why we ended up seeing Push, because after a while, we 'd start running out of movies to see at the theatres! Either that, or we ended up renting it... I fell in love with this movie and I remember that my main reason for watching it again and again when we finally ended up purchasing it was the father/daughter relationship, the cool powers, and definitely where it was set. It was so cool seeing this other place that i'd never seen before, and the colors are just so vivid in this movie too... I wish more people could appreciate this movie!
Let's not forget that Jumper was coming out either right before or right after the release of Push with a bigger actor recognition in the cast (Samuel L Jackson/ Christian Haydenson) who had both been in the prequels before Push and whose ads were already drawing in a lot of people ready to see it when it released. Push wasn't even on the radar for most. Which sucks because everyone remembers Jumper, and Push was far superior in every way
Not just that, TAKEN, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, Gran Torino, Slumdog Millionaire, Twilight, Yes Man and Coraline all came out within 1-2 weeks of PUSH.
Push is kinda like a more adult version of Darkest Minds. Which is funny, because they’re both movies with good concepts, that weren’t as good as they could have been, so then they bombed, and we’ll probably never see a sequel for either.
Sending a message out to the universe to get the original cast back and give us a sequel 😭 Logistically it wouldn’t make sense to continue the last story of trying to save Cassies mom, as it’s been years since Dakota and Chris were on screen together-and why would it take that long for them to save her. But I imagine Cassie could come back into Nicks life for another decades long mission she’s been watching.
I remember when this movie came out I personally believe a lot of the problem with the promotion and marketing of this film. But to be honest this is surprisingly good film
I've watched this Movie when I was like 12 on free TV, always thought it was a fever dream, none the less it greatly inspired me when it came to making my own stories in terms of structure, settings and especially characters. Watched it today for the first time beginning to end without breaks since I was 12, and I must say, that it is probably one of the best movies I have seen in a long time.
I loved Push and Jumper these two movies laid the groundwork for the Tomorrow People tv series which probably lead to the Arrow Verse or possibly suffered from it.
Tomorrow People premiered a whole year AFTER Arrow. It was a show trying to capitalize on the popularity of superhero content at the time (by that point the MCU was in full swing, Berlanti had had success with season one of Arrow and was a few weeks away from introducing The Flash in season 2 when Tomorrow People premiered, and WB had released Man of Steel and kickstarted the DCEU).
I think it is a good idea but the execution wasn’t the best. The pacing was a bit off. The screamers also didn’t fit well in my opinion because screaming isn’t a psychic power and the way it all worked didn’t make sense. I did like the movie when I was younger though.
One thing you might consider on what was occuring around the time. 2008 crash, war, turmoil. Times like this people want escape. Push is awesome but not escape.
I remember this movie I watched it and I enjoyed it greatly However I forgot the name of the movie for ages, I really wanted to watch it again and now suddenly I saw it on Netflix again
The story and concept were good. They just never finished it. The parents being uber powerful which is why they died off. Then the package they wanted i think that makes em more powerful. Then the ending.. The left you wanting more why letting you down for its potential
Honestly you have really great point but you also have to remember the year before. Movies like wanted and jumper made this movie hard to remember. They have the same concept people with abilities and those abilities can come in a range. And they all felt very similar. Most action movies from the early 2000s feel this way so it kinda all blends in people memories
I remember as a kid ive watched this multiple times a weak cuz my library of movies was pretty slim at the time. Always had a blast, plot was interesting, effects was good and the world was very believable. Would live some development of this world through some books at least.
Push was awesome. Me and my brother loved it. And still do. Ive seen it like 20 times. I dare say Push is better than 95% of movies that come out today.
I like this movie ok (especially when Jumper is also playing) but I think a few other factors come into play. 1) The premise sounds a bit close to the X-Men movies and why would someone waste time with a knock off when they can just watch the 4 existing x-men movies at home 2) With this being Summit Entertainment and they had the first Twilight being a bigger draw with audiences 3) I think another issue was the fact that it introduced too many of these groups all in one movie
These powers are very similar to the novel Mistborn if anyone is interested. For example people who can manipulate emotions are called Rioters and they use the expression pushing on emotions. Smokers have the same abilities as Shadow and they are equally pretty useless if there arent any Seekers, the equivalent of sniffers.
I agree with most of what you said. I def agree it prob would’ve done way better if it was released now. There’s a movie called Code 8 that came out recently, it has similar concepts of powers and ended being pretty good imo.
Ok that's cool and all but don't talk like that about Coraline, it's actually very good and is made by the director of The Nightmare Before Christmas (who is NOT tim burton).
LOVED Push, don't know why it got so much hate. I always considered it to be "the martial arts film" among super-hero movies, which are typically more character focused. I thought it was so interesting, how they balanced the powers against one another. There's a great anime series that worked a very similar concept, ... Can't remember the name... I also liked Jumper, which was similarly built, though just focused on one guy. I thought they should be in the same universe.
I watched this multiple times! It was so good. I had a huge crush of Chris Evans because of this and the Not Another Teen Movie. Before he became a mainstream actor.
Oh man the fact that it got overshadowed by other shows is just sad. There was this animated series called skyland which featured futuristic earth that shattered into floating chunks of livable lands and psychics, and avatar the last air bender just killed off this show. The way they had to put it out of its misery was just bad with its last episode.
even low views this video was a masterpiece, I think in the future somebodies gonna understand buddy, because nothing has the meaning of old times anymore, and this movie has an action-adventure component of the old days.
😂Fanning's coraline outselling her other movie 🤣 I swear the cast in it was no joke, even for it's time. 🔥 It's not that it felt amateur but rather that's what they were going for in terms of actual shooting technique. Yeah some tropes were mid but imo even then they still worked. There was something in its filming that kinda resembled Tony scott's chaotic style work and you can see it with pelham 123 which came out at a similar time. Something funny is I somehow remember this coming out earlier than 2009. I think trailers started popping up in one of those saw movies from back in the day i bought on dvd, that or the watchmen dvd that i still own. whatever the case I myself loved it.✨
I agree. The concept was incredible, the execution was not. The cinematography, visual effects and concept ideas were great, but the story and pacing felt incoherent, disjointed and choppy. It starts out pretty good but ultimately falls flat. The film had potential, it could have been better. There's not much character development. I just felt disappointed... I wanted to like this movie more but, just felt it was a let down
You have to remember that he’s being sought after by Division. He would avoid trying to use his powers if it meant he was going to get killed like his dad. I always saw it in the light. Throughout the movie, he’s learning in real time how his abilities work.
I remember when everyone wanted to go see coralline and madea goes to jail 2009 I was 5 and I remember my mom later i came home when coralline came on dvd it had a 3d set when yo can watch it in 3d with 3d glasses at home 2009 had good memories

I believe its failure happened because of 4 reasons. What a shame... It was an enjoying movie if you ask me. - Everyone knows that before 2008 - 2009 most of superhero movies were like meh until MCU Arrived. - The movie did not have recognized enough stars in order to hook people. Lets face it Chirs Evans was not that famous until His role s Cap. I can recall his name from some good movies like Cellular (2004) and The F4 but not enough (Specially the last one). Can say shes part of my gay awakening but with her and Nick in the movie it just always made me feel like some untones in there. But man I need video essays of this movie. Just saw it on yesterday and got to watch it again. Through my favorites part would be when dakota fanning's character walks into the back room with the tiger and comes face to face with her death only to be safed by her mom. (In a way. The wiper could have been told by nick but i like to think her mom saw it coming and sent the wiper to safe her.)
The fact that you asked for a sequel for one of the worst superhero movies out there and literally called Coraline "some stupid kid's movie" make you wrong from the getgo
Reuploaded to correct a small error in editing!
Iceberg part 2 when? *dabs*
This is so underrated
Glad some are still caring about this underrated gem like I do I still dunno why it never got the attention of people at all🙃❤
Ngl for me it was because I hadn't seen or heard of a trailer, but I was glad my mum had a hard drive full of hidden gem movies
One of my favorites actually.
Piracy
That extremely powerful Shadow who hid an entire building highlights a Shadow's usefulness 😁
Until reading your comment It didn't cross my mind the shadow was the old Asian woman guarding the locker.
I think that was the setup to the trap
Useful for the protagonists, didn't they find the place because Dakota wouldn't draw the building, leaving an empty space?
I feel like this video doesn't just explaining the abandoned sequel for push... but it's for all the movie sequel ideas that been abandoned...
One of the best movies in my book. Remember watching this in theaters during my high school days
i love this movie

That makes sense. For years I got both movies mixed up. They were both good and would've done great with sequels.
Not just that, TAKEN, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, Gran Torino, Slumdog Millionaire, Twilight, Yes Man and Coraline all came out within 1-2 weeks of PUSH.
@@RlKrav oof, they never even had a chance then.

Nah this movie was amazing
I still want a sequel
one of my favorite movies. I like the inside of the buildings in Hong Kong
push and chronicle are the best super power films i've ever seen
Hidden Gem; Couldn't put it any better.
I love this movie so much, I'm glad people appreciate it!
Great film. Favorite parts: bleeders in the fish market, Kira's escape from the agents, Cassie begging Carver to not hurt herself (broke my heart).
Kira mind controlling a mini army was pretty sick too
I've watched this Movie when I was like 12 on free TV, always thought it was a fever dream, none the less it greatly inspired me when it came to making my own stories in terms of structure, settings and especially characters.
Watched it today for the first time beginning to end without breaks since I was 12, and I must say, that it is probably one of the best movies I have seen in a long time.
I loved this movie, the ameturistic feel to it gave it a sense that it could be a real thing
this was a fever dream of a movie. I remember watching this like 5-10 years ago and it seemed like no one I knew saw it lmao
Push is great! It's the only one of those 2009 movies I saw
Actually I saw Inglorious Basterds it was ok. I'm a huge X-Men fan and I love any setting that is reminiscent.
Thank you for making this video I grew up with this movie as a kid really sad to see how it didn't do as good unfortunately
I loved Push and Jumper these two movies laid the groundwork for the Tomorrow People tv series which probably lead to the Arrow Verse or possibly suffered from it.

They dont make 2000s movies like this anymore
Straight up
yea its sad that this movie never got a sequel but great video also its nice to know that there are prequel comics to it
Well explained. I really love the movie and was hoping for part 2. Unfortunately, it's impossible to happen
Got this on recommendation
Nice :)
original script superpower movies are gems. this movie and chronicle are top tier
One thing you might consider on what was occuring around the time. 2008 crash, war, turmoil. Times like this people want escape. Push is awesome but not escape.

I watched it and I enjoyed it greatly

I never saw a single commercial for this movie and it wasn't until 2012 that I watched it the first time and loved it

Great video and music Oh my goodness dude yeah it's sad that the movie faild to attack the audience they wanted
3 great movies like so are “push , chronicle , and another which was a teleporting one
Jumper
We need series for this to explore all the potential
LOVED Push, don't know why it got so much hate. I always considered it to be "the martial arts film" among super-hero movies, which are typically more character focused. I thought it was so interesting, how they balanced the powers against one another.

the fist tank scene where everything just pops like an tomatoe

If Shadows exist I wonder if there are negative versions of other powers. People who can block pushers or jam movers. Nega-psychics.
Great concept, Great Cast, Good Story, Cool twist ending. Shame if fell into a black hole by the mainstream audience.
This movie literally made me decide to go to film school, beautiful film that never gets its due
Great movie.
I doubt a lot of people care about couple Retreat in same fashion as Avatar, Inglorious Basterds or Zombieland
😂Fanning's coraline outselling her other movie 🤣 I swear the cast in it was no joke, even for it's time. 🔥 It's not that it felt amateur but rather that's what they were going for in terms of actual shooting technique. I loved this movie! Just wish they had a more coherent execution.
Push, Jumper and I Am Number 4 are great underrated movies.
I loved this movie. Wondering why it wasn't continued....
Why diddn't they created push 2 already?
Actually if they advertised the trailer focusing on the MC and the kid, it would've made people more interested.
Nick's telekinetic abilities could have made him invincible, hard to catch, yet, he was physically assaulted and left for dead a couple of times...
I wanted to like this movie more but, just felt it was a let down
You have to remember that he’s being sought after by Division. He would avoid trying to use his powers if it meant he was going to get killed like his dad. I always saw it in the light. Throughout the movie, he’s learning in real time how his abilities work.
The kiss scene in this movie is one of my all time favorites lmaooo
I remember that with Dokota fanning right?
Yes thats the one!
@@theorist oh yeah I remember and also what happened to kick Ass 3
I remember when everyone wanted to go see coralline and madea goes to jail 2009 I was 5 and I remember my mom later i came home when coralline came on dvd it had a 3d set when yo can watch it in 3d with 3d glasses at home 2009 had good memories
I’m still waiting for the jumper sequel
probably would do better if it was released on netflix
Correct me if I am wrong but I don’t believe Chris Evans at the time had the pull that he does now all I could remember him for was not another teenage movie which was a spoof comedy he did not have the box office draw like he does now. Amazing anaslysis dude
Sometimes there are exceptions but you know....
- Maybe you are right about releasing this movie in a wrong era. If this would have been premiered around 2016 until present could work better with Evans being a star already.
- it would have gone better as Tv Series instead like HEROES.
I forgot about the comics from DC maybe that's why sequel never came cause WB told summit hell nooo 😂
So much wasted potential
It was so good!
In the Super Hero heip could have been better
This movie was really good
The magic system is very complicated. There is far to many magic disciplines. They would have been far better off combining a few together. and getting rid of a few of them completely.
leave is so there is 3 disciplines.
the magic system would basically need to be a book first.
the end of the 2000s was definitely a great time for Cinema. with in a few years. superheroes had taken over.
Pushers made me so scared
Bruh ,Coraline ain't a stupid kids movie, Its an actual horror masterpiece ,watch it before you say something like that....
😂😂😂 what are you 7
I think it would do better as a TV series
Wrong each of these scenes had convenice and consequence at the same time
With a remark to the parallel or paralleled with humour
Which is so not amateur
The I know a guy scene came with more chemistry with party not one person and the others left out
The power and the weakness explained and he's linked to another
The convience is also explainable as there's watchers who waited planned and plotted for moments to move and cassie forces Chris Evans character to move he's been on the run a long time to survive you lean on people where people have powers you'd observe u learn u adapt in the systems these are
The fbi guy shows up and gets rinsed line by line
Usually a witness protection scene in gangsta films it's a stare down
THIS one is tense and comedic as well as informative to the plot
Which is great writing
Confronting the enemy recklessly like this
Isn't usually how it goes they are never usually solo
They are never usually the weakest of their type
And the bad guy stays composed and unthreatened even tells his dude sit back down
What your plan
And it's actually in this confrontation he's learning more about his power from a guy whose his type of power which seems to be one of the rarer ones and developes in power alongside his characters growth from running to willing to confront and make a difference
It's like alcoholism first step to being powerful over it u gotta admit u got a problem and take the first step that you can make
THIS is Thee SHONEN anime aspect of writing and the point of a power system as the character grows so does the power but only as much as the depth of the character
Naruto over comes hate takes a drastic transformation into a form of light
Bleach ichigo goes psycho path to demon to equilibrium
HXH gon is said to have potential has a ton of heart and nothing seems to break him but he holds rage and anger into a void and let's it all out to transform into an adult showing he's unlocked all of his potential once he's understood his full range of emotions depth and reasoning
You can't fault these scenes in what they do and represent just cause other films have similar formula
And the film goes into a heist story from I know a guy slowly back into the action film it was designed to be and everything has depth and a gotchya moment really well and all these powers and nature's of the characters are something else and so diverse and good gritty and captures an essence of the streets they walk in from underworld to top brass it's brilliant
Can someone explain how did Nick know what to write in the letters? he was not a future teller
I did always like this movie
I first heard of this in 2011
Okay that makes more sense
INTeresting
i actually really liked this movie
Please full movie
What happened to Will Smith’s Hancock 2 & Hayden Christensens Jumper 2?

Coraline is not a kids movie.
I enjoyed the movie too do you think you can make a video about jumper.?
i know its been months since you wrote this. but i just might :)
Did you just call Coraline a stupid kids movie?
I liked it more when it was a game psi ops
The fact that you asked for a sequel for one of the worst superhero movies out there and literally called Coraline "some stupid kid's movie" make you wrong from the getgo
That's your opinion. Bye 👋🏾...
"Stupid kids movie" when Coraline is better than Push lol
It's not a superhero film there is no hero's
People let this movie flop now we get shitty mcu movies
