I tried your recipe for the Rum Cake for the Christmas Holidays and it was a major hit. My family loved the cake. It was so moist and delicious. In the past, I made a Spiced Rum Cake using a cake box and vanilla pudding and it was good too but I love this recipe better because it’s from scratch. I prefer baking cakes from scratch. This reminds me of when I was a kid. We would have a pound cake and my Dad would make a 'hard sauce'. He cooked it on the stove using rum and other things I no longer recall. We would have slices of pound cake and the sauce would be poured onto it so the cake would absorb it. It was a wonderful Fall/Winter dessert. Thank you for taking me back to my childhood John. Beso!
Just tried this rum cake….OMG…the best ever. My oven at 325 degrees took 60 minutes. I used Captain Morgan’s spiced rum cuz that is what was on hand. I doubled the topping and brushed on 1/3rd of the rendered glaze prior to adding cream to the remaining 2/3rds then….realized I was out of heavy cream sooooo I used cream cheese. It worked. Very tasty. Just a dollup on a slice will do. It would be excellent with fresh berries . The cake had amazing texture.
I did this exact recipe but I did it with Hennessy instead. I made it similar to the Neiman Marcus cake with the brandy soaked raisins at the bottom of my pan so it made like a caramel brandy raisin topping oh my God it was amazing

I wish we could add pics to our comments. I made this 99% to a T of the directions. Except I substituted whipping cream with half&half. Still works great! Such a wonderful recipe. I used a different bundt pan. It's a Nordicware that looks like a circular accordian. Lots of hard, crusty corners that work great with the butter rum sauce!
So I made this cake. But my bundt pan was too small, so I made two 6 inch pans more. This cake was so good I ate one 6 inch by myself secretly from the family.

I noticed you have a lot of dry stuff at the bottom of your bowl after mixing. This used to happen to me until someone told me about an adjustable screw on the mixer that lowers the top to get the mixing tool closer to the bottom of the bowl. Since then I don't have any more problems with leftover dry ingredients on the bottom, it's been life-changing!
This cake is sooooooo delicious!!! ❤️❤️❤️I’d made a rum cake recipe using a box cake and I knew there had to be a better homemade version. So glad I found this video. I added an additional tbsp of butter just before the rum sauce was fully cooled. It added a little something. Thanks!!!

I just bought the tilt kit KitchenAid artisan mixer like you’re using and because it did not come with the spatula scraping beater I bought it and it’s fantastic. I think you would enjoy it you don’t have to scrape the bowl very much if ever.
My boyfriend loves rum cake, so I surprised him by making this. I’ve never had rum cake so I was quite nervous making it for the first time nor did I know how it was supposed to taste. I usually use,apple sauce for my rum cake,and a 50 year old Flor de Caña from Nicaragua,I also put raisins,I also make a Sopa Borracha,which is a staple in Nicaragua for Christmas ,for the adults,that’s where the tres Leches was born for the children,since the Sopa Borracha,has lots of alcohol 😊🎄❤️🙏🏻🇳🇮

Southern Comfort GLAZE: 1/8 lb. butter 1/8 c. water 1/2 c. granulated sugar 1/4 c. Southern Comfort Combine cake ingredients in large bowl. Beat at medium speed for 2 minutes. Pour into greased and floured 10 inch tube or 12 cup bundt pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour. Set on rack to cool for 10 minutes. Invert on serving plate. Prick top immediately; drizzle and brush half of glaze. After cake has cooled, reheat glaze and brush it evenly over cake. To make glaze: Melt butter in pan. Stir in water and sugar. Boil 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in Southern Comfort.

I've made a few rum cakes, and my tip is that this cake would be best made a day or two ahead. Let that rummy flavour relax and really come out.
If you do this, can the sauce be put out at room temperature to store to dollop on top for serving ? Or what happens to the sauce 😊

I make a Southern Comfort Cake with pecans that is to die for. So yummy and tender.

1 Duncan Hines yellow cake mix
1 pkg. instant vanilla pudding
4 eggs
1/2 c. cold water
1/2 c. oil
1 c. chopped pecans or walnuts
1/2 c. Southern Comfort
GLAZE:
1/8 lb. butter
1/8 c. water
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/4 c. Southern Comfort
Combine cake ingredients in large bowl. Beat at medium speed for 2 minutes. Pour into greased and floured 10 inch tube or 12 cup bundt pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour. Set on rack to cool for 10 minutes. Invert on serving plate. Prick top immediately; drizzle and brush half of glaze. After cake has cooled, reheat glaze and brush it evenly over cake.
To make glaze: Melt butter in pan. Stir in water and sugar. Boil 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in Southern Comfort.
