I love your explanations etc. I have found my courage to just put the paint on the canvas and there it is, the talent I sometimes think I don't have. Kevin you have given me a chance to do things one step at a time. And btw I like your soothing voice. PS if people want to use oil but don't want the smell etc. use the water washable oils..but make sure you do not MIX regular oils with these as the paint will glob up
Beautiful painting, here!!! Wish I had space enough to hang all the paintings I'm wanting to do because of knowing your techniques you show us here on UA-cam!!! Please keep 'em coming to us. Thank You!!!
Visited AZ this past Sept and loved the desert mixed with the mountains. So much so that I want to move to Sedona. Super excited about trying this. Thank you so much for helping us explore a different scenery.
Hi Kevin. Love your work. You are very "soothing" to paint with and learn from. I actually painted one of your desert scenes as a gift. I just spent a month in Yuma with them. Is there anywhere I can share my painting with you?
If it isn't too much trouble, would you mind uploading the uncut versions of these videos, too? I sometimes have a hard time following along since I have trouble with some of the parts that are cut out. Great painting, though!
It's very hot as I stand and take in the view, nature at it's best. Very nice composition Kevin, and great palette. Your commentary is wonderful, allows for even a beginner to understand the techniques, and why. Kevin your brilliant when it comes to color mixing! The way you harmonize the values to give shape and contour to bring the subject to life is amazing. I love all the details within the painting, very natural. Very exciting place to visit, although it's very hot, I want to explore. Thank you for sharing, and creating such a beautiful place, nature at it's best. God bless.
Love me some desert. Say KEvin, have you tried painting rain? I'd love to see some rainy landscapes too! Any kind of rainy landscape, so far I love everything that you do.
magnifique!!!vous faite partie de ces hommes qui nous emerveillent par leur talent ,merci de nous faire esperer qu un jour nous pourrions vous imite !!!une admiratrice de France
Wow, beautiful! Great display =D Your lighting on everythingg - i love the your distant hills/mountains they're so interesting (thousand of bushes!) along with the shine on the cacti and stuff :3
what colors are you hi lighting the cactus with? Also please do not skip over as I do not know what colors and techniques you are using for each step, What brushes are you using besides a 2", a filbert and knife??? You are a gift to all of us painters and thank you for sharing your talent with us.
Kevin, I really enjoy your videos. You're an expert at what you do but I do wonder sometimes why you don't add more life to your paintings. So far the only movement you have (that I can remember) is moving water. I would love to see birds in the background for scale and to show movement. Animals/people in the foreground. For example, in this painting you could have added some boulders in the front with a small lizard bathing in the sun... or something along those lines. Or maybe you can hide small "easter eggs" that people have to find :D (like omg I never saw that squirrel before!) Idk just thinking out loud :/
I realize that you skip a lot so you can show us a completed lesson, but I imagine this one too a considerable amount of time. It reminds me not to rush through a painting, take my time and watch the details. This painting is magnificent! I really enjoyed watching.
KEVIN OBRIGADO POR COMPARTILHAR SEUS CONHECIMENTOS ,VOCÊ É REALMENTE MUITO TALENTOSO , SUA ARTE ME INSPIRA ! NO BRASIL PRECISAMOS DE PESSOAS COMO VOCÊ PARA ENSINAR PINTURA !
FromSouth Africa alsoa warm thanks, loved your intro today:-) I would love to see how you do a Baobab tree, a huge one in detail. Thanks for being my 'company' every day when I come from work, you are inspiring.
Hatem Al Khdour Sorry this is so long getting to you - I just now saw your question and noticed how it was years ago .... He mostly does OIL paintings - he mentions at the beginning how people ask if oil paintings can be done in acrylics, and, he answers that they "can.". So, I guess this picture is done in OILS. Am almost positive that he lets each of the layers - after he has blended them together - dry before adding the next layer ... specially before he puts the green on the brown background or the black and white highlights on the green cactuses!!! Am unsure, but, I think that's what he has done with having seen several of his videos here on UA-cam....hint: he has said before how he uses baby oil to clean his brushes with instead of linseed or any other cleaner. He also cautions that the baby oil causes the brushes to be "wet" so you have to dry them before using them. He also states that he "rarely" ever cleans his brushes during a painting - he just wipes the brushes well on paper towels - and, he likes using the lint-free shop towels for that!!! 😆
The last time I picked up a paint brush was October 17, 2021. That was the last day my sister and I painted together. We were sisters, best friends and painting buddies. We had to stop painting because her stomach started hurting really bad. I took her to the hospital, she had emergency surgery and we found out that she had stage 4 colon cancer. After her surgery her health deteriorated very quickly. I took care of her at home and she passed away December 17,2021. I have tried several times to paint but would end up in massive anxiety attacks and giving up. Then January 24 I tested positive for covid. The first 4 days weren’t that bad. But after 8 days of 99 to 101 fever with 800 mil Ibuprofen, it got real. I am still having constant migraines that increase as I become tired. I am up to functioning about 3 to 4 hours a day. After that I need to go back to bed. I suffer migraines, shortness of breath, exhaustion, shooting pains in my neck, shoulders, arms, hands and chest. I have brain fog, memory loss and varying degrees of concentration abilities. I had almost lost hope of ever getting well. But Wednesday I had an urge to go into my studio. I set up a canvas and prepared my pallet with paints. Then the anxiety attack hit. Fear, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, and chest pains started up. When the nausea began rising I almost gave up. Then I remembered something Kevin Hill said on one of his painting videos. He said “Let your canvas be your pallet.” So I put on one of his very Thomas Kincade style (in my opinion) desert scene videos slapped some paint on my canvas and painted. It took me 9 hours over 3 sessions but here it is. My first painting in forever. I had been heart-broken and terrified that it would never come back. But it did. Thank you so much Kevin Hill for helping me begin to get past my grief and loss. Maybe, just maybe, someday I can also get over this covid. At least now I am hopeful again.
Could you add this to your digital download lessons in a step by step for us non talented folks please? I will be happy to pay for it. Thank you. Terri

Beautiful painting, and I understand keeping some of you're techniques for your paying fans/pupils. However, I feel as an instructional video, you've somewhat mislead us watching in that you've edited out everything that brings this work to life.

Do you mix anything with your paints ? Is this acrylic or oil ?
