What a brilliant reaction. “Someone so close to the band”… Ridiculously accurate.

The only reaction channel that’ goes into the depth of the meaning of the songs. A lot of reactions videos only sees the vocal range or the tone of songs. But you two have in all videos sincerely expressed your reaction by diving deep into the lyrics truly reflects your genuine love for music. Keep going... Enjoy your duo time together..You both are a perfect match.

You were pretty much spot on.

Enoma, you are spot on with your analysis of the lyrics. The song is definitely about a very dear loved one of the band. His name is "Syd Barrett". He was an original member who, rumors say that he took too much acid(LSD) and became schizophrenic. David Gilmore the lead guitarist took over in Syd's absence.

Namaste, well i didn't expect to cry during this reaction but Savio talking about his father hit me hard, i have recently lost my mum to cancer and i can fully relate as she too was in a similar state near the end. i have heard this song at least a million times (probably no exaggeration lol) and now i'll never be able to hear it the same way. great reaction as always you guys are a breath of fresh air.

So fun to see genuine reactions to this song.. everyone always checks their headphones at the start of the song!
This is another album that really needs to be listened to from beginning to end -- not really your format, I know, but something you all might consider doing on your own.
    Keep it up!

Sometimes PF fans are to quick to criticize analysis that differs from the 'canon' of the band. I find this sad, because above all else, PF's music elicits emotions in people and those emotions are as unique to each person as their fingerprints.
As with all art, the appreciation is all on the client side. Any emotion or feeling you have is valid. Knowing the band's intent can help you understand more emotions, but will they exist simultaneously with your own.
    Keep posting!

  • @rashford1156

As already mentioned, this song(and the whole album too)) is a tribute to Syd Barrett who co-founded the band....The band were incredibly close.... especially, Syd Barrett, Dave Gilmour and Roger Waters who had known each other from their primary school days in the 1950s,long before they became famous as P/F........Once again many of the lyrics are in reference to their dear friend Syd Barratt who they all had a deep affection for and a sadness about his mental health problems, although he was never ever diagnosed as being clinically insane......Here is an excerpt taken from a magazine article..." Although Waters and Gilmour tried to help Barrett with his solo career, it soon became evident that Syd was in no shape to continue as a musician. In 1974 Barrett retired from music for good and returned to two of his other passions, painting and gardening. He would live a reclusive life until his death in 2006. Around the same time Barrett retired from music, Pink Floyd was working on material for Wish You Were Here. The album would become the band’s homage to their friend, especially the song “Shine on You Crazy Diamond.”In 1973 Waters proved that he was a genius in his own right as the creative visionary behind Dark Side of the Moon. But there is no doubt that there’s a little Syd in Dark Side, as one of it’s central themes is madness. Barrett’s spiral into madness affected the whole band as they were all dear friends, but it seemed to really rattle Waters and would color much of the subsequent work he would do with Pink Floyd including his masterpiece, The Wall. In a 2002 interview, Waters said that loss figures heavily into his music. You can feel it on The Wall, but where that loss is most felt, the loss of Syd, is on Wish You Were Here. After Dark Side, Waters and Pink Floyd would become disillusioned with the whole music business, much the same way Syd had, and may have begun to go a little mad themselves. Waters describes in an interview an instance while working on Wish You Were Here when he had an episode where he really thought that he was losing touch with reality (see below). Perhaps this disconnect with reality and disillusionment with the music industry was why Waters decided to follow up Dark Side-one of the most anticipated follow-ups in the history of music-with a tribute to Barrett.Roger now understood what Syd had gone through." Great review and keep them coming.
