    Btw - Sand will go through a bare K&N filter. If you are riding sand or a lot of dry dusty dirt, you must run an oiled foam outer filter over the K&N.

    • @LiveFreeOrRIP
      @LiveFreeOrRIP 11 місяців тому +7

      K&N lets in DUST its a race filter for street NOT dust. I dont feel safe even with an outerwears... Its a great filter for a street machine though.

    • @darrynruzicka2883
      @darrynruzicka2883 11 місяців тому +3

      That's right, and if you are talking about those thin like nylon dry outerwears, i don't trust those either but with the proper oiled foam outerwear/pre-filter it is the way to go, it is what most of the top guys run desert track and dunes. You can run a pure foam filter and it does well but the K&N underneath is extra protection and doesn't affect flow.

    The LTR 450 is my favorite 450 quad. I have one in storage still, 2006 with white plastics and black painted frame. 516 big bore stroker engine with hinson clutch kit. I will keep mine forever. That is a nice quad you got.

    Sweet ride. We Got a ltr450. 110 race fuel with an octane boost. 12:1 compression. Wisco flat top piston. Dyno jet kit for the injection system. Full Yoshimura. Alba racing rims. Pro taper bars. Pro taper nerf bars. They are scary fast. Had this one pushing 90 and she loves it

      I'm around 1 1/2 hour south east of ya. Small world eh? I've heard that they were about as reliable as the 440 Cannondale quads that I used to assemble before they filed for Bankruptcy. The biggest weak spots on those were the cranks and the super thin "light weight" Cast pistons that were known for cracking. Those engines were so ridiculously advanced for the time. They "technically" had 3 oil pumps, automotive style crank trigger, automotive style injectors, automotive style Coil on plug, and automotive style throttle body with TPMS. If ya have the bottom end bullet proofed by a reputable builder they were absolutely ridicules. They would Freight Train any other quad at Cannondales test track that they had just behind the factory that I worked at.

    One of the best handling 450’s out of the box, sweet find! I raced 450cc ATV MX in the past and ridden all of the 450’s and my personal favorites are the Honda, Can Am XMX, and then the Kawi with the right mods 👌. Those are just my personal favorites and the LTR was a good platform but could have been a bit more reliable. A few friends of mine have LTR’s and that kind of turned me off from wanting one myself because they were great when running but it always seemed like something stupid was wrong or they where down for whatever reason more often then rideable. That was in the late 2000’s and I am sure they have addressed the issues with aftermarket/better parts so they hold up better now. They where always a fun machine to rip!

      Better verify it has an ethanol /gasoline ratio sensor to tell computer to recognize need for increased injection dwell time (run richer ) or you're seizing that motor up in first 10 minutes after you fire it up. Alcohol at 13 or 14:1 stochiometric ratios will run in most spark ignition (gasoline) engines ,but it runs really lean and too hot. 😂

    I was confused when u said u were scared u blew it up. I was like “wait. U mean u weren’t trying to kill it the entire time”? Lol. I just figured if I ran a high rev 4t 3 seconds in every gear n the rev limiter, that I’d fully expect it to blow up. I just figured the guy told u it had a scored cylinder and it needed a rebuild. Definitely took some of its life away from it but it handled it better than I expected.

    I've got a 08 and it's my baby!
    Personal opinion here but it seems like your hitting redline really rally fast id air down your back tires to get more traction and maybe look into regearing the bike, when I got mine I was always looking for that 6th gear then I changed the gearing and didn't have that issue anymore! Enjoy the bike man I'll never sell mine!

      I am still new to this Atv stuff I just pick up a ltr and I totally get what your saying about finding 6th gear. What exactly is needed to regear it? Different sprocket?

    Find yourself a Cannondale 440 that has had the bottom end Bullet Proofed and compare them. Would be very very interesting to find out how a 10 year old factory built race quad holds up to the newer ones performance wise.

    Just finished watching that's got to be the fastest quad you've had. Long time viewer and seen many you've owned. That thing rips. Do ypu think you could make.a track around your property and do time trails of all the bikes you work on and own. Would be cool to keep a record of the quickest bike. Hi from New Zealand keep up the good work

    Need a cover over that air filter, like some one said you can run a foam over the k&n, and sounds like you need to adjust your valves, should fire with out giving it gas. Nice ltr I got a couple👍

    I have a question, first off enjoy your videos.
    But I recently purchased a 2004 Polaris predator 500 50th anniversary. Stock bike nothing wrong with it except carburetor need to be cleaned. Came with a donor 2004 Polaris predator 500 parts bike. any ideas on how to make more power and convert one of the motors over to accept race gas

    I've owned 7 of these best 450 hands down, I've had a flat track version 80 hp beast took it to dirt country drag races day after I got it won 1st place, I didn't know it had a blown head gasket still took the W.

    So it's piped and filtered with a high comp piston? Put it this way - if the Yoshi CRBM mapping is good enough, it's not making that much power. Those are designed for basic bolt on mods - any real power needs a PC5 at minimum for tuning, cherry bomb won't cut it. Let's pump the brakes a little, lol.

    You might want to check into how much the performance piston of 13.5:1 is different from the stock mechanical (static) setup was. I am sure it had 12.5 : 1 already because the cam timing combined with an oversquare bore x stroke / big valve design these motors have you end up with a low dynamic compression ratio at low engine r.p.m.s due to low port velocity and long valve overlaps and your cranking speed psi in your cylinder is way better way to guage need for high octane (i.e. expensive) fuels from detonation risks. You probably have a much lower combined compression ratio than you think and race gas may not be necessary. Do a compression check and i bet if you are less than 200 psi you can run premium pump gas or VP fuels caviar equivalent which will still be a far better fuel than pump crap and less than the fancy 110 swill its getting now. Advanced timing technology in these ECU's helps with pinging or spark knock , but be careful too. Sometimes you cant hear the detonation, especially race motors, and if you think its knocking under hard acceleration keep eyes on the plug. Go one number colder asap if you are pushing your luck or think you are. Octanes ONLY role in making horsepower is keeping pre-ignition out of a cylinder. It doesnt burn any hotter or contain more B.T.U.s of energy until you get into alternative/ "oxygen bearing molecule " type fuels that allow more fuel per parts air to be burned that fuel alone can boost torque or horsepower. 8:1 stochiometric ratio in a given displacement engine is going to be more powerful than a 12.5:1 fuel . Just physics. Alcohol ratio vs. Gasoline. Its a very interesting way a guy like you can broaden an understanding of combustion technology and turning for best performance. Very cool stuff. If you truly understand "Flame front travel" thru the cylinder head and out the exhaust port is the sole reason for all the cam timing, spark timing and cfm flow rate changes done. Imagine the burning of the fuel in your motor as a oxy/acetylene torch tip burning and you are the carb or fuel injecter because you have to find that sweet gss to oxygen ratio every time you light it. Nice , hot 3 color flame just hissing like its pissed off and making enough heat to melt hardened steel. That kind of burning in your cylinder heads is exactly what every gearhead wants because that is the best a given engine (need to know what original factory torque/brake horsepower stats are) and you will be able to calculate gains, losses, or just overall is the stupid thing running right. At high r.p.m.s there is less time for the combustion process (flame travel) to occur , so it becomes necessary to start the fire earlier, i.e. spark advances, to see the flame blowing across the combustion chamber, around exhuast valve and through whatever x amount of exhaust system you have. Or out headers if you want to be cool. Make noise. That "torch tip" type flame at high speed is basically a constant phenomenon that is only more so the faster the cylinders are firing off until, if you can view it, it looks seamless and constant. Thats when a motor is running beautifully.
