I bought this exact table and found it to be as simple as the other IKEA products I've bought over the years to put together. I find it to be a solid table - and REALLY heavy once the top is on. I'm perfectly happy with it, plus I used an electric screwdriver to put it together so even as a small woman it was a doddle.
@@NoOtherxD , I have been using it for more than 4 years and it is stil doing fine. Easy to move the table to other locations. Love it. For info, did not assemble the table myself.
The thing with the Norden tables is to get the birch one instead of the white you got. The white is particle board and fiberboard. The birch one is real solid birch. I think Ikea should make the white one cheaper priced instead of both the same.
@@sana479 They’re both over 100lbs each and comes in two boxes to divide the weight. On the ikea site, oddly it shows the boxes for the white one are heavier by 3 pounds. That could be from extra packaging to protect the white table.
Once he claims it's difficult to assemble, then he talk about his more difficult to assemble stuff and how it's better, then he can't even follow the instructions... Also, if you don't like that material, why didn't you buy the birch wood version and paint it? Ikeas birch wood stuff is pretty durable in my experience.
You should have taken 5 minutes to look at the materials on for the two tables. They are clearly listed in the details for the items. If I remember correctly, they may even be on the tag. Norden White: Particleboard, Melamine foil, Plastic edging, Acrylic paint Birch plywood, Solid birch, Tinted clear acrylic lacquer - The only thing
The thing about most idea products is that you pay for multi functionality that you can’t get anywhere else. You’ll be hard pressed to find something similar elsewhere without it being custom made.
I'm a bit puzzled with your review. I'm sure you can buy good quality wood for a low price. Did you calculate your hourly rate in building something DIY + deprecation of having tools or the price for renting them? Even if your hourly rate is extremely low it would be probably cheaper to buy the Ikea furniture. And why did you show the small Ikea screwdriver when the videos show that you are using your own tool? Also you mention that you have some experience with building furniture, so I'm wondering why didn't you use gloves? Also using an electric screwdriver would save 80-90% of the work. Now I'm not suggesting that everyone should buy Ikea stuff, as they use low quality wood in many of their products so you can only put them together once, although, some of their products can be taken apart and put together many times (i.e. the stockholm bed). I'm simply mentioning that your review is quite one-sided and mentions very little information about how does it feel to use the desk and how easy it is to use etc. For these I've disliked the content of the video.
Hey, so I'll just copy/paste the main point, then I'll get into the other points: The main point is that it's way too expensive for the materials that you will get. In the end you pay mainly for the material. Labor is DIY and yes the idea and concept could be considered a bit but imho it's negligible. If you're fine with overpaying lots then there's no problem with this thing. Moving on - just for the fun of debating: I showed the little screw driver because it's cute, but using it for all the work would definitely destroy your hands hahaha, that's why I had to use mine. Electric screwdriver argument is definitely valid! lol.. (Gloves? I won't even get into this .. just personal preference) What does calculated hourly work matter in the end? When there's the same term on each side of an equation you can just cross it out. Maybe DIY would involve a bit more time but mostly it would be comparable I think. Also using tools will get crossed out since I had to use my tools in both cases. Cutting wood to length will be done in the hardware store free of charge. But indeed developing a concept from scratch could take time..even when simplified. Lastly, yes you can consider it one sided, here are some counterpoints though... I mentioned that it's looking good. It absolutely does, they did a good job on hiding the fact that it's pressed garbage. Lots of products do that so yea... just the world we live in. The mechanics are rudimentary, no drawer rails, nothing, so while it does work it's nothing fancy. So in the end thanks a lot for the feedback, I will most likely do a review after X months for this item and I will for sure get into the usability and stuff like that and try to create a more balance video. In this one - again - I'm just pointing out the scam :)
@@ChrisViralVlogs but the “scam” you’re pointing out is for the table made of particleboard. Of course you should have gone with the solid birch- it’s a great table and the price is reasonable for the hardness and durability of the wood. If you care about that kind of stuff (which you obviously do since being disappointed with the “compressed crap”), why didn’t you do your research and go for the solid wood version instead of white??
should have bought the natural colour -- solid birch and same price as the white version which is 100% particleboard by comparison. YOU got ripped off due to not reading the materials. lesson learned.
I understand your thoughts but people like me with no understanding of wood, no wood workshop or wood cutting skills or machinery, no knowledge of how to build any piece of furniture and no desire or means to commission a custom made table, IKEA furniture including this table is always a good solution. With regards to the price, it's always up to debate but having said that I think that people mostly prefer to pay less and it's never cheap enough. And the assembly part? If you go to IKEA you have already planned when and what to do as soon as the boxes are on the floor of your house or apartment. Personally I prefer to make the best of it at any time. I start with a good cup of coffee or a cold coke depending on the time of the day and watch some assembly videos of the pieces I have to put together. Then I gather my hand tools clear some space and go to work. I take resting breaks when I need them and usually order some tasty take away. If I hit a wall like you with that drawer I get mad, swear like a dock grunt (no offense) and go for a walk to clear my head or call it a day depending on how late it is. I resume as soon as I am ready and hope that today things will go smoothly. And that's it.
I've never been to ikea. I have heard from others what you are saying; prob depends what you get. your table will serve it's purpose for now, it does look nice and fits nicely in that space.
I'm literally building this table by myself lol I'm using 2 "end tables" 9in x 9in tops that open up for storage. I'm looking for hinge assembly and support bar from the ikea table to have a hood idea of what I will do with mine.
You are ignoring the cost of design. And how many separate machines required to fabricate these parts (quite a few pieces have holes or lines cut over it) compared to a single piece of table top over four legs design. Done by human labour this would definitely take quite some time and can only be performed by those with quite a high degree of carpentry expertise. Might still be overpriced after considering this, but definitely not clearly overpriced for me.
I have to say for over 8 minutes of watch time this review really is not a good deal - on the outside it looks alright but right after you click play you realize it’s just pressed garbage. My roomba wouldn’t even fit under it. 0/10 easier to just make your own review out of real wood
Your video helped me out tremendously last night. I agree with you the table is a nightmare to build for the price. It was a massive workout especially the 32 screws :-)
Over a minute into the video and still not to the point. I hate wasting my time! Needless and unnecessary rambling which does not add to my life! Useless information.
Kleiner Tipp für dein Englisch (nett gemeint, nicht herablassend oder so): niemals „would“ in nem „if“-Satz. „If this table was a lot cheaper this would be a different story“ : )
How much did it cost you to do it yourself ? 200€ here in france and I find the height too low for what I wanna use it for (both sewing and cutting table) but at the same time sounds like a lot of tools to buy to make it
1:20 is that a sound effect or do you have a baby? xD .cheapest realwood (fichte) would have been like 25-35eur , so you could have bought even higher clss wood with 2-3x the price and still the price would be 1/2 of 180eur You got scammed :/

does that mean the white one is lighter in weight?

My latest IKEA norden table with solid birch storage box use a much simple assembly method and no need to use screw.
Now they’re both $350!!! Woohoo!!!
Use caster wheels on the bottom to lift it up for your vacuum
Is this your first time getting an Ikea an item???? Because alot ofmyour issues are very common respond to first time Ikea buyer lol
Birch is a very soft wood. Bear that in mind when you write on a piece of paper on a birch table - it will leave pen marks.
Hmmm. What wood would you suggest if someone were to replace the table tops?
If this is a rip-off, what do you recommend I buy instead?
You need to use a right tool and your brain
